About how people completed hard mode and got no extra rewards for it. That is some aggravating bullshit.
This is the one thing about the reward and loot system that needs to change. It's running completely against the vision Bungie had for their loot in their vidocs. They said something along the lines of "When you see someone weilding so and so awesome weapon you will know what they did to get it" But that all falls apart when its all fucking RNG. Instead, one person weilding the Hawkmoon Handcannon can say he got it after completing the super hard Nightfall strike while another person can say a level 8 thrall dropped a legendary engram which turned into an exotic, and another person can say umm I got in last place in the crucible but I got this sweet exotic!
I agree that loot should be random, that's what makes it somewhat exciting. But it can't be COMPLETLEY random. I believe it should be tiered, and that sometimes you should be guaranteed to get a drop or reward for doing something amazing.
Here's how it should work. Enemy level/difficulty should play a role. I think its absurd I can kill a level 28 axis minotaur as a level 26/27 and get nothing or a green loot, but then I can also kill a level 8 acolyte and be randomly given a legendary.
Above a certain level enemies should be dropping only blues with a chance at a purple. The harder the enemy, the more chance they will drop the loot. This is because hard enemies are rare, and it helps prevent people from farming low level adds. I also think that if you kill an enemy that is above your level that chance should increase as it is more challenging. Bosses should also guarantee a drop. Most likely blue with a chance at purple if they are a high level boss.
I think some of the harder tiers of activities should guarantee a pre-set pool of awesome weapons. Kind of like Nightfall, it guarantees you legendary or an exotic. There should be a few weapons in that pool that are SPECIFIC for Nightfall. Maybe even for the nightfall version of a specific strike. So you get a unique weapon that when people see it they will know you completed nightfall to get it. Or they will ask you where and you can tell an awesome story. These weapons or armors will be EXCLUSIVE to that activity.
Kind of like how there is exclusive loot within the Vault of Glass. It just needs to be more guaranteed. And hard mode should get you even more exclusives.
I kinda rambled on so I hope you get my point, but tl;dr loot should drop based on the level of the enemies, give higher chances for harder enemies, guarantee EXCLUSIVE loot for the harder challenges in the game. But within those guarantee pools of loot what you get is random.
Oh and Crucible performance should absolutely up your chances.
