Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

Tried both PCI-E slots. No luck.

PSU is whatever came with the Alienware, but I was SLI'ing 670s power shouldn't be an issue.

yeah it shoudn't but I've seen some wonky stuff when it comes to vendor PSUs
it could just be a bad GPU :(

What one did you get?

Have you tried without any GPU in? Try getting to the desktop with no GPU in, and removing the Nvidia drivers, then trying the 980.

well doing that won't help the post beeps issue.
If he can boot past post and into windows with his 670's
It's most likely his GPU or the PSU but since his PSU handles the 670 alright, it could just be the card.

I am curious on his PSU though

Hrmph.

EVGA 980.

Resting Windows now. Whee.

good luck

These new cards look great. I'll hold off on the upgrade for a little longer as my 770 is competent at the moment.

If my memory serves me correctly the Ti versions are usually released ~6mths later.

If that holds true, 980Ti SLI around Witcher 3 release.

Here's hoping!

Is there any hope for my EVGA 970 ACX 1.0? Everyone keeps talking smack and Im wondering if i should send it back when it comes tomorrow for a blower or a different brand.

I bought straight from EVGA

Okay, so...

Of the brands available for the 980, which should I be trying to pick up?

I got a Gigabyte 780, but it shit the bed on me, and I'm hesitant to get another Gigabyte product because of that.

However, maybe I just got a bad card.

Any thoughts?

I'm particular to EVGA, but Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus are fine as well.

MSI, Gigabyte, Zotac Omega edition, Asus and Galax.

It's in! cable management be damn lol.

So far I can't notice anymore noise from the EVGA compared to my old 6950. My case has some pretty good sound isolation so noise was never a problem for me anyway.

I think I got the same card as you from Newgg. I'm not gonna worry about it unless something goes wrong.

Oh my... I'd tidy those cables up as that might seriously mess with air flow to the card...

How does it even get this tangled? Fix it!

The way the case set up it's really hard to hide wires, esp since I have 2 SSDs, 2 HDD, 2 optical drives and a tons of fan. It was a little nicer before but every time I need to change out something I had to redo it so I stopped bother.

Changing a GPU is easier than I remember, LOL. Went from Asus 660 Ti to a MSI 970 Game, no driver change, just out and in with the new card, boot and play. Expected blue screens all over the place without preparing.

Not wise to do this half-asleep after waking up though, forgot there was a clamp holding the old card in place, almost pulled the whole motherboard out, heh.

Installed the 970, despite the few problems I had getting it all up and running. So far I've played Crysis 3, Batman:AO, P:Cars, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall and Fable: Anniversary. Everything bar DR3 ran flawlessly. This card is also dead silent. Running Uniengine Valley 1.0 benchmark and the card didn't go above 69c. Also, what's a good score for a Asus 970 (stock clock) w/ a 3570K @ 4.4Ghz?

I did run in to a problem when I first booted up with the card that it stayed on my mobo splash screen for a minute or two (as opposed to the 3-4 seconds it normally takes with my SSD) and I couldn't go into my BIOS as it wouldn't respond to any button presses. I restarted the PC as I had to d/l new drivers but the problem was still there. If it doesn't go away, what could be the problem?

Has nVidia given any indication when their stacked RAM tech will become a reality?

Pascal, same goes for UVM which was supposed to be part of Maxwell.
I guess we can't have it all, as it stands it's enough to ridicule consoles in multiplatform games.

Ah I'm thinking I might buy a 970 but I don't know which one to get and from where. I'm in Aus so it might be cheaper from Amazon? I'm leaning towards to gigabyte and that's $520 AUD, what would the Amazon price be in Aussie dollars?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but which is the best 970 for noise, heat and performance? Whisper-quiet is important to me, if poss.

I'm currently rocking a 650W PSU for my computer. It has a GTX 760 and it runs relatively smooth, do I have to look for a power upgrade if I decide to jump to one of these new cards?

So the gigabyte 970 on Amazon comes to about $430 AUD compared to $530 here, I'm wondering if that extra hundred is worth spending in terms of warranty and when I'll recieve it. It's out of stock on Amazon (as are all the cards), how long do they usually take to get more.

As another poster asked, has there been a 970 face off? Which comes out on top?

Got my MSI GTX 970 yesterday, but while excitingly preparing my PC for new GPU awesomeness I managed to brick my MSI motherboard by having a BIOS flash go wrong (with the official software nonetheless). Now I sit her with this awesome card I can't do shit with. Sigh.

Managed to RMA the mobo though and ordered a replacement that should arrive later today (will probably sell the repaired one whenever it returns). It's the same chipset, so hopefully I am able to just boot up Windows without hassle and experience this beast before the end of the day.

I'm gonna hold of till at least February around W3 release to pick up a 970. It looks fantastic and I'd imagine that the Ti version will come then as well. Hugs Ol' Bessy, the greatest 780 a fella coulda asked fir'. She still has some miles left yet.

Adult signature required.

Wat

Orders over a certain amount from EVGA require it.

http://www.evga.com/storeterms.asp

All orders placed for over $900 (USD) will require an adult signature verification upon delivery. The signature will be automatically added to the shipping costs of the item.

Still no new estimated delivery time frame. UPS My Choice says I can't change the delivery (ie, have it dropped off at a store) and it gives me no option to print a form to leave a signature (which I have done in the past). My package is in PA (I'm in MA). This is pretty frustrating.

It wouldn't have been an issue if UPS hadn't screwed up.

Probably going to get the Gigabyte 970 for my new PC.

Is two of them in SLI a worthy investment for 1080p? Or is it just unnecessary for that resolution.

Take EVERYTHING out, get some cable strings, grab a bandanna to wrap around your head and prepare yourself to start sorting out that mess. Major disservice to your card and PC.

Please help me guys!

I'm wanting to build a PC, bear in mind it will be in april, and I'm torn between 780 Ti or 980... which should I get?

Why are you torn between those two cards after how everyone here in this thread is blowing up over the 970 and 980? I want to know your thinking.

If that is Antec Twelvehundred, then the user is screwed because the cables aren't long enough for the case which leads into a mess.

Anyone managed to push the MSI 970 into some nice OC territory? I did some tests yesterday, but got some faulty frames with it running at 1480MHz. I'd love to see your Afterburner settings.

There is no reason to buy a 780Ti IMO, pretty much at all. Even now I would advise against it in the face of a 970.

Also, mid april is pretty far away, tell you what to buy is pretty hard. Who knows what cards will be out by then or what the prices will be.

Well I was always looking at the 780Ti as it seemed the best GPU on market, and the 970 has less grunt than it by the looks of benches. The 980 seems to be on par with the 780Ti for gaming, and I'm just wondering which one would be best.

The 980 seems to be slighlty less powerful (i think) than the Ti, but the power conusumption makes me think thats the way to go.
