Is the only downside to EVGA the noise? That's a complete non-factor to me because my HTPC is in the basement. Would really like to finally upgrade from 560ti to 970.
I don't quite understand. Why would you be able to buy those games earlier when buying the card now instead of later? Put the money aside and it won't matter, it's not like it'll disappear all by itself. Also the cards could become cheaper.

I'm still running a Core i5 2500 with a motherboard that only supports PCI-E 2.0. Will this bottleneck a GTX 970 at all yet, or am I still good?
I'm using a GTX 670 right now, and this looks like it'd be a pretty noticeable upgrade.
I can't really justify spending 500€ in videogames to my mother. :lol

Hehe, okay, reasonable explanation. You could preorder Witcher 3 right now to get that out of the way, maybe even find it cheaper via a trader but I'm not sure about the region-lock situation. When that will be possible with GTAV no one knows unfortunately.

when do the free game promotions usually kick in?
That is what I plan on doing. Wife "ok'd" a rebuild for next year, so I am going to wait it out for bit. I game on a 4k Set, so need something with a bit more Vram and a bit more power.

I find the continued paranoia of 2500K owners hilarious.I'm still running a Core i5 2500 with a motherboard that only supports PCI-E 2.0. Will this bottleneck a GTX 970 at all yet, or am I still good?

all the reference 980s are pretty the same?
I thought they were only releasing non-reference designs, or was it for the 970?

Shouldn't be a problem within a Corsair 540 Air?Depends on the cooling of your case. The Titan cooler is great because it is a blower style and dumps the heat outside. Really nice when you have multiple GPUs running in your system.
Would it be possible to run the 970 on a single 6-pin? The nvidia page says 145W so it should be theoretically possible I think?

I ordered it todayIt shouldn't be. I have that case. Did you replace the stock fans or add your own?
No one getting a 980? Is it pretty much pointless?

My take is that the people who would be interested in one are the ones who own a 780Ti already.

12.3 inches, or 31.2cm. Pretty longJust how long are the Gigabyte G1 970s? I was surprised to just see claims of it being over 12 inches long, didn't expect it to be longer than my Windforce 780. My Phantom 410 only has clearance for up to 12" cards... before removing 4 of my HDD slots, anyway.

It is not pointless, it just offers less value than a 970.

I'm getting one to replace my 580. At some point. No one getting a 980? Is it pretty much pointless?
I just upgraded to a 970 and I'm running an i7920@4ghz. I see no need to upgrade my cpu, for at least a few more years.

If you were considering a 780 Ti or a Titan, the 980 is great value by comparison. The 970 is better value, but since I had been considering running multiple 780tis, the 980 is really welcomed. No one getting a 980? Is it pretty much pointless?
