Popeyes is offering new Beer Can Chicken, featuring a white meat chicken breast that's partially cut into tenders and marinated in a blend of "traditional beer can chicken seasonings" including butter, garlic, lemon zest, rosemary, and cayenne before being battered, breaded, and deep-fried.

The idea behind beer can chicken is to cook a chicken upright on a partially filled can of beer so that as it cooks, the beer evaporates and infuses the chicken with its flavor. Popeyes' version appears to be more beer can-inspired and minus the beer (it also looks very similar in appearance to their previously-offered Rip'N Chicken).

Regardless, you can get Popeyes' Beer Can chicken with Cajun fries, a biscuit and new Creamy Cayenne Dipping Sauce for $3.99 at participating locations for a limited time.

Popeyes' limited-time items tend to stick around for about a month so look for this to be available through mid-to-late October.

So it's a variation of their rip'n chicken? I'm on board, but calling it beer can chicken is kind of bullshit.

I feel like they're missing a key ingredient in here somewhere...

Beer can chicken is a joke anyway. Most grills don't get hot enough to actually evaporate the beer, so other than keeping the bird upright, the beer can doesn't really do anything. You'd get the same effect with an empty can as a full one.

Came here to say this. Just drink the beer when you eat (or while you make) the chicken. There are better ways of brining etc to make it taste good. I had a really good recipe to smoke a chicken brining overnight and then stuff it with diced lemons, onions, apples, salt, pepper, and olive oil. That was the best chicken I've ever had.

It's getting past smoking season in Maryland, but I may break out the ole rotisserie and give that a try!

Here's the recipe in case you or anyone else is interested. We had a party with about 20 people over, had a couple of these and a brisket. The brisket was great and everyone loved it, but honestly, that chicken was ridiculous. I was probably more a fan of it, honestly.

Popeyes glamour shots always make me want to eat all of the chicken strips. They look so crunch and delicious.

So this is like pumpkin spiced anything, which suggests that there may be pumpkin when in fact, no, there's only the spices you would use with pumpkin tarts or pie or whatever.

Lame.
