Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Is Force Barrier PvP viable? I thought I had read here on GAF that it doesn't really add that much mitigation. I've gone to using War Machine to counteract the slow reloading times of my Invective and heavy weapon.

Absolutely. Especially in objective based modes, it's a godsend and a must for any team. Of course, you want to force players into it. Walking out of it is usually death sentence as the enemy will probably be aiming right at your head the second you leave the shield/expires.

Here's a good example of how to use it

...and how not to use it

edit: i just noticed you were talking about ward of dawn and not the bubble. oops.

Force barrier, by itself is okay. it's good for staying alive a little longer after coming out of a close encounter with low health. Gives you a decent chance of surviving if you have to deal with another enemy right after.

But together with the bubble is a good compliment, giving you even greater survivability when outnumbered. I can usually survive 1v4 encounters with this when used correctly.

I’ve done the Vault of Glass all the way up to the last boss twice now, getting both chests in the Gorgon part, and it has given me nothing but Ascendant Energy and one legendary shotgun that does arc damage.

Total shit all the way down. Can’t quite beat the last boss every time I attempt it because I join random people, teach them what to do to beat everything, but the boss—not to sound like an elitist prick—takes too much skill and coordination to beat for these groups I join apparently.

The raid can be exhilarating but god damn is it frustrating to get virtually nothing from it. Wonder what tomorrow’s patch will bring (if there will be a patch at all).

You ever raided in a MMO? You get used to people flubbing on the mechanics, if you haven't already. It's best to find a solid group of people to practice with.

Also, I'm also of the opinion the loot distribution in the raid is fucked.

Everyone that reports in getting "crap" drops in the Raid is making it hard for me to justify the 2-3 hours playing it. Then I see people with awesome rewards which makes me want to try it.

I just wish the Raid wasn't subject to so much RNG and there was something guaranteed, like a definite piece of raid gear and/or weapon.

The most rage inducing thing is when you have a person in your strike that kills the shrieker when it spawns...

That thing is much more dangerous dead than alive and he just despawns after 8-10 shots.

Lol when I play with randoms, and I see them shooting the Shrieker, I then empty out a clip in said Random's face hoping they get the message.

I guess my confusion stems from the fact that many say attack ≠ damage. But it must at least have an affect on it?

So attack increases effectiveness? How specifically?

Attack isn't the only thing that effects damage but it does have an effect on it. Your level relative to the target as well as your weapons attack will both have a hand to play in the number that pops up when you shoot something.

Going from the base damage on one of my exotic hand cannons to the maxed out 300 upped my damage on the same exact low level monsters a crap ton so yeah its important if you plan to continue using the weapon.

Well except all the events Bungie has planned for limited times. And considering that's their main push to get people playing..

I will say, I got shafted by skipping playing destiny for a day during the queen bounties.

Turned out it was the last day you could dismantle her shit for ass shards :(

Feels good, man.

After many wipes and people leaving and joining yesterday vs. Atheon, we all get together pre-evening meal for a quick tactics talk, give it a go and BAM, job done! Had hoped for an epic cutscene, some dinklebot congrats or just something, but oh well, a plain old results screen will do I suppose.

Might as well show my proceeds of our trip to the VoG, many legendaries were sacrificed today for the ascendant energy (scout, shotgun, machine gun, hand cannon) to give my Praedyth's Revenge maximum impact today (almost 8000 damage from each shot to his special place!):

Was that on Normal? All I got for the trouble was Chatter White (admittedly a nice shader) and a few Shards and Energy. :(

Blah. I'll need to start on alternate characters soon. I don't want to play through the boring ass story again though...

Tell me about it. I have a level 2 Titan just sitting there and I don't even want to look at her. Maybe I'll round up some friends who feel like bullrushing through the story mode some time.

Oh yeah, normal. The final boss gave me the ship and the Scout Rifle, the other stuff was from chests (also got a ton of shards from very first chest after opening the first door). I did hear one guy say "all I got was a fucking shader!"...

Tomorrow is gonna be a grey day. New patch is out that fixes engrams, I'm gonna level up my Cryptarch, and I'll be able to get more Vanguard marks to buy a new scout rifle. woohoo!

Do we know what time they are supposed to deploy the patch tomorrow? I need to plan my day around this :)

Take it from someone who just leveled up 2 alts. Don't bother with the story. Play each alt for roughly half an hour to an hour a day. Just patrol in the divide until the public event walker spawns. Grab the bounties for earth patrols, melee kills, etc.

You should gain a couple of levels a day with the bounty turn ins, and you will be getting ascendant materials for your main from the public events.

I have a level 24 (alt) that hasn't unlocked Mars yet.

Never raided in MMOs before, but I have led 48-man platoons in Planetside 2 quite a few times (so maybe raided in the PvP sense, yes, absolutely, but not in the PvE sense). Being good with voice comms makes things great but getting a 6-man group together for Destiny is unnaturally difficult. Almost like the game was completely changed during the last 6 months of its development…

I invariably wind up being some kind of leader during the Vault of Glass after my random group hears me explain what to do with the Praetorians, and the Oracles, and the Templar, and the Gorgons, and the Gatekeepers, et cetera. I think I need to look into joining fellow GAFfers but I’ve lost the will to go through the Gatekeepers once again.

Odd as this sounds I couldn't care less about the patch tomorrow. Only thing I want is the mark cap reset so I can earn the ten marks I need to buy some boots for my alts. Cool patch but too late for me, I only need raid gear from here on out though I won't complain about possibly getting even more legendary weapons.

Re: Bladedancer being OP...

I can understand why people think Bladedancer is OP for PVP. However, and this is a big however, I think Bladedancer needs to be more powerful for PVE. As it is, I think there's a limit on how many kills you can get with the thing (something like seven, or maybe its seven hits?), which I think should be increased, and its "time in effect" should be amped up. It's something that should be used to clear out a room full of enemies, and on higher levels, it doesn't do that.

I don't see this being a problem with Destiny. You can only get to level 30, so there's really not much you can miss.

It sucks being Hunter in PvE. I can't ever use Blade Dancer in the Epic Strikes and so on. I only use it with invis to revive others. Golden Gun is only good when there is Solar burn going on.

Its great to support, but some PvE damage dealing would be nice.

My clan is looking to recruit a few more North American Xbox One players to make sure we consistently have enough players to run 2 Vault groups every week. It definitely beats joining random groups. If youre interested, shoot me a PM.

This is why I switched to Warlock in PvE.

You feel so much more powerful.

Agree, was playing with you last night, we should totally get back as the same group and finish the final boss

Yup, was there too and thinking the same thing haha. Prob one of the coolest and most fun things I've played in a long time. I know what we were doing wrong and we can definitely finish it this time.

Being a sunbro with self-rez, shield after melee, and endless grenades is to have mastery over everything in PvE. And I hear it’s pretty good in PvP. I like the fusion grenades more than solar grenades, however, so my glowly gauntlets are not as great but oh well. Soloing Nightfall and the Weekly Strike felt so good.

The Gatekeeper part is the most fun part of the entire raid. Two people get relics, and you're just using your Super against the conflux while one or two shotting enemies all around.

To be honest, do we really need to be using the relic supers against the conflux? I've always done it, but you don't get any visual cues the supers are doing anything. What if that whole phase is timed and all the fireteam is doing is preventing enemies from sacrificing themslves to the conflux?

hey guys I've got five pieces of legendary gear!

..and they're all chest pieces.

I would say try it. The last time I got 2 legendary weapons, one piece of armor, a shader, and a few materials. The time before I got an exotic, even though we didn't finish. I think the raid, along with the nightfall provide the best rewards in the game. And the weekly too if you get all 9 coins.

Raid from last Saturday gave me:

-Ascendant Shards
-Found Verdict Shotgun
-Atheon's Epilogue
-Chatterwhite
-Shattered Vault Cloak

Not bad, but I hoped for something like an Ice Breaker my friend got.

RNG bombards me with chest pieces too. To the point I ended up just buying all other parts.

Even the Queen did it. She gave me chest piece after chest piece but I was out to dismantle so no complaining there.

My team has never shot the conflux at all. We just kill the ads and the phase ends.
I don't think you are supposed to shoot the conflux.

Ok so I got sidetracked before.

Anyone keen on trying to run the final boss in the raid? I don't have the checkpoint so if anyone does and wants 2 hunters (lvl 28 and 27) to help out we'd be keen :)

I never used the relic super on the conflux.

It was funny the first time I did that fight, after like 15 attempts because teammates would not kill Oracles fast enough or the fight would glitch and make us die to Oracles anyways, that we realized there was two relics to get and that you didn’t just need to kill both gatekeepers.

When I do it now, it’s always about getting the jungle gatekeeper to near-death, then getting the first relic from the desert gatekeeper, then popping back into the jungle gate and grabbing the other relic. Only thing that makes it hard for me is when I have to solo the Minotaurs with the relic and they take off my shields with just one of their bullshit unpredictable melee attacks. And then sometimes my self-rez isn’t available, the relic drops, and no one responds in time.
