Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

I'm just a little scared by the future. Watch Dogs in particular is already not 60fps in high / 1080p, I can't help but wonder what will the fps be in AC Unity and The Crew.
No card currently on the market is going to save you from shitty Ubisoft ports. Don't try to make a decision based around them it will only end in tears.

Just picked up a MSI GTX 980 to upgrade my GTX 680. Pretty excited, should get it in the post tomorrow. Then I might think about a second one in the new year and see what all the fuss is about at 120Hz.

1. Have a 560ti
2. Don't particularly plan on pushing past 1080p

It seems the 970 might be a good option, no ?

Another question : the only 970 I have access to and is available atm, is a Gainward one. Is it a good brand ?

A 970 can run WD at ultra/60fps but there will be drops here and here when CPU limitations kick in.

Just ordered my 980 and 16GB memory kit with delivery before 12pm tomorrow. I am excited!

Cost a whopping £590 in total. A bit more than I was hoping to spend today (was kind of hoping it would come in closer to £500) but at least I got a decent brand in EVGA. I normally only upgrade every few years at most but I'm rocking a 650 and its killing me. Roll on tomorrow :)

It seems that in the end, the wait payed off. I'm getting bored of running off my 4790k's igpu. The thing is that, as I want to in a couple of months get my hands on a LG 34 UM95P with a native res of 3440 x 1440, will the difference between going to a 970 or a 980 be too big? Or should I begin to make up my mind and join team SLI? And in that case, what should I do?

Thank you!

Yeah, I was limiting myself to high in order to be able to add some AA, but some of the benchs in the OP make a nice case of Ultra Watch Dogs with no AA. Not sure of the end visual result but yeah, it's a possibility.

@Dryk
Thanks, your way of expressing things just pushed me a little more toward the 970.

So nobody can gives feedback on the quality of Gainward ?

Im still debating what to get.. two 970's or just wait for another release.

Currently running a 780 @ 3440x1440 and i can get some slowdowns.

So does anyone have a breakdown of the different 970 cards? I paid a little more for the Gigabyte because I <3 them and I <3 that cooler, but what about the others?

I got the dreaded last post curse a page-or-two ago so reposting:

What are Palit like for cards? This has a higher clock speed and is a decent price: http://www.ebuyer.com/665231-palit-gtx-970-jetstream-4gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-i-mini-hdmi-three-mini-displayport-pci-e-ne5x970h14g2-2041j

**** just noticed about fans only working over 60 degrees. Not sure if I like that, is that a problem?

Get the Twin Frozr for £5 more:

More reputable brand and one of the best coolers on the market behind the Windforce.

When are these officially launching? I'm ready to get rid of this fucking 560ti

Huh, now ? Some brands are in stock where I live. Surprised as there were talk of a paper launch and as far as my limited English is concerned, I thought it meant really limited availability for some months.

Damn it Microcenter! Let me add the card to my cart so I can buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI: Microcenter has the EVGA GTX970 4GB SC ACX for $339.

So my step up program is still in effect for my GTX 780 Ti Classified. Is it worth it to step up to a vanilla GTX 980?

It's not a huge increase so it depends on how much you're going to spend. If it's 100 or less I'd do it. Another incentive is the lower power consumption = higher overclock ceiling.

You need SLI 970s to drive that thing. No ifs or buts, a single card isn't going to be enough.

welp, just purchased a gigabyte 970. can't wait.

still worried about my i5 2500k (it's OC'd) bottle necking it, but i keep hearing that i should be good to go.

I wonder if any other 970s will be released with the Titan-style reference cooler, beside Nvdia. From looking at some links EVGA's blower-style 970 for example uses a different cooler, and I remember the previous models had benefits using the Titan-style cooler in terms of noise and temps.

Hmm, I think I'll just stick with my Classified. Having a hard time also accepting in trading in that sexy beast that is the Classified 780 Ti for a vanilla 980. Was planning on upgrading anyway when the die shrinks hit in.

Does anyone know off hand if there are any articles comparing the non reference 980 cards yet? I'm trying to find one but not having much luck. Trying to decide which brand I should go with. Is it sensible to just pick the one with the highest factory overclock?
