Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

A OC'ed 980 will be about 15% faster than stock 980 performance. If you can get a 970 OC'ed to almost stock 980 performance is where the value is.

So the question is, is that 980 worth the extra $200 to you for 15% performance. :)
There's a ton of assumptions in there which someone can't count on.
Keep in mind all of the other issues with SLI as well. If you're very averse to tinkering to get things working, or sensitive to poor frame dilvery (stutter), avoid SLI and get the best single GPU you can.

TechPowerUp doesn't include frame time data for the review, which obfuscates this sort of information.

I am wondering whether anyone else can confirm that DSR doesn't work through HDMI. Well, it only works with DVI for me. Tried a couple different TVs and A/V receivers and it's the same story unfortunately.

Thanks!

I have never seen this stuttering from SLI. Even if there are uneven gaps between frames, a steady 30fps running game will look worse than an slight uneven gap between frames of a game hitting 60fps.

With my 5970 I needed a powered (not the passive one) mini-displayport to dvi adapter to be able to run with 3 screens.
With the 980 will I need a powered displayport to hdmi/dvi adapter to hook up a third monitor since all of my monitors have vga, hdmi, dvi?

I was reading a thread on another site where some posters were saying DSR wasn't working for them, while others said it was. People were trying to figure out if it was related to SLI or not, but maybe the cable is the culprit. Interesting!

I got a window on my case and even I don't give a crap about a backplate. I don't sit around looking at my PC, I use it. :P

Yes, pretty interesting and extremely disappointing if that's the nature of the technology. I have never been able to configure traditional driver downsampling with any of my HDMI devices (TVs, A/V receivers, projectors), so when I heard about DSR I thought Nvidia had solved that problem. However, apparently they haven't yet. :P

Gotta say GeDoSaTo is king, and compatible with virtually everything. :-)

Can't seem to find a way to disable the LEDs in the Gigabyte card even though that I'd seen it mentioned in one of the reviews. A bit annoying.

So, the two cards are now available in Pakistan (where I'm from), and they're about $200 more expensive than the usual dollar rates. I HATE these premiums that we have to pay on this shit!

Lovin my EVGA 970 so far. Not sure the reviews saying it's noisy. PC is right next to me and I don't hear anything shrugs

I'm in the same boat as you. My EVGA 970's are performing great. I tried both cards solo and they are both quiet. I'm happy with my purchase. I do feel bad for others who are experiencing problems with theirs.

To test mine further, I turned my PC on at 5am because it was really quiet and I couldn't hear them at all.

09/23/2014 10:00 P.M. A late UPS trailer arrival has delayed delivery. We're adjusting plans to deliver your package as quickly as possible.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

It's not like my wife arranged to take time off work to be home to sign for this tomorrow.

Oh wait. Fuck.

When I lived there, I pretty much never gamed on PC. The premiums, the terrible card quality (vendors will keep "better" cards for themselves), shoddy sales practices, and the most dishonest used market I've ever seen ("LOL I DON'T OVERCLOCK"). Glad to be back in the states.

Has nVidia given any indication when their stacked RAM tech will become a reality?

Anyone with an MSI N670 Power Edition, who's dumping it and upgrading to a 970 or 980...?

If so, I'm interested in purchasing you old N670 PE.
PM me

I hate when that happens :(

I thought I read that as Placenta... lol

Have to read more carefully.

Sent you a PM, turns out this is the exact card I plan to upgrade from. Man, I am really happy with how PC gaming has gone recently, I have been able to play pretty much every game at higher than console settings on my GTX 670 until now, and I can buy what isn't even the top of the line card and still get a performance boost. That hasn't happened in a long time.

I'm getting idle temps from 36c-40c on my G1 970. Same for the CPU. I think I need to move my tower, its not getting proper ventilation.

My EVGA order did not require that, but I had to check a box when I placed it that released it from requiring a signature. If you have my UPS you can pre-sign online, which gives them permission to leave it. Just so you know!

Edit: wrong quoted post, hope the original poster gets the card alright

Gah.

Put in new GTX 980 into my Alienware Aurora. 5 beeps. Swapping in my old 670 lets me get further, but can't get into Windows. :(

It's not a power thing. I was doing SLI670 in here previously. Sigh.

that sucks :(

what PSU do you have? are you using any connectors?
have you tried reseating the power? Try a different PCI-E slot

Tried the FedEx alternative for my 970 order so I wouldn't have to be home at the time of delivery just in case, and they refused to verify my account status.

Tried both PCI-E slots. No luck.

PSU is whatever came with the Alienware, but I was SLI'ing 670s power shouldn't be an issue.
