There was a time when caves were much more powerful.

"I could tell you about the great battles once waged at the edge of the cave, i could tell you about the great loot that dropped..."

So anyone who has been hoarding purple engrams is in for a treat soon, they will deffo give purple/yellow loot at some point soon? Won't be spending any I earn until I know for sure.

When you go into a no respawn zone, and you die and get that countdown screen that everyone else has died and you respawn. If it was before a boss you would have to fight your way through the mobs again. This second, third, fourth....x time those mobs will not drop (or lower) the chance of dropping loots.

shouldn't really matter due to getting shit drops anyway

Do you know why people farmed the cave? You have to fix the cause of it, and not fix the solution.

The reason people farmed the cave was for multiple reasons-
Best way to get loot in a timely matter.
Because of that, it offset the majority of issues with the legendary engram not being so...legendary.

The latter caused the former.(Or should I say...the farmer). If Bungies loot system was fair, then people would've never farmed the cave as an easy way to get guaranteed loot.
People would still farm the cave because it's a glitch and easier then intended. It's dissapointing how everyone complains that they don't have a full maxed out character 2 after the game came out. Play the game and have fun and you will get gear. I enjoy PvP so from just doing bounties and queen missions I'm like 1 piece away from full legendary set. Not that hard.

Wow, gutted by the updates/patch. I really hope Bungie know what they're doing, just when I was really starting to enjoy myself.

All the update mentions is 'soon'

Bungie needs to fix Strike rewards for sure. The sole reason I don't play them much is because of time/reward. I get More marks for doing a short and easy PE. And I think those assassination patrols give the same amount of Rep (25).

Shhhhhh, now they are going to nerf Public Events! You get half the chance of an Ascendant after 3 Gold Tiers achieved on the first Monday of every other month between 4am - 6am in a randomized time zone.

So basically, Bungie is fixing exploits that gamers found and made use of, while doing nothing to address the underlying issues that made those exploits so popular to begin with.

I'm pretty sure 99.99% of gamers would prefer not to stand in one spot and shoot into a cave over and over... the sad fact is, the loot drop rate and quality is so busted in Destiny, that this incredibly boring option was still more attractive than actually playing the game 'as intended'.

Is completing a semi-difficult bounty, and doing a high level strike mission really not enough "work" to have earned a couple of ascendant shards if you get a dupe? God damnit. This whole Queen thing baffles me.

Even if I was only level 20 needing legendaries, I wouldn't have anything to do with the bounties after the first two. I don't get it.

Seems pretty clear Bungie don't really have much of a clue on how to problem solve some of the issues that have come up, patching in/out things without really thinking too much about the effects it has, the Queen's missions were bad enough but now they've become fairly pointless given dismantling items gives you absolutely nothing. There's no denying some of the things were just screaming to be patched out but it's like they've just gone with a quick fix of "that'll do".

You all seem to be missing the fact that it only effects drops, not end of mission rewards.

This encourages players to play smarter, and adds and actual death penalty. No death penalty makes things incredibly uninteresting. at that point it stops being a game with winners and losers, and it becomes an activity.

end of mission rewards aren't even that great though

if people were getting drops from boss and major kills instead of trash mobs then there wouldn't be a gathering around caves in the first place

all of this is just lack of foresight or give a fuck

Honestly?
I loved doing the cave grind
It seems weird, but it was fun

I like the idea of them actually not anticipating that purple engrams rarely actually being purple loot would be universally derided as fucking shit game design, lol.

Hawkian bro, we get it - you don't want to get upset about the game. But you've probably put 40+ hours in like many of us. We can get upset and whine about it. It's ranting for a reason...Won't CHANGE anything, but it's part of the cycle.

Most of us agree that there are some good changes. But you can't get all butt-hurt that we're upset about some of the changes. It's gonna happen. I can't figure out why you of all people would take it so personally.

They have to leave themselves an out because they probably didn't anticipate the level of backlash has received for its broken parts. All this sudden rebalancing is going to take a lot of time. Not an excuse for releasing the game in this way, though. It's clear they didn't think this shit through.

Nope, now you get to do a hard mission for no reward. Guess they forgot the running theme of the game while making this event, silly them.

And it's not even the first 2, it's whenever the RNG shows mercy. I had to do the queen missions 9 times to get a helmet, the rest were all duplicate coats. If I didn't get shards for breaking them before that would have been SO frustrating. So luckily they made it so for players who need it. Cool event, guys.

Having run through it twice.

I got a the same shader twice, boots with a lower light level than my current legendary pair that I bought, ascendant energy x 2, ascendant shards x 2, and a warlock bond. Information is spot on.

The boots are only lower light level because you haven't maxed them out.

Ok, fine. You're playing a tough strike, die a couple of times and have a lower chance of getting anything from any of the enemies that you kill. It's still fucked up.

Oh no, an actual penalty to being shit at the game!

fucking hell

First off, I sympathize with everyone who's getting pissed about the shard drops from the Queen's Wrath. I don't agree that you should be getting pissed about it, because basically nothing having to do with a videogame is worth that, but no doubt that was a sweet ass ascendant shard farm and it blows chunks that it's gone.

but oh well. this kind of reaction to anything a developer does, regardless of who it is, what it is, or what game it's for, isn't particularly cute anymore. on the whole, I am thrilled by the contents of these patch notes. almost every single word matches up with my understanding of the game's intended vision. here are my highlights

All of this is very good for the game.

Fucking hell, again.

There are a lot of people out there reading this right now who know that I am talking especially to them when I say the following: Destiny obviously has a long and bright future ahead of it. Keep playing for fun. Take breaks when you feel like it. These are the earliest days of a game we'll be playing for a very long time, probably years. These things will be true regardless of how much hysterical outrage surrounds it.

For now, I am bailing the fuck out of here. This is a mess. I'm an active part of this community not because I love Bungie oh so much and think they can do no wrong and think Destiny is perfect and get butthurt when people criticize my favoritest thing, but simply because I like being a part of a community for a game like this. I like having people to discuss things with when we can't be playing, exchange tips and strategies and information we all may have missed.

I want my presence on neogaf to help people get the most out of this game and purely from a functional perspective that's impossible right now. I'll resume posting when the requisite of "get over it" has happened and things have calmed down. If you notice someone asking for help that can't be completely answered by my guides please have them PM me or send me a message on PSN (hawkian there too).

Hawk, expect a PSN friend request from me headed your way soon. I'm with you.

As I mentioned above, Dax, this makes them look incompetent / like shit. If someone is making me a steak and overcooks / messes it up, I don't give them credit for admitting it, I look upon them in a disapproving light and trust them less for steak #2.

So they get shit for saying nothing and get shit for admitting they fucked up a few things and are fixing it.

Nice paradigm you got there.

Honestly, if Bungie didn't want players dismantling the queens Wrath rewards, they should have made more variety. So far I have gotten 4 chest pieces, 7 head pieces, and one sniper rifle. I know there's also a ship possible, but that's it. I almost laugh at the thought that Bungie believes that will keep the player base interested for 2 weeks. I'll still do the bounties, hopefully reaching lvl. 3 unlocks the legendary weapons they advertised, but now there's no point at all in doing the missions after lvl. 24.

Oh well, 5 days 'til Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I can make do until then.

People would still farm the cave because it's a glitch and easier then intended.

It's not a glitch. It's bungies system-Every creature has a chance at dropping an engram. Heck, outside of the guaranteed loot from Nightfall/Strikes, every mob in this game, that is, enemy, probably has the same chance at dropping a green/blue/purple engram at max level.

So when someone figures, 'Hey i can sit here and farm low level mobs and still have the same chance as going to Mars and struggling there' isn't a glitch.

So they get shit for saying nothing and get shit for admitting they fucked up a few things and are fixing it.

Nice paradigm you got there.

And when Blizzard did the same thing, they praised them for it. Hmmm. Maybe it's the way they said it? Bungie at the most gave vague answers- "We're not going to tell you HOW or WHEN we're going to fix engram decryption.". Like I mentioned before-They weren't clear on how many things there would be in the game when it released. They certainly aren't being clear here.

Blizzard avoided the shit talk by being clear on exactly what they were doing post Diablo 3 release and pre RoS release. They're doing the same with WoD. Blizzard has done this song and dance before, they know exactly what to say and how to say it. Bungie doesn't. They're not conveying a clear message.

At least now, I hope, Bungie knows what they must do. These hotfixes aren't promising, but I'm willing to have faith (keyword: faith) that this is only because they're going back to the drawing board on how they want players to progress.

Destiny has the potential to be one of the best games with its current framework. What's present on that framework isn't good at the moment, but the foundation and concepts are there.

Can someone explain to me why do we get jack and shit for doing missions on heroic? Truly, what is the point? Jesuschrist we should at least get more XP depending on the level of the enemies, even if it's a sliver more.

So if I've completed the raid already this week, can I play it again with another group and still get items from the chests? Or is it once I've played through it once I don't gain anything at all from it?

Having run through it twice.

I got a the same shader twice, boots with a lower light level than my current legendary pair that I bought, ascendant energy x 2, ascendant shards x 2, and a warlock bond. Information is spot on.

Those boots are equivalent light to an exotic.
The set armor pieces are the only way to hit lvl 30 right now. Best loot possible from VoG.

More and more starting to think Microsoft keeping them only doing Halo was a smart move. Giving them free reign really is not playing to their strengths.

The problem is loot curves and activities are fucking hard. Look at Blizzard and D3 those guys have a legacy of this shit and they bungled D3 so hard at launch.

I'm sure others have said it, but there's something that you might want to edit into the patrol mini-guide linked in the OP: Assassination missions give 25 Vanguard faction instead of 10 like other missions, so you should always do those if you're aiming to get your Vanguard rank up.

So they get shit for saying nothing and get shit for admitting they fucked up a few things and are fixing it.

Nice paradigm you got there.

I'm not sure how "damned if you do, damned if you don't" is unwarranted when you release a game with so many half-baked ideas and systems. To say nothing of the non-existent story and wasted lore.

Nope, now you get to do a hard mission for no reward. Guess they forgot the running theme of the game while making this event, silly them.

If I didn't get shards for breaking them before that would have been SO frustrating. So luckily they made it so for players who need it. Cool event, guys.

on top of that, if you were to replay a story mission on hard (because you might like that mission) gets yous no reward at all on completion

its just baffling

Wait, am I supposed to be able to do the Queen's missions at 20? I finished a bounty or two, but mousing over the option in the map screen gave me a greyed out banner with "IMPOSSIBLE" written across it.

So if I've completed the raid already this week, can I play it again with another group and still get items from the chests? Or is it once I've played through it once I don't gain anything at all from it?

You can only get the chests once per week.

Standing at that cave is more fun than 90% of the content in this game.

This game is diablo3 when that launched. And that is not a compliment.

This just reminds me of the saying about mmorpgs. "Exploit early, exploit often". First it was the coin exchange and now shards. Although shards wasn't an exploit.

I don't understand this game. The only purples I have are from the Queen. Never even seen a yellow. I'm not sure what I should be doing. Strikes? Crucible? Missions? What do I do? I'm so lost
