I think I fucked up by representing a faction straight away. Just hit level 2 with New Monarchy but been reading it's better to level up vanguard first. Oh well, too late now.

What's the disadvantage? If there is one.

You cant spend Vanguard marks until you level up vanguard rank... so you could hit the 200 mark cap if you dont level it up. I ended up using 30 marks already to buy a cloak I didn't even want since I had to spend it on something. It was either that or hit the cap and waste any others I earned.

Does everyone know the light progression for non raid purple armor's last 3 upgrades?

Max light: 28
Light with out shard upgrades: 22
Upgrades left: 3

At first I thought it would be 2 light for each upgrade, but someone said it's 1,2,3 for the last 3 upgrades.

I am asking because I wonder if I want to hit 28 before getting a raid purple armor, if it's just 6 shards, i'd probably do it, but 12? .... Probably not...

Thanks, that is pretty shit. Fucking cap on the glimmer is stupid also.

First disadvantage is you have access to less gear if you don't hit level 3 on Vanguard and Crucible before picking a faction. Second major disadvantage is factions only take Crucible marks for currency making Vanguard marks worthless, so you can buy legendary gear much less often.

Alright so I started the Raid but my net crapped out.

So yesterday Hawkian helped me do the Nightfall Strike even though he'd already done it. His act of kindness has spurred me in to return the favour, if anyone needs help doing the nightfall strike I can help out now on PS4.

Hoping others do the same to help out the community, it's not all about grinding/reaching the next lvl yourself, it's also cool to help others complete challenges. I think the community around Destiny is fantastic, especially on GAF, despite the limitations around clans on Bungies end.

There are many things wrong with this game in my opinion from the loot system they seem to be trying to fix, to the repetitive and reused content, to the really no end game aside from the one raid, but I feel like where Bungie really dropped the ball the most is the story. I expected a lot more from them after Halo. I mean...there is no story at all. Some may say "well go read the grimoires and infer the story from everything else!"....but...there is still no story. I find this to be the most tragic thing about Destiny. I really don't want to buy the DLC if it's just going to be more grind content.

C'mon, Bungie, make a real story happen! The grind is real, the story is not.

My queen helmet has 27 light fully upgraded

I know that the 1st shard upgrade only gives 1 light. idk about the other 2, but I did go from 22 to 27 after all 3 last upgrades.

Why do the Factions only accept Crucible marks?

I've been trying to figure this out for the longest. It's so counter-intuitive to just limit Vanguard marks to just the Vanguard vendor.

I believe the only disadvantage to farming other factions right away is that you start off with a decent Vanguard rep at 20 already through story missions so you're taking a few steps backwards by starting over with another faction.

Just ran through Skywatch with my level 4 Warlock and a friend on his low level alt, there were three late 20s Guardians standing around at the cave spot looking incredibly lost.

I watched them for a few minutes, they just kept their rifles raised at the entrance, not moving an inch. The concentration was so intense I swear I could actually hear their Super bars slowly filling.

After another minute or so one of the group, the leader I think, started looking around erratically. He saw me standing there watching him and his shoulders visibly sagged. Before today I didn't know that animation existed in the game. I waved to him. He stared at me blankly. I think I heard a whimper from somewhere in the distance...

I messaged him and asked if they were aware the cave had been nerfed. A few seconds later all three just disappeared.

As they left, a single thrall ran out of the cave entrance.

I shot it.

A white engram rolled across the ground...

Vanguard rep will level a faction, but Vanguard marks won't buy gear. Yay!

Ah thanks... so max out at 27 instead of 28?
or queen's gear is inferior compared to other purple/...
definitly not spending 12 shard to get to 28...

Yes! This has been frustrating me the most. I picked a Fraction because I did not want to mess with the damn Vanguards, (Dead Orbit is best Fraction BTW) and now I have a bunch of marks I cannot use unless I force myself to level it up. Honestly, Bungie needs to make the marks useful for more than just one type of vendor...

Reached Level 20 and I'm confused on how to level up the Vanguard rank versus getting Vanguard marks.

Crucible I get -- play multi, which does both at the same time. Great!

But vanguard? How do I join a faction? Is that what buying and equipping the faction-specific cloak does? Should I do that immediately, or level up the general Vanguard rank first? What do I do to avoid hitting the Marks cap in this case?

You know what'd be nice, a legendary class item (cloak, mark, etc..) that does something other than simply be cosmetic. Not complaining here either! I was thinking today about the limits on exotics and thought it'd be interesting to have an item that allows me to equip a third exotic. or perhaps jump higher thereby allowing me to spec out a little differently, etc...

I've been wanting to give it a try, nightfall that is. Lv 27 and no mic though. Was planing on trying to get a group together this weekend and then just cheese the final boss of it. PSN: tehSlacker

Wait, if I wear a faction item I don't level up Vanguard as well? This game is really poor at explaining things.

The game has been available for just over 2 weeks and they've already mentioned they planning on addressing strikes and such.

My biggest problem is that they lacked the foresight to see that these things would be a problem to begin with. Saying they're going to fix something in the future doesn't really help anyone in the present.

Wow, just wow!

Best AR I've ever had the pleasure using in any game. I hope it holds up when upgraded, not sure if the slower fire when ads'ing is a plus or minus. It feels plenty stable stock. A Galahad-E on steroids.

So now when I get the Queens Plate for the sixth time it'll be worth even less scrapped?

Bungle pls post dev notes on why this is a thing.
Yeah, I'd like to read that too. If they're going to remove the ability to break down the gear then they ought to make sure they don't give out doubles, triples, or more of the same piece. I've gotten the chest piece three missions in a row. What do I do with the extras now?

* * *

I think the reason they don't tie loot levels to enemy levels is so that a high level player can play with low level players and still have a chance at getting some usable loot.

Geez, the stats on that look way better then the cooler looking Hard Light I got yesterday. Dat impact.

Honestly, Fractions better play bigger parts in the sequel or something... right now they are just sorta cool stuff to have for your character to look slightly different than everyone else...

Do patrols to get rep for Vanguard (Make sure you arent wearing another faction's cloak).

Why does sunsinger get his overshield up for landing a melee while a defender titan has to kill with his melee?

Why does hunter and warlock get supers where they have overshields or raised def while titans do not?

I'm tempted to finish leveling my warlock and maining sunsinger, seems all round better then my titan with his one and only panic button move.

Believe it or not, the stats are almost the same as the Shingen. It's effectively an exotic shingen, not Galahad.

Their have been a lot of well thought out and very valid critiques in this thread since Cave gate and I can appreciate that. Now that I've had the game available to play for this long, the initial veil of excitement has gone and I can step back and see some of the ongoing flaws of the game. It's still very fun for me though, but improvements need to be made quickly.

I don't understand why Bungie nerfed the cave prior to releasing a loot solution, very asinine IMO. And, after all the feedback given to Bungie after the Alpha/Beta about chat options, why did they wait until launch to finally be looking into the option?

When I think about the decisions being made about this game I can only imagine a room full of people who presented great ideas before launch, but the couple of people in charge are set on their "vision" of how their game should be played, can't deviate from that.

Another topic is the very short story that did not really explain anything that well. I understand the Grimoire is available but even Final Fantasy 13 was able to put a datalog in game because they knew a lot of stuff was left out that needed to be explained conveniently. And, based on the current story and overall content, how does that translate well for the marketing of the DLC to those on the fence about the future of the game. Wouldn't they think, "well I paid $60 for the game and I feel the content is kinda lacking, why would I spend another $30ish for possibly lackluster results." I'm hoping Bungie moves quick based on the news they released today.

And this is coming from someone who has the exotics and legendary stuff and has beat the Raid, but I for one don't want the game to go dead because Bungie execs making hasty decisions and pushing folks away.
