If I average 30 points each 10 minute game, it will take me close to 8 hours of crucible to get it

No you haven't maxed put points =) You have maxed out Marks
Vanguard "points". Or Reputation have no limit. Most bounties give 100 or 50. Patrol missions give 10 unless it is kill a specific enemy then it is 25. Max level strike give 25 I think. Which is bullshit. Way too low.
Vanguard Marks you can only get 100 each week. Reputation you can get as much as you like.
Yeah something like:
Option > Roster > Broadcast to online friends
"Anyone up for Weekly Strike?"

I just played it really safe, only had a void sniper as special and used a void heavy machine gun. Didn't take real long, though I made really sure to get that heavy ammo drops. Also helped my sticky nades were void too.

Team up with people you can talk to so you're not alone taking on 3 people at once.
If you've got a machine gun with void damage, makes things a lot easier especially if you have a general idea where heavy ammo spawns.

Thanks, I had planned on using my void machine gun and void fusion rifle, but since I'm a hunter I don't have any void specials or grenades.

First of all if you get Bastion gtfo
I used a void shotgun and machine gun. Most of my points came from machine gun but I did get a non-negligible amount with the shotgun. When you hear the announcement park at those heavy weapon spawns and play conservatively (don't rush headlong into bad situations). Try to get as much mileage out of each heavy weapon spawn.
Took me 3 or 4 hours to get the 500.

Each kill is 5 points. Each death is -2 points. So if you get 15 kills and 15 deaths or better, you're golden.
6 shots in the mag/drum and reloading takes forever. I'll gladly exchange it for any other 300 damage Hand Cannon that comes along, but with my luck that will take a while.
It's good for PvE when you level it enough. It just takes FOREVER.
Its worth the 1 mote of light it costs to disassemble it for other materials
Not going to lie, I really tried my best to like it. I LOVE hand cannons, and I do not like this gun at all. After getting all but the last column of upgrades I threw it in the vault and used my old blue hand cannon with an exotic sniper instead.
DoT is just too weak, magazine is too small and the reload time is awful.

Speaking of weapon and armor leveling that takes forever, all the Legendaries and Exotics that I have need Ascending Shards to level up. Those seem to be super rare.

It's not as hard as it sounds. I got it in less than 2 hours with a shotgun and machine gun.
Tips:
Shotgun rushing is your best bet.
Learn how to glide and shoot accurately.
Enable all your abilities that gives your benefits in close encounters.
Choose a subclass that has potential void damage with super, melee or grenades.
Play game modes with smaller maps.
Skip Control and Skirmish since players travel in groups in those game mode.

It might even be third, but its a well known gun. My Galahad is better than the Shingen just because I got lucky mods on it.

is there a better auto rifle than doctor nope? the firerate, the clip size, the damage...godlike. i got some legendary and exotic weapons, but nothing comes close (imo).
i also found a level 20 version of the shingen-e, which has an even better firerate/stability than the "standard" version.

I remembered a Bungie interview where they talked about why you couldn't trade with friends or other Guardians in general.
If I recall correctly they said they wanted players to feel like they have achieved something when they got the loot. Like getting an exotic weapon from a certain Strike on a high difficulty (even as a drop with a low drop rate). Getting a weapon like that from someone else for free would destroy that sense of achievement.
However, that's not how loot actually works in the game. I was looking forward to that system but totally forgot about it until now.
I'd much rather "farm" a certain Strike for a specific drop than mindlessly slaughter Hive minions. I remember feeling great when I finally got the Ifrit's weapon in FFXIV after killing him countless times.
The PS exclusive gear drops work like that in the exclusive strike and I think that's a great way to distribute specific loot. It's a shame they didn't do that for the rest of the gear or at least some of it.
