Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Putting this story into the game would be freaking awesome.

Screw having to use a website online to access game story which I can't access in-game.

So where do the 500+ attack guns come from? Seen people post pics of like 510 damage legendaries, but all the stuff I've seen starts at 248 or 260 and I don't think full upgrades take them beyond 300ish do they?

I don't know how the leveling up works exactly, but does the jump for 27 to 28 matter much in Nightfall? Still haven't managed to beat it, but ever time I've tried I've been with two other 27 people. That video about beating it solo says you will put out way less damage and take way more if you're not 28. Is that correct?
It is correct. I beat my first at 26, but you will have a much easier time at 27 and correspondingly at 28.

Likely the Alpha and Beta. Damage numbers on the weapons were toned way down for launch.

I think old beta pictures. Nothing goes beyond 300.

I can't speak for the jump from 27 to 28, but I did try Nightfall at 26 and 27 and found it to be far more manageable at 27. So I'd imagine 28 won't be bad at all.

Man, this would've solved the areas feeling so empty. Imagine walking through the hallways of Old Russia and being able to read Grimoire notes. Would've been awesome.

Yep, agreed.
I saw some vid that was talking about the Cabal origins and such and man, there could have been some awesome context to missions if they would've tapped into their history. Same with a lot of the Grimoire stuff, I know it was added late but dammmmmn the lost potential.

Looking at the grimoire cards for Patrols... Killing 50 VIP targets gets you to rank 1 with the following benefit rewarded: Additional resources are now granted for completing City tasks in any destination.
I don't notice more resources gained. I'm wondering if this is glitched.
Anyone know the benefits for rank 2 or 3?

Hey, Bungie Community.

I hope you had a nice weekend.

We noticed that you noticed that we already have plans for upcoming content packs in Destiny.

We do! They have activity names (which may or may not change) and we have a really good idea what they're going to contain. They even have placeholder nodes in the Director, as you've already discovered.

But neither of the Expansion Packs we've announced are finished.

People at Bungie are hard at work to complete content for our first post launch pack, "The Dark Below," as I type these words. It will be finished soon. It releases in December. Soon, we'll detail it out for you so you can see exactly what we've been working on.

Thanks for playing. Thanks for the passion. We know you want details. We'll talk more soon.

Still looking to add a few more members to my North American Xbox One clan to fill out our multiple Vault groups and reliably have enough people online to run our Vault groups. It beats trying to jump in random groups every week. We have 4-5 members of GAF in our ranks.

PM me if you're interested.

Anyone wanna give me a hand in the Summoning pits exotic bounty? It's the one where you have to get "Xyor the unwed" to spawn.

Shit is tough, man... Just did it with two lvl 28 players and we got pretty close.

My psn is the same as my username btw. Would love some help.

I saw this on a recent Reddit post ..

Ever stop to think WHY we're asked to raid the Vault of Glass? Check this out .. from the Grimoire of course:

"Beneath Venus the Vex have constructed a massive structure that is acting as a meeting point of past, present and future. Their long-term goal is to basically unchain themselves from the constraints of a physical reality and turn themselves into a sort of epistomological computer virus in the very fabric of reality, incorporating the very IDEA of themselves into the fundamental laws of the universe. Because in this space, reality and time are starting to be altered, Oracles and Gorgons are basically quantum supercomputers that calculate reality and utilize a weaponized ontology to determine what is and is not real. This is why a Gorgon can look at you and kill you, because it simply unwrites you from existence. Oracles make changes and revisions to reality, and the Templar/Aetheon processes these calculations into existence.

The relic is the last, dying, desperate act of Kabr, a guardian who managed to send word that this was happening. He basically killed a Gorgon himself and hammered its corpse into a vessel for the Light, turning it into a shield that maintains a small space of stable reality around it. Throughout the raid, the Vex are constantly trying to separate you from it, throwing it into the past or future where it can't be used against them."

And this:
"All the guns and armor you find in the raid are the remnants of Kabr's failed raid and will give further info about their wielders and the events of the raid itself. In fact, some of the general exotics in the game once belonged to friends of Kabr too. The Super Good Advice machine gun is one such example but comes from the exotic bounties. This was crafted by a hunter named Pahanin who passed Kabr's warning about the Vault from Venus. After witnessing what happened to Kabr he became deathly afraid of being alone; he reckoned that he could only continue existing as long as someone was able to perceive him. So, to ensure that a mind could perceive him at all times he used an AI gun."

aaaaahhhhhhhhh

On the disc stuff. Errrrr

It still would've been a bad move, but at least they could've blunted a lot of the initial anger by not having those areas pop up as named locations in-game at all. It doesn't add to "the mystery", only the frustration. Nobody is going to say "man, this game is dope. I can't wait to get the chance to pay for access to this other stuff in this game... that I just bought.". Gahhhh drives a man to drink, I tell you.

That may make the raid tomorrow a little bit harder than usual :p game issue or has the controller given up?

Quickly check and see if your controller settings have switched. I thought my R1 button had crapped out because melee was no longer working but it turned out that the game had mysteriously switched my controller layout.

Anyone want to post so of their favorite grimoire lore that they've uncovered? Here's two of mine, spoilered just in case:

From the Records of the Ishtar Collective said:
ESI: Maya, I need your help. I don't know how to fix this.

SUNDARESH: What is it? Chioma. Sit. Tell me.

ESI: I've figured out what's happening inside the specimen.

SUNDARESH: Twelve? The operational Vex platform? That's incredible! You must know what this means - ah, so. It's not good, or you'd be on my side of the desk. And it's not urgent, or you'd already have evacuated the site. Which means...

ESI: I have a working interface with the specimen's internal environment. I can see what it's thinking.

SUNDARESH: In metaphorical terms, of course. The cognitive architectures are so -

ESI: No. I don't need any kind of epistemology bridge.

SUNDARESH: Are you telling me it's human? A human merkwelt? Human qualia?

ESI: I'm telling you it's full of humans. It's thinking about us.

SUNDARESH: About - oh no.

ESI: It's simulating us. Vividly. Elaborately. It's running a spectacularly high-fidelity model of a Collective research team studying a captive Vex entity.

SUNDARESH:...how deep does it go?

ESI: Right now the simulated Maya Sundaresh is meeting with the simulated Chioma Esi to discuss an unexpected problem.

[indistinct sounds]

SUNDARESH: There's no divergence? That's impossible. It doesn't have enough information.

ESI: It inferred. It works from what it sees and it infers the rest. I know that feels unlikely. But it obviously has capabilities we don't. It may have breached our shared virtual workspace...the neural links could have given it data...

SUNDARESH: The simulations have interiority? Subjectivity?

ESI: I can't know that until I look more closely. But they act like us.

SUNDARESH: We're inside it. By any reasonable philosophical standard, we are inside that Vex.

ESI: Unless you take a particularly ruthless approach to the problem of causal forks: yes. They are us.

SUNDARESH: Call a team meeting.

ESI: The other you has too.

From the Records of the Ishtar Collective said:
SUNDARESH: So that's the situation as we know it.

ESI: To the best of my understanding.

SHIM: Well I'll be a [profane] [profanity]. This is extremely [profane]. That thing has us over a barrel.

SUNDARESH: Yeah. We're in a difficult position.

DUANE-MCNIADH: I don't understand. So it's simulating us? It made virtual copies of us? How does that give it power?

ESI: It controls the simulation. It can hurt our simulated selves. We wouldn't feel that pain, but rationally speaking, we have to treat an identical copy's agony as identical to our own.

SUNDARESH: It's god in there. It can simulate our torment. Forever. If we don't let it go, it'll put us through hell.

DUANE-MCNIADH: We have no causal connection to the mind state of those sims. They aren't us. Just copies. We have no obligation to them.

ESI: You can't seriously - your OWN SELF -

SHIM: [profane] idiot. Think. Think. If it can run one simulation, maybe it can run more than one. And there will only ever be one reality. Play the odds.

DUANE-MCNIADH: Oh...uh oh.

SHIM: Odds are that we aren't our own originals. Odds are that we exist in one of the Vex simulations right now.

ESI: I didn't think of that.

SUNDARESH: [indistinct percussive sound]

Yup.

Granted, you can still be one-shotted by the Captain's shotgun or if you get melee'd once.

It is correct. I beat my first at 26, but you will have a much easier time at 27 and correspondingly at 28.

I need some 28+ friends. I'm already there, but everyone else is 27. I'm going to blame them for me not beating it yet.
Slightly kidding.

Just completed the Raid for the first time! Got Atheon's AR and the white shader:

DestinyScreenshot2014-09-2914-04-15.png~original

PSN is greenymac. I also need to do the daily heroic on lvl 28. Im so starved for shards its ridiculous. So much that needs upgrading and all I need is effing shards.

K awesome, 8 void kills left then we can go destroy phogoth and the damm wizard. Hopefully the last 8 kills come easier then the last 92 lol

So... Destiny = Final Fantasy VIII?

It all makes so much sense. The opening of the game was only meant to be for Exo guardians. Bungie had to have known something like this could happen with Activision as their publisher and what happened with studios like IW after MW2.

Still though, I fail to see how cut content would have helped the missions in this game. The game is basically defend dinklebot: the game, so I don't see how more of that sold to us as DLC is going to change anything.

Definitely interested.

so, so, so much cooler than anything in the mainline narrative.

I really hate that they have all this cool story shit hidden away and decided to go the boring generic route for the actual campaign itself. What a waste.

Fucking grimoires, man.

This is fucking amazing. Wow....

aaaaahhhhhhhhh

This, a thousand times this.

Aside from the noted frustration, this also fulfills one of my big peeves with the game: the sci-fi is superficial, at best. It literally feels, in its current state, like a medieval fantasy in sci-fi clothing. No ideas unique to science fiction are explored or even introduced, except through the Grimoire.

I do know that "Super Good Advice" was shown in early presentations last year, so a lot of this story actually DID exist. What the hell happened?

Slightly kidding.

Honestly, I've been doing Nightfall since the first week (I was lvl 25 or 26 when I completed my first). They aren't super hard. Just look up a youtube video of all the cheese spots and take it slow.

Expect 1.5 hours to progress through. Bring at least 10 of each consumable and don't take risks.

If you are with a group, and somebody is stupid enough to take risks; don't revive them. Let them sit there for 20 minutes while you ensure the area is safe enough for a revive.

All mistakes in these things are from people getting too eager to push through. Patience is rewarded here.

JetBlackPanda posted this in the other thread.

If you are level 28 and have the appropriate element gear, you can knock it out in 15-20 minutes.

This is so good! I really need to read some of those cards.

I'm 29 now and things are much easier. But I still take it slow in the nightfall. It's way to infuriating to get put back into orbit. Luckily I have only failed a nightfall once.
