Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

What SLI bridge would I need for 2 970s?

Could someone find one that would be suitable on overclockers.co.uk for me? Never done SLI before so I'm a bit hesitant to pick one.

Or would the cards come with one?

Cards should come with one. If not, your motherboard may have.

Damn mine still says packaging :(,come on newegg get it together. What's you estimated delivery date? I've ordered loads of thinks from newegg and never got a weekend delivery.

It doesn't show a delivery date but I'm a sucker and picked rush delivery with next day. I'll let you know when I know.

Edit: I like Ravijn everytime i respond to you my order status changes :)

Edit - I've had a Sunday delivery before. They use a company called Laser Ship in this area for last mile delivery. Though, they REALLY, REALLY suck.

I'm thinking of just splurging and buying a 980 GTX. The only problem is I'm using a fairly old CPU (Intel Core I5 760 running at 2.8GHz). Would this be a big bottleneck?

You don't get SLI bridges with gpus on nvidia side. Only with mobo.
Depends on the AIB actually. I've yet to buy one that didn't come with one, but I never buy reference cards.

Bottlenecks don't work like that.

Areas where your games currently chug during intense action or in online gameplay will remain chuggy in those parts. But the overall framerate will increase. There's exceptions to this, of course, but it's a good generalization to get an idea.

I was finally able to place my order. I feel stupid for not doing it this morning, instead I had to try find it on retail like the dumb-ass that I am.

edit: damn, the site is down again. That was close.

Anyone ordered from ebuyer with Saturday delivery before? Just found out I'm taking the family out for lunch tomorrow and don't want to miss the delivery guy.

Just checked tracking on my MSI GTX 970 "your delivery is estimated for Saturday 20th September"

This is like being a kid at Christmas all over again :) upgrading from a 670btw....excited lol

The GTX 970 looks good, but personally I'm going to wait for the inevitable 8 gig versions. As has been mentioned, there are already cases where you can use more than 4 gigs of video memory, and I'm looking for future proofing in that area. Considering that my GTX 670 is still above the recommended specs for a game like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, I'll be fine until then.

Yup. Apparently it still overclocks well, but other coolers are better at handling temps and have fans that turn off below a certain temperature treshold.
Unfortunate. I would have hit another brand if they met $329. Luckily I'm 1080p on a 60" so requirements for 1080p 2014 PC title overclocking? Low.

Hopefully stock behaves cause can't imagine a ton of OC need for most titles with the card performance. Wonder if a TIM replace does well for these...

The crazy thing is,i'm having it delivered to my job and i don't work on the weekends.

They've always used Yodel when I've gotten Next Day delivery. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same for Saturday delivery considering Yodel do it.

No idea when I'll get mine from Ebuyer, chose free next day delivery but it says Stock Problem. :(

MSI 970 359€

359€ = 460 $

Bush+Finger11873798711347654039.gif

$ = € because of VAT is common for hardware. 350€ seems to be the standard price for the MSI, ASUS and Gigabyte models in Germany/Austria from what I've seen. Still a good price for that performance.

What is the possibility of better cards coming out around the time of the Witcher 3? Im probably going to be getting one of those ROG Swift 1440p monitors or something similar with GSync.

Don't want to pull the trigger on one of these only for something to come out Feb/March. Or should I just wait to next fall. Im currently on a 680 SC.

28% VAT?

I am not saying its overpriced, i just hate to pay more due to different currency.

edit:

Average VAT in the EU : 21%

329 * 0.21 = 69,09 + 329 = 398,09$

398,09$ = 310,12€

It is 40€ more expensive than it should be.

Don't think the lack of something like VAT doesn't come with its own downsides.

I paid over $20,000 for my wife's back surgery and follow up visits :P

Not blaming VAT. Best wishes for you and you wife.

I would wait.

I picked up two evega 970s for $641 total. While a single 980 would be about $599 after taxes. So for about 140 dollars more than the 980 you can get SLI 970. Seems like a no brainer. I've tested far cry 3 and it holds 60fps solid with no AA in 4k.

Wow, the price for the GTX 970 seems GREAT.

Finally a good performing card that is actually well priced.

And here I thought the 8800GTS and 560 Ti were one offs.

I'm not waiting any longer. I'm jumping on 2 970s. I'll skip 20nm Maxwell and Pascal and move to Volta whenever that sees the light of day. I'm playing on a 560m and I NEED the upgrade.

R9-290 was pretty great once prices came down after the mining bubble burst. Was a time sensitive thing tho, so kind of doesn't count.

US prices are 329-349$ depending on model and I've seen 309€ for some of the cheaper models (Palit etc.), so it's not that huge of a gap (depending on the model), but you're right, we're still paying like 20€ "Europe bonus". Most likely because of higher distribution/logistics/... cost.

Can anyone give me insight as to whether now is finally the time to upgrade? I have 2 gtx580 right now. if I buy 1 970 will it be an upgrade??

It help a lot for temperatures, the blower is just way better for Sli than acx or windforce since you don't need hot air blowin directly from the gpu above to the gpu underneath it, the blower keep things cool for both cards. even Evga recommend it for sli over their own cooler.
Mh I see. Can you SLI two cards from different manufacturers using the same chip? I think I read this within the thread. Might just get a blower card as a second one then and put the MSI at the bottom(?).

Will be a little while until I will get a new MB for SLI, new PSU and the second card tho so who knows what will happen in the meantime.

So I currently have a 1300 watt PSU. If I upgrade to a Gigabyte Windforce 970 it would obviously be able to handle it, however lets say I want to SLI it down the road... will the 1300 watts be enough? Gigabytes website says 550 watts for just one of these cards, so does having two SLI'd along with all the other components sound like its pushing it?

I'm not really sure which brand offers the better cooler on the card. I hear the Windforce is the best, but it eats power like crazy... I'm pretty ignorant of the best warranties and such.

What do people recommend; any particular brand, configuration, warranty deal or anything else?

At this point I know I want a 970 and realistically just as long as its in that $3-400 price range I'm alright with paying a little more if its going to equate to a better cooler or warranty that could come in handy down the road.

The reasonable me is all like "Get the 970, it's at a great price and you only play TF2 and roguelikes anyway."
The Idiot me is saying "Shut up and get the 980 you cheap fuck".

A 1300 watt PSU, provided it's not like some piece of junk (and it ain't like there's junkers that go that high) is more than enough to SLI 970s. Hell it'll probably be enough to SLI whatever you upgrade to after that too. That 550w requirement on Giga's website is saying what you'll need for your entire system with the card. The card itself isn't going to use all 550w.
