That's good. What's especially ridiculous about offering exclusive Mystic Artes pre-order is the fact that sales of Tales games are already insanely frontloaded as is. One would think they'd want to work on making that less lopsided, not exacerbating it even further.
What are you talking about? Xillia 2 had a fair amount of costumes. Ludger has about 4-6 costumes himself.
Ludger got a few costumes but everything else was a recolor, some of which pulled from the last game. In Xillia 1 Jude and Millia each got one costume that wasn't a recolor and that's it. They're clearly moving away from free costumes and I find it more likely that Zestiria will follow the Xillia 1 approach given that its a new game and not reusing assets.
I guess they spent their "new things" budget on new monster models.

I love some of them for the optional battle/victory music that they play
E.g Fury Sparks/Graces F theme with Yuri and Asbel's outfits in ToX2.

I'm relatively ashamed to admit that I got DLC costumes in Tales of Xillia because I couldn't stand how awful some of the costume designs were. I couldn't take Milla seriously in her tube top and miniskirt, so I used the Stahn armor, and Jude and Leia just looked dumb, so I bought the Leon and Farah costumes.
"within a year of the Japanese release" is probably not super close, but I can see where you're coming from I guess.

I'm partial to the tales series but mang this is not a pretty game. I wish they could've just gone with vesperia style cel-shaded graphics.

Here's hoping that the story is more "Team Symphonia" than "Team Destiny." Graces was a generic snooze fest.

I also wonder how likely we're getting dual audio since Bamco did say they'll try for that in future Tales games.
And if I want to import, I feel like I want the LaLa Market LE just for the figures >_>

I'm really worried the game won't sell that much in the west because of being released on the PS3 too far in the new generation cycle....
Maybe they'll announce a "director's cut" PS4 edition for Japan later on next year that the west will get instead of the PS3 version.

I think plenty of people are holding onto their PS3s either because they haven't moved up to PS4 or because they know about games like this.

They already announced the PS3 version for localization and they just said like a week ago that the game would come over within 6 months of the JP release.

Zaveid is still an ambiguous character and Rose was just revealed as another human, as well as being a Doushi apparently. I can see them not showcasing Zaveid at all even if he joins, but Rose might be showcased later. They didn't shy away from saying she has daggers and is part of the group. Also she has an Eva costume.
I love/hate them for this. It's nice when the battle music fits, but when it doesn't...ugh.
Just give us a Radiant Mythology like system in the main games, and let us use whatever battle music we want.
Though knowing Namco Bandai that means we'd get DLC music packs, lol.

The latest Japanese magazine spread of this game has a new piece of group artwork (different from the cover shot), and Zaveid is included with all the other playable characters. (And Rosé, but she's a lock too.)
