Dear Hawkian,

Here's my three favorite weapons in the game and reasons why I love them so much.

First off, lets us start with my first exotic ever.

The Hawkmoon, Hand Cannon of the Gods

Story time:
I was just a wee little level 21 Titan, hopping about on a dangerous task set forth by Master Ikora. I was set on getting the reward she promised to give me if I complete her tasks, an exotic shotgun known as the Invective. As I completed most of her tasks, I had to spend what little glimmer I had on ammunition for a gun I couldn't yet use. Alas, I had enough for just 12 measly packs, not even close to the goal set forth by the cheapass Gunsmith and Master Ikora. I walked away, head low, heart shattered. Nothing could lift my spirits up. I was a walking corpse for the next several trips to the Moon and Mars. On a trip to Venus, I took a detour by visiting my good old friend in the Nexus. I was giving a warm welcome by my friend's many children. One of them gave me a purple engram as I headed to greet my old friend. Alas, my friend and I had a huge fallout. Things ended rather badly for him. Back in space, I chose to visit the devil known throughout the Milky Way as Rahool. I at the time did not believe the cruel words uttered by so many. I visited the old Master and handed him the gift I got from my old friend's son. I expected nothing out of it. I was rather gloomy at the time. And then it happened. It was as if the Gods themselves descended on to me. I wept as Master Rahool handed me a weapon meant for the hand of Gods. A light shone through the darkness I was in and its name was Hawkmoon.

Gjallarhorn, the Majestic Rocket Launcher

By5LXd1IYAEzI7K.jpg:orig

This beauty came from the corpse of a fellow Guardian during a friendly round of Control that sadly ended in blloodbath. This young man rode in on black and gold Sparrow. He knew defeat was imminent for his young team. Seeing no other choice, he charges me, knowing it was futile. I stood there, my trusty Hawkmoon in hand, contemplating if I should kill him or not. A bullet to my chest made the choice easy for me. Two quick shots was all it took to take the poor soul down. I stood by his side as he took his last breath. He reaches out to me and places a glowing object in my hand. I look down to find it was a purple engram. I thank him for the gift. As soon as the battle was over, I made haste to Master Rahool. At this time, I believe the tales that have been told throughout the galaxy. I glared at him as I slowly handed the parting gift. I was surprised when Rahool came back with the most beautiful rocket launcher my eyes have ever lay upon. I bid him farewell and ran to the balcony where I stared at the Traveler and made a silent prayer to the fallen Guardian.

Praedyth's Revenge, the Sniper Rifle that shall pierce the heavens... or Oracles. Whatevs
By5LRhJIEAEAu6o.jpg:orig

It was a long hard fought battle as my fellow Guardians and I fought the Templar and his minions. One by one did the Vex fell. Oracles exploded left and right. Soon, the big bad himself, the Templar, show its ugly robotic mug. The team of Guardians and I huddle together as the Templar bombarded us. One of us step forth and brought the monster's shield down letting the rest of us finally make a dent on his armor. It was a long hard fought 7 minutes but the Templar came down with ease. I found this beauty deep within the trash heap that was its body. I claimed this weapon as my own.

Edit: I meant to give reasons to why I love them but instead I gave a short story as to how I got them. :P

Attack rating / 10 = LVL of mobs the weapon is 100% effective.

300 atk = 100% effective against mobs up to lvl 30.

277 atk = 100% effective against mobs up to lvl 27.

242 atk = 100% effective against mobs up to lvl 24.

Such and so forth. Light is great on gear for negating incoming damage but you need attack send damage back out.

Hoping to get a few more "Post Your Favorite 3 Items!" responses-

If I can get, say, four more people to answer, I'll compile and do some spreadsheety stuff with these answers and have some interesting data to show you guys!

In case you need more:

Okay, but... where is the evidence? I don't really understand how that person came to this theory.

Sounds reasonable and borderline common sense but I'd like to see some data behind this.

I handled a 28 Heroic daily with a level 25 Hunter using a 242 damage Gallahad-E effectively last night. Head shots work wonders

I'm changing my game plan for tonight a bit based on the patch and whatsuch... when I get home I'd like to:

  1. Nap. mmmm, naps.
  2. Help another 1 or 2 people through the Nightfall. Gotta knock it out early! AkaDemik and PikaPuff get first dibs if they're on, will ask for anyone who needs it in here afterward if they're not around
  3. Do my Weekly Heroic at 28. Will want two to help with that, this one is rough!
  4. Quick Crucible fix
  5. Tiger Strike marathon all night long. Will be recording reward results and probably streaming this.

Watch out for posts about each of the above if you want on my fireteams tonight!

Add me on PSN! Excaliburps (PS4) I literally need help on almost all of those. :(

How's the patch, you guys?

Anyone know how I can get a really good fusion rifle with void damage?

Vanguard selling one with solar damage, trying to find a legendary or exotic with void...

I got FWC legendary fusion rifle with void damage from an engram. No idea if they actually sell it. Got a duplicate from Nightfall yesterday and scrapped it.

Okay, but... where is the evidence? I don't really understand how that person came to this theory.

There is none =P
Not sure how you can effectively test this since the attack power change once you upgrade, increase in damage does make sense.

Maybe one test would be,

Attack a level 26 with 25x weapon
Attack a level 25 with a 25x weapon

Upgrade said weapon to 26x

Attack a level 26 with 26x weapon
Attack a level 25 with a 26x weapon

See difference %

I have a feeling getting one is gonna be strictly random. I wish the ones for sale would switch damage types every week or so...like a stock reset.

Sorry AkaDemik and PikaPuff that we didn't get to crush the Nightfall last night before I went to bed. First time I've gone to bed without a victory for a night! Damn. We were doing okay, but I'm not sure I approve of the cheesy strategy for this week. It's just so much waiting. I think being (relatively) aggressive and doing tons of DPS to the boss from minute one, staying together and prioritizing adds is a better way to handle the fight if everyone has a decent Arc weapon. Everything starts to feel scary to me just hiding in that hole.

If you guys didn't manage to complete it last night I'd like to do it again with you after I get home from work, let me know.
We were behind the wrong boxes. albeit, phase two is still going to be difficult, but phase 1 and 3 should be a lot lot lot easier when at the right cheese spot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpIphx5EuBs

my destiny vanguard tiger results for the night:

6 runs at level 24
average of 2 blue engrams per finish, still found a few drop on the way, sometimes I had more of light, armor and two engrams after a boss.
only saw one legendary purple engram reward and that was from the first strike I was in, went to someone else.

so I would say purple engrams are not that common as a reward but they are in there, going to take a few runs to see one if lucky.

Ticked over last night, feels so good :) Now if the vault would kindly give me some elemental primary weapons I'd be extra pleased :)

Wft did they even patch. I did 6 tiger strike and got noting but blues and then I level up my Cryptach level and guess what got noting but blues.

Ahhh sounds good. Sorry, that was the only spot I'd been shown!

edit: Wow, just watched it. that is cheeeeesy. but effective

48 PAGES SINCE I QUOTED YOUR POST FROM 9 HOURS AGO am i supposed to read all this?! I think OT 7 should be related to how many posts everyone makes in these threads~

edit- does anyone actually read each and every post? what's it like?

Just a quick question.
I just hit level 20 with my second character, but equipping garments with light doesn't raise my bar at all.
It just remains empty. :-/
Any idea what I might have missed or is this a bug or something?

My original warlock is level 24 and now I'm playing with a hunter.

Well, that was a productive queens wrath. Got some nice chest and helm pieces out of it, enough to take my Titan from lv 21 to 24.

Still no sight of the sniper rifle or ship though. Will have to farm it a bit more to see if I can get ether before the event ends.

It's done. It's finally done! Depleted Hand cannon is mine!

So after all that crucible action I can honestly say Warlocks are OP as hell with that bomb. Seriously, when an attack can kill you when you're on the other side of a wall, it needs some fixing.

Now to try that damn strike...ugh
