To extend your argument further, one might say Bungie really should make it so you can just stand in one spot and shoot guys that respawn anywhere you want. Who is Bungie to say where you can and can't farm the game's rewards? It's almost like they designed the game to be played in a certain way.
And they didn't "chide" anyone in patching it up. It was an exploit. People tend to take advantage of them. It's understandable that people would in a loot game. It's even understandable to be upset when the exploit is patched, since getting the loot is now (intentionally) more difficult. But no, I don't think closing something like this constitutes chiding the player base, especially when they go about it in a self-depreciating way. It constitutes acknowledging a flaw in the game and fixing it.
