Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Titans without the hardened choice is as soft as normal mid-strike, but that's a choice for the player.

I'm on about how a sunsinger can punch me without getting a kill and continue fighting with an active overshield, a defender titan has to kill to get his... and he is a titan.

Bubble is for all yes but two golden gun shots do the dome will destroy it, void bomb from warlock will also nuke it, it's not that great in most situations, even the granted overshield from walking inside it could be better.

Simply put as someone who has played titan since beta I think they need tweaks.
oh i agree

i think the defender needs a little more ...focused versatility in pvp and the sunslinger's regen on melee is a bit much.

i don't think they're gimped though by any means. if anything, i think they're the most well rounded class by far. (people think the blade dancer is OP for all the wrong reasons/lolwalker/etc)

Soooooo - is 26 just way too low to join in on the Nightwatch or Raid? I'm kind of starving for something new to do and would love to get in on some better gear at the moment but I don't wanna be that heel on a team of 28s that is just completely useless...

if it's not too low to do at 26 is there anyone wanting to run through either one this evening?

Raid might be ok for you, nightfall as well. This weeks nightfall was easy compared to the last 2

Enjoy it while you can :(

I've maxed out both the hard light and suros. For PVE I absolutely love the suros, and for mid/long rage engagemeets in pvp it's great. However, the slower firing while ads absolutely kills it for most encounters in pvp since they are in large majority, close range. And scaling works against it alot in pvp. I find the hard light is thus far superior overall. As the accuracy when you get stability is great, and overpenetration is great in both PVP and PVE. I find I simply need to burst fire to get weakspot hits with the hard light so I have no issues with it. Thus I have switched to the hardlight. Also both have additional damage bonuses from bottom half of the mag. But for some reason only the bottom few rounds of the Suros get any real boost while the hardlights whole bottom half deals relatively flat damage. Which is better for me since I'm often reloading between lulls in combat, so the suros is kind of a pain. If I could disable the slower rate of fire while ads I would use it non stop, alas I can't, so I'll save it for Iron Banner.

The more I think about the Queen event, the more I am just left scratching my head. Currently, who does this thing cater to? Why is it here?

Let's see:

Higher level players (I'd say 26+) were able to use this to fill a potential gap in legendaries if they happened to not have a chest or helmet. That's nice. Alternativly and more importantly, it was gaining a stockpile of resources by breaking down the extra legendaries. I mean, it gives you one guaranteed, so obviously that was intentional, right? Either way, it doesn't hurt to get a lot of that even if it's just to level another exotic or something, so it was appreciated even if it was the same missions again. But now? All you are doing is leveling a faction that is going to vanish when the event is over, and more importantly it doesn't have anything for these players. Rare guns? That's outdated at this point. A random shader is alright, I guess, but that's a lot of effort for it (and the other one is locked to rank 3?). It's just...not worth the effort put into it.

Now, lower level players that are still capable of clearing her missions (say, 22-24 or so) are probably more in need of it. Guaranteed legendary, hard to complain. Well, except they are now solely at the coin flip RNG. When I did these, I had everything except a legendary helmet...I did every bounty the first day and the mission for each one, and got a coat each time. The second day I got the coat two more times, again, then finally a helmet, then a helmet again and the other bounty was impossible. I was annoyed, but at the same time there WAS actual progression happening. I was breaking down coats and getting something pretty worth it for my time. Now? Imagine how unreasonably frustrating that same dice roll would play out, now that each and every one of those duplicate coats is a total waste of the player's time. One player may just cash out and get the thing they need right away, another may need to take days redoing the missions just hoping this will finally be the last one. And it's silly to actually want to level a faction/buy an expensive ass helmet when you have a good chance of getting a 'free' one for this event. So all this patch did was make it a headache for people who needed it, and make it pointless to do for people who didn't use the gear. Cool event. Seriously, what?

And there's more. Helmets in this game...they're a premium. They cost almost twice as many marks as any other piece, causing you to hit the cap AND THEM SOME to get one. Yet this game in other ways doesn't care. It actually bugged me seeing Xur last week sold that exotic Titan helm, because it for some reason was the same price as my gauntlets. Why? Titans lucked out like crazy, they could have spent 195 marks(just under 2 weeks worth) to deck out everything but the helmet, and then the 13 coins for the helmet to finish the collection. Same thing with week 1 and the Hunter splinter cell helmet. Warlocks? 13 for arms, 130 for arms/legs, 120 for helmet--that's 250 marks, 2 and a half weeks, because helmets are special. So in that sense, it's nice/weird that the queen just tosses these out, but also that things like Xur don't scale it to keep the same premium. Even ignoring the issues I have with bungie previously saying "loot will have a story", even approaching the game like it's a storefront to pick and choose loot you want still is skewed with awkward logic like this all over the place.

I don't even care about the cave really, I knew that was coming, even if it's only in existence due to severe deep rooted loot problems in the game. But the queen thing is so unbelievably stupid, causes nothing but a giant week and a half gap of a pointless event for most people, and outright pissing people off who actually try to get the gear now if RNG rolls keep ended up a dud. The worst thing about the event was the exploity nature of the piss easy Earth mission that had to be twenty times faster than any other mission, yet instead of removing that out of the rotation they just destroy the loot itself. I think everyone would have preferred not guaranteed but fairly likely loot that still had some purpose on top of making it so there wasn't a 3 minute mission to burn through a bunch of times, because either way there are a lot of days remaining to get what you wanted/needed. Like, what a lazy and terrible fix. I just don't get it. I was having a decent time knocking out queen and vanguard bounties at the same time, like yesterday doing the public events/devil walkers/fallen kills at the same time, just as a little thing to turn the game on for each day. Now I don't want to even bother with the queen stuff beyond getting the first shader since I'm already close enough.

I think I fucked up by representing a faction straight away. Just hit level 2 with New Monarchy but been reading it's better to level up vanguard first. Oh well, too late now.

What's the disadvantage? If there is one.

Capping out vanguard marks, but it's not a huge deal when you can rank up twice as fast when you get rep for your faction from both crucible and vanguard activities, so you can buy good legendary gear quicklier.

I haven't touched much of PVP over the three of my characters, but god damn would I pay for the game modes minus supers.

What's the Hunter's role in a raid? I can see the defense bubble and self-res, but what's the hunter add to a group dynamic? Stealth?

I've gotta be honest they don't feel all that special in PvE at times. Our stealth can be crazy useful but a lot of the time you die anyway from mobs shooting floating dead ghosts. Hopefully when I get the Alpha Lupi chest piece which will be my PvE chest piece, it'll feel better since it gives quick revives.

I've started a Titan and I'm sure I'll start a Warlock soon since they really do have their strengths.

yup well said. they basically neutered their own event.

I kind of wish that they would add a damage system to the armor/items. Where you have to repair them or buy repair kits to repair them in the field. It would just add a bit more too the game, perhaps a penalty for when you die etc. Just a lot of unexplored/underdeveloped things they could of added to round out the game some more.

With that said, still having a blast, but not getting very far. I have one character that I play only with my Wife (her 1st FPS), another character with a friend and they my main that I try to play in-between the other 2. I kind of wish that you could have more than 3 characters as I would like to make another hunter, but use a different species.

Why can't we trade? Such a missed Social aspect that would go a long way in really helping this game be more rounded out.

Why on earth would you wish for durability? More tedious busy work is the last this game needs.

Just ran through Skywatch with my level 4 Warlock and a friend on his low level alt, there were three late 20s Guardians standing around at the cave spot looking incredibly lost.

I watched them for a few minutes, they just kept their rifles raised at the entrance, not moving an inch. The concentration was so intense I swear I could actually hear their Super bars slowly filling.

After another minute or so one of the group, the leader I think, started looking around erratically. He saw me standing there watching him and his shoulders visibly sagged. Before today I didn't know that animation existed in the game. I waved to him. He stared at me blankly. I think I heard a whimper from somewhere in the distance...

I messaged him and asked if they were aware the cave had been nerfed. A few seconds later all three just disappeared.

As they left, a single thrall ran out of the cave entrance.

I shot it.

A white engram rolled across the ground...

I cry errytime

I approve 100%. The more time passes, the more I realize Bungie screwed up. I'm not familiar with Halo but knowing Bungie's reputation I expected better from them.

Yep, this only show they have no idea how to run a MMO-Loot grind kind of game, ain't easy.. They better go poach some Blizzard or Arena Net talent if they want this thing to work.

What's the Hunter's role in a raid? I can see the defense bubble and self-res, but what's the hunter add to a group dynamic? Stealth?
The Bladedancer's invisibility is fantastic for revives.

It's not my lucky day... 4 time in a row a dude bails out of a strike like just in the middle or before a boss WTF!?

I mean Bungie what the hell!?.. you have almost zero social tools (proximity chat and what not) because according to you online trolls (more like shit we need to ship this game whatever...), but then you can just fuck off out of a strike with no consequence whatsoever (press -Y- go to orbit!)... I mean, this game man... this game .. slowly shaking head.

If it is Devil's Lair being they are bailing because they only want to kill the Walker for the Queen's bounty.

yup well said. they basically neutered their own event.

If you can even call it an event. Shader and emblem is nice I guess, the mark is just a reskin, and if you're already level 26-28 no point in doing it afterwards. I'll be honest, i was expecting new story content or being able to walk around the reef(Like they showed before), not just repeats of missions and bounties.

Next is Iron Banner....hopefully they don't mess that one up.

EDIT-did they actually hotfix the devil walker bounty glitch of not getting credit for it? It'd be awkward if they fixed the loot cave and queens shards, but not that..

So after playing with it a bit... The Devil You Know handcannon is solid and probably one of the better legendary hand cannons. It's only weakness is the range really.

Having fun playing with it in PvP at the moment. Much much better than the Thorn which was just depressing to use. Still hope to get a Lord High Fixer one day to try it. Probably no longer buying that though since I have this now.

Fast thread ;p

So queens missions...are a helmet and chest the only rewards?

Well, there's a legendary sniper rifle that you can get if you want to try your luck, but if you're like me, you probably won't want to bother after 17 missions, especially now that you can't even get shards from it.

What's the Hunter's role in a raid? I can see the defense bubble and self-res, but what's the hunter add to a group dynamic? Stealth?
Take 2 Hunters with golden gun and titan/warlock with their area damage super. And you can own the portals in seconds. Golden Gun works well also with taking out mobs long distance. Being invisible helps revive teammates if they're hard to get too.

How can they mess up Iron Banner? All it is is a new PVP playlist with specific currency.

With solar and void weapons and cheesing the boss fight, probably. But you need to have void weapons to burn minotaur shields and solar to take advantage of crazy high solar damage this week.

Does the bonus damage to the shield outweigh the solar damage bonus? I thought I read that Solar was best for all, but I haven't done it yet so I'm not sure.

I'll clarify further... even if people farmed thinking the independent/per enemy drop rate was 10x higher than anywhere else, they would be wrong, but only technically. That distinction matters.

It's not only technically. Despite getting more drops, which would mean more chances, the chance on each individual engram stays the same. This means the "failures" and "successes" are the same, the only thing that changes is the amount of time spent burning through them.

Then why defend Bungie so regularly? Why apply or remove MMO-tropes arbitrarily depending on whether the label helps or hurts Bungie. First you blame players for poisoning the well, now it's matter of scope and ambition? How about that's not the issue people are discussing here? The problem isn't they didn't account for the rate at which enemies spawn from the cave, but the fact that ever had to make that change in the first place. Focus on the concatenation of events that would eventually lead to caves all over the world being patched. The patch is the treatment of the symptom and not the underlying disease. The problem isn't the exploit, it's everything else. Take for example the game I played before Destiny: Transistor. There is a fucntion combination in Transistor comprised of Jaunt(A)+Spark(U)*+Purge(U) that absolutely destroy everything in that game aside from bosses. I mean you would have to try your hardest to lose with those functions equipped. Yet I still experimented with all kinds of combinations during the entire game, but it was encouraged and designed for me to do so. Yet I don't feel similarly about Destiny -- why?

*It might have been Bounce, I don't remember.

I'm not removing or applying MMO tropes. I've always recognized that these systems are most closely aligned with MMO systems. And whether that hurts or helps depends on the perspective of the player. Plenty of people hate those systems in MMO's and they hate them here as well.

There's also a distinction that you're either missing or ignoring. People aren't shooting the cave because it's the most fun. They're shooting the cave to gear up/load up on mats and cash. Making the strikes more fun wouldn't make those players do differently. Sure they'd play the strikes (presumably more) but they'd still use the cave to gear. This is where your Transistor example falls short. You have nothing to gain running the OP setup in your example so you're literally choosing power or fun. In Destiny, the cave vs. intended progression is choosing avoidance vs. the intended experience.

If Iron Banner is the same as during the Beta, it's not worth writing home about. It's just regular Crucible with a twist, and at the end you get an emblem and a class item.

Iron Banner is supposed to have rewards unique to that playlist ._. I await the RNG demon to screw me over.

To alot of people, Iron Banner means they get to show off their equipment and dominate with it.

i believe i said last week that they'd patch exploits before they patched bugs and glitches.

trying the 20 scout rifle headshot kills in crucible queen bounty was a mistake, trying to duel anyone with an autorifle of similar skill at any range is always resulting in me dead.

Got all that set... Void dmg especially as my Zombie and Wizard are both Void. Held onto a solar sniper and machine gun for the weeklies as they come so now i'm happy i've got em around.

Might give it a shot just to see the frustration build...

If a group of yous badasses are going to run the raid and can fit me into the group as a kind of a Destiny based charity program.. PSN: silkysm00th - west coast time - 11:30.

Also: Fuck that queens wrath bs. So useless now and i was gone most of the weekend. Missed out on so many shards x.x

trying the 20 scout rifle headshot kills in crucible queen bounty was a mistake, trying to duel anyone with an autorifle of similar skill at any range is always resulting in me dead.

Try control on Bastion or First Light. Probably your best bet on this one, I found it to be unbearable.

If it is Devil's Lair being they are bailing because they only want to kill the Walker for the Queen's bounty.

Actually just once was earth, and yeah they bailed after the walker.. then it was 2 times the moon strike and then the mars one.

I mean I'm not condoning players for being dicks, thou I'm more annoyed by the fact you can just jump into orbit bail on your team no consequence whatsoever... I already did it once, to my surprise you just like whatever apear in your ship menu, its all cool.

So I suppose you can be jumping and bailing into strikes to troll people the whole day if that is your sort of stuff, Carefully designed Bungie gameplay systems laddies and gents.
