Level 29 who's completed the Raid multiple times looking to do the Raid within the next hour. Add me on PSN if you're interested.

Yooooo someone tell me why I did the Devil's Lair strike and killing the Walker didn't count for my bounty. Either the game wants you to land the killing blow (which is lame as fuck) or you have to kill the event walker in patrol (also lame as fuck).

And damn is the crucible shit right now. Been getting loads of crummy players that cannot play the objective nor go positive.

I was with you last week, if we can get a team like that together again, count me in haha. I'm still 27, though. I've maxed my exotic but I really don't want to spend shards on non-raid gear, which I got none of last week x.x

Well, I think it does extra damage. When I shoot a Fallen Vandal in the chest, I see 2 damage number pop up (125 and 125, for example). If I shoot score a headshot, I get (325 and 125). So, I think the second 125 is extra damage, but you're saying it's the original damage just split up? I'll have to unequip Explosive Rounds and test this. I've been using it ever since I unlocked it (so, for like 12 days now), so I don't know what vanilla damage is.

Check your critical hits with and without. If you're aiming for the head consistently you're losing out.

Yeah you have to land the killing blow. There's a Devil Walker in that spot in patrol though, so it's not that bad. I agree about dumb design, BTW, but killing him in patrol should take less time than the strike anyways (what without having to clear the horde mode at the lazors) so it's not the end of the world.

My Handcannon is freaking ridiculous.
And The Cryptarch blessed me with his power.

Well well.

After dozens of useless legendary drops I actually got a weapon I can use.

The Comedian Shotgun.

But judging the amount of time it will take forever to actually get some great gear.

How in the world do you guys handle it?
Currently I'm halfway to 28 rocking:

-A legendary primary weapon and various level 20 rares
-various level 20 rare secondary weapons
-an exotic heavy weapon
-Full legendary armor

zero- not just a few, not just one- zero of the above items were drops or engram loot rolls. In fact, I've only opened a single legendary engram (did so by accident- i'm stockpiling them to open all at once). It became a legendary helm. At the time I acquired it, I already had a legendary helm upgraded twice, and didn't like the look of the new one. So I immediately dismantled it into ascendant shards.

reject the cryptarch, guardian. his ways yield only despair. search your feelings, you know it to be true

...it is!? I actually got something good!? 0_0
It has an unfortunately low magazine- but there may be an upgrade to improve it, not sure. everything else about it is quite good. hand cannons are fantastic. look at your options for anything that will reduce reload time (increase reload speed) to get the most from it. try it out and aim for the head/weak point.

I did and it counted. 2 more to go.

Yup, same here. Did one in the wild and two more during a public event.

The Cryptarch got me a shader I've wanted since the beginning... But the Exotic Helmet I'm rocking doesn't fit with the color scheme. Then the bastard turned a Legendary Engram into a green. :(

OMFG it finally happened! Raiding with team UKGaf and got the Suros Regime from the second chest!!! Beyond happy right now, aww yisss. Raiding with USGaf later on is gonna be so much easier :D

Thanks guys. Having to deal the kill shot on the Walker is kinda terrible design but I guess if you go at it on your own it isn't too bad.

Hopefully nobody is wailing on it already, when I get there. That's a pretty significant kill to steal...hehehe

Playing rumble for pistol headshot kills and a pvp bounty, because I use handcannons anyway i'm cutting everyone apart while they try to aim at my head, I love it.

Shows how many people only use auto rifles and can't kill using precision weapons.

load up on rockets.

Jesus, this thread moves fast. If anyone sees this and wants to help me out tonight around 7pm EST, that would be GREAT. I've been playing a long time and not ONE single legendary engram drop. NOT ONE. It's really getting to me. I have some decent blues but they are getting real old now and occasionally I will find a better blue which gives me more light but that's it. If anyone wants to help me out and get some purples..I'm on ps4 btw.

Sooo jealous. I ended up getting a Legendary full-auto shotgun from what we've done of the raid so far so that's still awesome, but I still don't have any exotic weapons. All we have left is the final boss so I'm hoping I at least get some cool raid gear once we finish later tonight.

He gave me Zombie Apocalypse out of a blue. For that, I sort of hate him less for ruining 20 legendaries and giving me a wrong exotic from Xur's engram.

For those who missed out on my last post, give it a quick read, as some of these are expanded concepts from the more basic ones. Note: of the things I don't mention again here: please do buy ammo synthesis and use glimmer consumables! They rule!

Advanced Speeder Technique
The speeder controls in Destiny are a blast: boosting, banking, jumping chasms- it feels great! But here are a couple tips to improve your racing technique:
  • Most advanced (non-default) speeders seem to have an "e-brake" of sorts on R2. It seems extremely sensitive to me, but this could vary from bike to bike.
  • The initial speed burst from L2 is faster than the sustained boost speed, and always propels your speeder forward in the direction it was facing at the moment when you hit it. Don't keep your finger jammed down on it the whole time- use the boost when the speeder is angled sharply up- even if just by a small rock or uneven terrain- to shoot into the sky for big hangtime!
Modify or Die

or
20px-Arc_Damage_icon.png
or
20px-Void_Damage_icon.png
Destiny employs various modifiers (like Halo "Skulls") to change up the combat and flow of its missions.

Juggler (can't find the symbol for this): No ammo drops for your equipped weapon
Anger Issues: Minions of the Darkness display heightened aggression.
Angry: Minions of the Darkness won’t flinch, even after massive damage.
Arc Burn: Arc damage from any source is greatly increased.
Solar Burn: Solar damage from any source is greatly increased.
Void Burn: Void damage from any source is greatly increased.
Lightswitch: Minions of the Darkness deal much more melee damage.
Nightfall: You will face a relentless army that has never known defeat. If all players die, you will be returned to orbit.
Heroic: Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
Epic: Heavily shielded and highly aggressive enemies appear in great numbers.

Learn the symbols! The most important ones to look out for are Epic and the elemtental burn. Angry is typically a minor annoyance, but can dramatically increase some encounter difficulty (Phalanxes with no stagger, urrrgh!). Juggler is simple- just switch weapons frequently. Epic makes all content just universally tougher. Burning down shields quickly with the appropriate element (or Burn element) is a necessity. With the Burn, remember which symbol is which damage type, and try to have some heavy hitting weapons of each on you at all times. Remember, it's both incoming and outgoing damage. If it's a Void Burn, Acolyte shots will sting like hell- but your void machine gun will eat them all alive. On Lightswitch, even melee from most normal mobs will OHKO- you need to avoid your instincts to finish anything off by melee. And of course, Nightfall- you wipe once, you get punted to orbit. You can pull out your Ghost at any time (Nav Menu) to see any active modifiers.

Spend Your Marks Like They're Going Out of Style
By now, you probably know there's a 100 mark per week limit apiece for Vanguard and Crucible Marks, symbolized by the circles filling in above. However, be warned that there also a 200 max mark cap for each as well. This is quite a low ceiling, so you need to be constantly spending your marks. Here are the major purchases at the Vendors and their required Rank:
  • Helm (120 marks, Rank 2)
  • Chest/Legs/Gauntlets (65 marks each, Rank 2)
  • Weapon (150 marks, Rank 3)
If there is something you are saving up to buy, purchase it as soon as you have the marks for it!

If not, purchase a chest/leg/gloves piece and dismantle it for ascendant shards, which you'll use to upgrade the armor you do want. 150 marks is the most you should ever have on you at one time.

Bear the Load
Destiny has a lot of loading screens. A LOT of loading screens. Loading in the morning, loading in the evening, loading at supper time. This sucks.

The silver lining is that, during just about every kind of load screen in the game, you can access your options menu which includes your gear screen and inventory. Rather than hanging out in orbit: as soon as you or your fireteam finish a mission, get into the habit of immediately selecting your next destination and launching, then fiddle with your gear, play with shaders, perform upgrades to weapons/abilities, dismantle unneeded pickups, inspect your teammates, check if you need to replenish any of your synthesis stacks, consider what pieces or armor upgrades you need to aim for next, and so on.

Elect a fireteam leader who is good at doing this reliably (immediately launching rather than idling in orbit). The load/travel time is also a great opportunity during co-op for members to get drinks, take a bathroom break,
read GAF,
et cetera.

If you get into kind of a rhythm doing this, you can actually play with relatively little downtime despite the frequent loads.

Yup. Had a couple of games where everyone was going for the bounty. Game was a lot more enjoyable
because I was winning

But it will still do the same damage as a non explosive headshot right?

I don't think so. You're taking a portion of the weapon's damage and converting it to splash damage. So you're doing less damage concentrated on a headshot, for example, and the rest of the damage is dispersed outwards.

Was going for a queens bounty 20 head shots with the hand cannon when I was randomly rewarded with The Last Word exotic hand cannon for my dead last place finish.

Awesome gun but I see why people go AFK in crucible. I got a legendary emblem next map.

Damn. How the hell did you get so much ascended energy?

I have 36 Ascendant Energies waiting to be poured into a Suros Regime once I find one, and with leftovers.

I seem to get Energy at a 2:1 ratio to Shards, hopefully it pays off for me in the end and I can invest them soon.

Is there any point in doing queen's missions or bounties if I already have full purple gear?

Also, it's really aggravating when the Nightfall rewards legendaries. I would much rather have strange coins or exotics.

Hawkian, great guide again!

I'll be posting the first part of my 'review" for Destiny pretty soon. Hope you guys enjoy.
These posts of yours are great Hawk, thanks for taking the time.
Thanks :D Definitely looking forward to your thoughts Dax.

I had rumble matches like this last night. Felt like everyone else was in slow motion. Just so people could try for some bounties while I picked them apart. Ahahaha. As such, the Queen has my allegiance <3

So I got lucky enough to grab an Atheon's Epilogue from the raid last night.

Everyone tells me that it's the 'best AR in the game' - am I missing something? I much prefer the look (not just cosmetically, I mean stat spread etc.) of Suros Regime.

Maybe I'll be more sold on it once I get the stability upgrade, but right now the only thing amazing about it seems to be the void damage.
