Yep lol, at least for UK, I asked 2 amazon representatives on chat (one after the other lol) and the logs emailed to me but they both went and checked and said the same thing, up to a year to return it and the reason that the performance is not adequate for the price.

Good to have rights (:P).

I'm going to push my luck and call them on it, going to hold onto it till the custom 980s come out. 970 is so appealing though...seems like they're forcing me to sli. Staying strong, for now.

That's some bullshit. So you can just keep upgrading to the latest GPU for free? That doesn't seem right.

I just checked my account and the return window for my 780Ti expired on January 31st of this year, so we get less than 3 months to return GPUs I suppose.

The return window is when YOU can create a label - as I was told today.

You can talk to them and return it within the year though (here anyway). Worth a shot.

I don't think you could do that forever, they do track it. If they see you abusing it, they will stop you.
 
970 owners, can you confirm that bitstreaming of DTS-HD MA is supported? I can't imagine it isn't, but I don't see this spec listed on NVIDIA or other manufacturers' sites as it is for older cards.

I'm excited to upgrade from my 560ti 448 core and tackle some of the newer stuff in my Steam catalog, but I'm also holding off on watching Star Wars Despecialized Edition until I can get that lossless audio working.

HOLY SHIT BALLS, Amazon is amazing!

Just had a chat with customer service and was totally upfront with them.

Bought the 780Ti on November 7th of last year. Told them I wanted to upgrade to Maxwell as it's far more efficient. Mentioned Skyzard and his UK situation.

They looked at my account and told me that their return policy is only 30 days on electronics, but they will make an exception due to my history with them. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on Amazon and never returned anything.

They're even paying for return shipping and will credit me back the full $710 I paid for the card last year.

So considering a pair of 970s cost $660, I can upgrade to them and STILL get $50 in the process, all while getting to use the beastly 780Ti for the past year for free.

God damn, that is awesome!

I'm confused by the whole NVLINK thing on Pascal. Has Nvidia actually said they have a partnership with Intel to integrate this into the chipsets and CPUs? Otherwise, are they seriously expecting people to build Nvidia Tegra-based PCs or something to buy Pascal GPUs?
 
you all have i7s, but ive been told lately I should get a i5 for my new rig, what gives? :(

right now im looking at a i5 4690k, 16gb ddr3, 120gb ssd + 2tb hdd, z97 mobo and a gtx970 (actually the card will be posponed until its out in my country, shipping costs and premium on cards in online stores because its rare atm is riiculous) to buy soon, now im having second thoughts :(

Oh yeah, SLI 970s slaughter a single 980.

Remember a 970 is only about 15-20% slower than 980, yet still retains the important features like 4GB VRAM, 2MB of L2 cache, and 64 ROPs.

There's always SLI 980s, but not sure the cost is worth it, as I only have a single 2560x1440 ROG Swift monitor that isn't going to be replaced anytime soon.

Seems like definitely the way to go... hopefully they got better with drivers... and they fixed stuttering with sli recently or something right?

watch dogs goes from 50 to 85 fps at 2560 (no aa)!

Now that's an upgrade. Amazon making up twice for Corsair costing me...happy times, let's not go there.

Also getting some strange behavior with the fan speed. It's the Gigabyte 970 model and the fan during shut down or start up is ridiculously loud (high RPM; moving a lot of air). I have no idea why.
 
I got my OC'd 970 through Fire Strike just fine, but just 10 seconds of Archeage crashed the game, and like none of the icons for any of my apps would display. Even when clicked, most applications wouldn't show their UI. I had to restart my computer to get everything working again. I don't know what this is a problem with. Should I increase my GPU's power, max temps, or voltage?

None of the above. Lower your memory OC. It barely makes a difference in games and is much more unstable than a core OC.

If it still crashes, then you can decide to either lower core or increase voltage.
 
I heard Gigabyte was the way to go for the 970? Something to do with a better fan? Although...

The issue is PCI-express has yet to create a standard to deal with the new bandwith numbers. Nvidia has a history of esoteric and propietary formats: PhysX, G Sync, etc. I wouldn't put it past them to use their amazing GPU sell throughs to corner the motherboard market to support a new standard exclusive to Tegra :/

Being stable in benchmarks doesn't always show if the overclock is stable or not.

The best way to test really is to just play games as well. Lower the core clock by 30MHz and see if it's stable, if so increase by 5 until it gets unstable and then go back 5 again.

And as Evo X mentioned, don't push the memory clock too much either. Won't help much.

Decreased from +500 to +400. Performance has actually increased.

Should I have benchmarked with a game like BioShock Infinite like someone else was doing rather than Fire Strike while overclocking?

Yes, I always test my overclocks using intensive games. Much more reliable than synthetic benchmarks.

I also believe in 100% stability, so if it it even crashes or artifacts once in any situation, I turn down the OC.

What I would do in your situation is test the core and memory OC independently. Don't just jump straight to an OC you see on a review site or someone else using.

Reset memory to stock, then raise the core as much as you can without artifacts. Only once that has been proven to be 100% stable should you think about OCing memory. The stock 7GHz memory clock is more than enough for gaming. Any additional OC will lead to minuscule increases.

Yep, both Archeage and Total War: Rome 2 Benchmark was what found an issue in my overclock. Both caused the driver to crash after so long, so I turned down a notch, and they didn't after.

Firestrike and the unreal heaven tests didn't find the said issues.

It was worse when at super high FPS such as in an old game. At first, turning VSYNC on helped. Then it no longer helped and screamed anyway. Then i started hearing it faintly in other apps.

It was pretty obvious. I think if youve ran a few things and havent heard a peep, youre fine.

I thought my 780 Gigabyte did too, ended up swapping PSUs (to a Supernova G2) and it largely mitigated the problem (reduced the buzzing to the point of barely being perceptible). Now the full-force buzzing like my 780's original is back on the new PSU that solved my problem last time around. WTF. Will ship it back next week, I guess.

On the PC side Mordor also compares to the Batman games, in that it’s of good quality. There are even some enhanced graphics settings, including an ultra-high texture setting that requires a full 6GB of video memory. My only issue with it is some awkward menu controls, but most of those are customizable and those that aren’t aren’t too inconvenient to get used to.

980 only has 4gb :/
 
So with everything turned up pretty damn high in Batman AC (FXAA high for the AA), running at 4K (DSR) I averaged over 90 fps, with a brief low in the high 40s.

O_O

With PhysX and the DX11 stuff turned on, that is. Ridiculous.

PhsX and Gsync are a long way from trying to leverage GPU market share to push a CPU/mobo platform against Intel and x86.
