Did a quick run in Heaven and the performance is outstanding compared to my single 680. Probably gonna try Watch Dogs now. One question to the SLI pros, is it ok that I installed the cards into slot 1 and 2? EVGA manual says to use the outer slots, but the bridge (and space in the case) didn't really allow that.



Caseking. Tried getting the Gigabyte model from Alternate, but the order status was in constant limbo.

Running Witcher 2 at max is still pretty difficult! Ubersampling takes an insane amount of performance alone.
 
Quick, someone cancel their Amazon order for the EVGA 970 so mine goes through! Ordered with two in stock but by the time I got through checkout it seems to have gone out of stock.
 
Sorry that I have to ask, but EVGA,MSI or Gigabyte for the GTX980? I'm not sure what the difference is. Coming from a 7970Ghz I wanted to switch teams :).
 
This thread is moving so fast... How do I tell the differences between the MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, Asus, etc.

I currently have an EVGA 780 6GB, but wouldn't mind selling that and grabbing a 970 now to set myself up for SLI around Xmas time.

My only concern is I have no idea if these different companies offer significantly different products, and whether or not it'd be worth it to wait for some of these out of stock versions to come back in stock... or grab http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487070 while I can.

Answers with haste are appreciated as I'm assuming it'll be out of stock soon!! Thanks :D

I have a 770 Gigabyte Windforce.

It's okay but not quiet. The fan profile is way too aggressive (tries to keep the card at 65°C under load -.-). But with a custom fan profile (in MSI Afterburner) it's quiet at 80°C. Still ... you can still hear it in a quiet system with a R4 Case (unlike some MSI Cards etc.).

I would prefer the ASUS Stryx and not care about 4-7% Overclocking out of the Box.

EDIT: I should add - my System is designed for low noise. The only idle noise comes from my HDD and the Windforce is only noticable under load.
But you can't hear it during normal gaming volumes .... so yeah maybe I am just very sensitive^^
 
After my GPU died, I'm currently rocking pride of AMD, Radeon 4850.

I will upgrade either around the time of Witcher 3 or around the time CK1 comes out from the beta.

That's a pretty modern system. If I were you I would just OC your 3750 and cruise for now. Sounds like you've been bitten by the upgrade bug. :P
 
So a question about the brands that have fans that cut off below certain temperatures. I assume this isn't a big deal(or they wouldn't put them out), but if I absolutely wasn't comfortable with it, will there be a way to keep the fans running at all times?

Well... I also do usually sell or give my parts to other people (friends/family) haha. But yeah... maybe. I really do want a new card, but I want one of the Broadwell CPUs even more.

I'd like to know this as well. I don't like this trend at all.
Ideally I want my chip to run as cool as possible.

Ah, gotcha. Well unless you're doing CPU-heavy work I doubt you'd notice a difference with Broadwell. In fact I think even an OC'd 2500k is more than enough CPU for any game ATM.

If you buy the cards with stock cooler they will be the same between manufacturers. If you buy with custom cooling solutions they will differ, but you'd have to wait for tests to see how.
 
Looks like they start at around £260. Only yesterday I finished building my new X99 system, so I'd be in the market for a 970 if I hadn't already bought a 750Ti a couple of months ago to use on an old LGA775 system... which subsequently died, hence the X99..

It does seem silly to have an X99 system and a 750 Ti SC, but I don't really need anything better at the moment.

The Gigabyte 970 is at 31dBA in Idle. Not that bad ;)

Also... I for some reason have an obsession with switching cases all the time. Or wanting new ones lol.
 
I have an Alienware X51 that has a tiny PSU and is really small and these power consumption numbers always confuse me.

I have successfully run an EVGA 670FTW in the rig for almost 2 years now (a bit underclocked just to be safe).

These new nVidia cards have advertised TDP below the 670, but all the charts and graphs show them jumping up to 300 watt usage at max.

Any advice? Please don't tell me to upgrade my case/PSU.. I already own 2 other full sized gaming rigs lol.. this is specifically my gaming HTPC in the living room.

I cancelled an iphone 6 plus order

and I'm also not going to order a 970, over a 670 2gb

I guess only playing dota 2 gives me no reason.

The only reason I've done so much reading over a 970 is because that shitty watch dogs game made me feel like my 670 was done for, when it really wasn't.

Agreed. I'm still rocking the i5-3570. Just OC that beast, i'm sitting at 4.3 on air right now. If you have to upgrade the do the GPU, but that CPU is still solid.

I was in 2 minds with either the EVGA or the MSI card, finally went with the MSI twin Frozr due to the cooling set up of twin frozr and the high boost clock (this was comparing against the stock EVGA GTX 970 not the SC) and availability. Hopefully should be here tomorrow :)
 
I have a ordered an MSI GTX 970. Run a 760 also by MSI and can vouch for the quietness under load. It rules. The new card has the Version 5 Twinfrozor cooler so shud be even better. O/c too is great. Heres hoping they produce a decent Far Cry 4 port i can muller with this card :D

I would personally choose either the MSI or an Asus.

Hmm, consensus seems to point toward MSI. One of my fears being that my case would run too hot with one of these new cards, that's a seducing factor.

The plan would be to buy a 970 (MSI ?), pray to avoid a nuclear meltdown in the case, and some months later work on improvements on the sound front or the amount of memory.

What say you Gaf, am I on the right track or is there something I should know before taking the plunge ? The MSI 970 is not fully stocked at my retailer but they seem to be working on it and I don't want the card tomorrow.
