So how do folks feel about the Pvp a few weeks in?

Personally it frustrates me still. It's a lesser Halo.

I wish I could just play it for what it is.

YOU'VE WOKEN THE BUNGIE!

They will now patch out strange coin rewards for secondary and tertiary characters.

Lol Bungie interviewed the first level 30 and he straight up admitted he rolled three hunters. They know about it.

Another thing to take into account for leveling is the effect of grimoire cards. I get more xp from using Auto Rifles for example.

It makes me REALLY miss Halo 1-3. It feels very out of balance and the control/movement doesn't seem anywhere near the tightness of Halo. Something about Destiny's (mechanics are epic, dont get me wrong) core movement bugs me. It's something with sprinting, and turning and quick movements. It feels slightly janky and then awkward at times online with people in the crucible. Overall it's a fun time every now and then.

Someone on Reddit posted some nice UI improvements for the game. Wish they would incorporate all of these into the game. All so simple yet effective. Although I can understand about not having the weapon swap out.

Loadout:
Common in other MMOs, this would let you select a different set of gear very quickly and easily. Items equipped whilst you have a given loadout selected are then associated with that loadout; switching loadout then changes gear appropriately.

[B]Damage Type Icons[/B]:
Very simple, this one: show a small preview of the damage type icon on every weapon thumbnail. This makes swapping weapons around a lot more easy, since you no longer have to ‘hover’ each thumbnail to bring up the tooltip with the full description to find that arc fusion rifle you're so desperately looking for…

[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/Kik6dUN.jpg[IMG]

[B]Quick Weapon Select[/B]:
Press and hold Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox) in any context where square isn't already in use and it will bring up this interface. Pressing left and right on the directional pad will cycle between all weapons of this class in your inventory. Great for selecting special damage types during fights against majors/ultras.

[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/DgkAcge.jpg[IMG]

[B]Return to The Tower[/B]:
Does what it says on the tin; skip the loading screen for the director and go straight to the tower from the field.

A thousand times yes.

Of course I find blue shingen e and finish my invective shotgun bounty the day before its insane to use anything about a fusion rifle in crucible.

That said can't wait to run a bunch of lv 24 matchmaking strikes post patch.

If Bungie can add anything, it's return to Tower. A lot of great ideas in there that hopefully get implemented.

You give your alt your main's gear. Just put it in the bank. Instant level 26/27/28.

Wow, you're right. I am such a dumb sometimes. I can just rent equipment between characters.

YES. All of these. PLEASE!

Anyone fancy a bit of crucible? Control / clash / salvage / skirmish?

I'm neither brilliant nor super competitive but it's fun and I need some crucible marks 😄

I've always felt that emotes on the dpad was a waste. I like the emotes, but there are so many actual functions that the dpad would be better suited for. Quick weapon select, ammo consumables, quick subclass swap, etc.

I agree with everything there, and Bungie can easily patch those improvements in. Do it, Bungie.

Quick Weapon Loadout isn't something I'd like to see but the others are nice. Bungie clearly means for you to plan your loadout ahead of time though, as seen by the penalty to ammo when you switch mid-game.

True that. However, another more boring strategy would be to level another character who's the same class as your main. The moment it hits 20, you can transfer all your main's gear to it. This is how that one guy got to level 30 first.

Yeah, that's another possibility - but an extremely boring one. It does suck how rare those ascended shards are, though. Beyond that I have still to get any raid gear.
I would do this only if there were 2 other people who wanted to do this and run through the story missions (exp bonuses). I'm dead serious. Otherwise, it's boring by myself.

I can't believe that this game went through internal testing and no one realized how useless emotes were/are during actual gameplay. The fact that i have to open up my menu to reload my ammo instead of having it a quick press away is just.. well, dumb.

I'm really liking it. a lot more than I expected to

Those UI improvements all get my stamp of approval

edit: The quick weapon select shouldn't be allowed in PvP, anyway

I'm very interested in figuring out how the Destiny damage/crit damage modifers are calculated in game so we can determine what the best spread of weapon statistics are for each weapon type.

Math is not my area of expertise, but I'm looking for some help with this. Basically, through the bungie.net profile area, I'm able to extract the exact values for a weapon's statistics as shown below. Knowing these values and what damage/crit damage I do to each enemy - I believe we can calculate a formula that will help us determine how Destiny is doing these calculations.

My MIDA Multi-Tool:

The EXACT weapon stats numbers (100 is the max on all of these):
  • Rate of Fire: 42
  • Impact: 36
  • Range: 58
  • Stability: 57
  • Reload: 100
  • Magazine: 21

I'm level 28. On level 28 enemies I crit them for 575 damage and body shots are 192 damage at close-mid range.

The full JSON dump of my weapon statistics from bungie.net: http://pastebin.com/BZju3Wsf

If you'd like me to extract your weapon statistics from bungie.net, just post your profile link in here and the name of the equipped weapon you want exact statistics for.

Here is what we need from you in-game to help calculate these numbers after I get your true weapon stats.
  • Crit damage on mobs of lower level:
  • Body damage on mobs of lower level:
  • Crit damage on mobs of equal level (28):
  • Body damage on mobs of equal level (28):
  • Crit damage on mobs of higher level:
  • Body damage on mobs of higher level:

I believe there might be a global weapon type modifier that effects these calculations, something that makes sniper rifles, handcannons and scout rifles do more effective damage than ARs. Could it be tied to the rate of fire? Think the SUROS, when the RoF decreases, damage increases.

Here's a bit of information on "how the weapon stats work" from http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Weapon+Stats (there's no telling if this is accurate or not, just a place to start):

  • ATTACK: Higher attack allows your weapons to damage higher-level opponents. This stat modifies the Impact stat when you are higher or lower level than your target (reducing or increasing damage). Some Crucible game modes use this stat to calculate damage, some don't.
  • IMPACT - Increases the damage inflicted by each round. This stat is modified by your Attack and your character level vs. the level of the target you are shooting at.
  • RANGE - Increase the effective range of the weapon. This stat determines the distance that your shots hit for 100% damage before they begin falling-off to 50% damage. Range also affects the minimum and maximum size of your “bloom” circle when hip-firing. This stat also effects the size of your circle bloom when firing. Fusion Rifles don't suffer damage fall-off, but instead Range determines the speed of the projectile fired from these guns. (Note: Sights play a vital role in determining damage by increasing the Range of your weapon while aiming. Each Sight has it's own Range multiplier)

Thanks to anyone who can help with this project, once we figure it out I could easily build a tool that would allow you to compare/contrast two weapons and easily see if/how they affect your DPS against certain types of mobs!

UPDATE: If you want to extract your own weapon statistics, here's a step-by-step. Note: if you're more experienced its easier to find the HTTP request by watching the Network tab in your browsers web debugger:
After you open your character page in the browser, you'll see a URL like this:
Code:
http://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/2/4611686018428714043/2305843009215950134

See those last two series of numbers? We need to place them in this API URL like:
Code:
http://www.bungie.net/Platform/Destiny/2/Account/4611686018428714043/Character/2305843009215950134/

This URL alone is the API for your root character stats. Now let's grab the gun of your choice from inventory to look at weapon stats:
Right click on your gun icon in the page, and click Inspect Element. You'll see a block of HTML highlighted in your browser's web debugger. Somewhere near the
end of that block there will be a field called "data-id". Take the value of this (a series of numbers), and put it in the URL below in place of the
"{{data-id}}" placehoder.

Code:
http://www.bungie.net/Platform/Destiny/2/Account/4611686018428714043/Character/2305843009215950134/Inventory/{{data-id}}/?lc=en&fmt=true&lcin=true&definitions=true

Code:
Here's an example of a working URL for my MIDA Multi-Tool:
http://www.bungie.net/Platform/Destiny/2/Account/4611686018428714043/Character/2305843009215950134/Inventory/6917529030446241133/?lc=en&fmt=true&lcin=true&definitions=true

Well that depends on what you mean by completing bounties all the time. I have done every single non weapon based crucible streak bounty every single day since like launch other then like 4 days.

Yeah, like I mentioned before it's stupid how RNG based everything Destiny does is. It takes out skill or dedication entirely, because a person who spends 5 minutes in Crucible can get an exotic compared to someone spending 500 minutes in Destiny and not getting anything.

Exotic bounties are just that much worse.

yeah, i've been at level 28 for awhile and done tons and tons of bounties and the lack of my first is kinda frustrating.

Quick question. Since the Rahool patch is out tomorrow, should I leave any packages I get with the postmaster? If the engrams aren't in my inventory yet then they should be positively affected by the patch, right? Sorry if this has been asked before.

Going to say something that hunters aren't going to like. Put my 26 Titan on the back burner and got my hunter to 12. Love arc blade(it is op), love the melee attack, but man do I hate the cloaks. Yes I said it. I hate the cloaks.

Disagree. Having to switch quickly in those strikes would be more fun. It's not like it gives you a huge advantage. It's just less tedious.

I think the problem is that having a quick weapon switch option would imply that that is how bungie wants the game played, and not being prepared beforehand and having to change takes a bigger risk though the menu. Same with the ammo consumables, It seems like it was designed with the hassle of having to go in your menu to use them in mind.

The "go back to tower" option on the other hand is a great idea.

Disagree. I always forget to swap my weapons, so this would be an awesome feature. Opening a menu to do a simple task is redundant.

While I can understand the reasons that you would like such a feature to exist, it would be going completely against the three weapon design. Having access to ~20 weapons at the touch of a button instantly would break the game.

There's a reason why switching weapons comes with an ammo penalty as well as putting yourself at risk from enemy fire.

I'd add the Timebreaker (Legendary Sparrow) to that list as well. Hell I'd probably take that over the Vex rife tbh...
Yeah, I forgot about that one, but yeah....anything non-standard gear and has the chance to stand out, basically.

And won't be replaced.

So how do folks feel about the Pvp a few weeks in?

Personally it frustrates me still. It's a lesser Halo.

It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Cloaks are like the only good armor thing for hunters. Other then random special pieces hunter gear looks bad if not for the cloak.
