PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Not really thread worthy but I've had a PS4 for months now (since december) and last night I finally played it after realizing I can plug my headphones in to the controller. Anyways all was going well playing Strider but then I stopped for a bit and browsed the store. While the store was open the resolution suddenly switched to 480p and wouldn't let me switch back in the settings.

Is this common? Is it supposed to do this?

I turned on my PS4 a few weeks ago and for some reason it was in 480. I think it's just a random glitch or something.

It's weird. I restarted the ps4 and everything and it was still locked in 480p. Is it my hdmi cable? Should I buy a better cable? I know monster cables are expensive but would that fix this?

OK with Strider 2, that makes two months in a row with killer PS Classic titles. Capcom still has some key titles in their back catalog of PS classics to put up (Mainly Megaman games).

Namco released a HUGE bunch of PS Classics with their Namco collection this past week. This is probably the largest month of Quality PS Classics released in a long time.

I have two questions, do we think this trend will continue with long wanted PS classics finally coming out?

And the second question, is this push being done to drive PS Classics sales prior to the launch of PS TV (or more optimistically PS4 compatibility with PS1 digital titles)?

Hm. That is weird. I don't think switching HDMI brands would fix it (I still use the default cable that came with the PS4). Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with this type of stuff.

can anyone give me some tips on how to beat the last battle in Valkyria Chronicles 1?

I can get to the point where the boss retreats and down to about 1/4 life, but can't make any progress past that...

thanks

I followed a youtube video for that. Just youtube the final mission being S-ranked and do what that player did.

Throw a smoke bomb at the boss and send shocktroopers to combo-shoot him to death.

Also Flightmare, can I add a timezone field on the list?
edit: I'm pretty sure it'd be filled with "lewd" as UTC info, but oh well.
edit2: took whole 3 seconds to become "lewdzone"!

No, save your money for Soul Sacrifice Delta.

Edit: There is a PS3 demo for ROA that you can try out. Or you can download the RO (vanilla) demo on the Vita, since the core gameplay didn't change too much.

Oh balls, I forgot there was a demo of the original. Cheers! I'll check that out tonight.

I bought Futuridium. It's Ok but I don't know what I was expecting. I should stop buying indie games just because.

After a quick search around, seems like both the original Ragnarok Odyssey and the demo for it have been pulled from European PSN. Geez.

At least there's a demo for Ace on here for me to check out.

Are there people playing Wipeout 2048 online? It is nearly impossible for me to find players, so the online event campaign is unavailable for me... damn, I like this game a lot, but I feel like those 2gb could be for something else if I can only play half of it

Less than a year ago there still was some people. I hope it hasn't been abandoned...

I guess it was smart to get the online trophies before starting the campaign (which I've yet to do, doh)

I just downloaded Mincraft on PS4 for free. Last year i purchased the PS3 version but never baught it on PS4. Shoudnt it cost 4,99€ (i'm from germany)?

BreakQuest extra evolution Pro is dreadful. 'Infinite balls' actually means 'five' and when those five are gone it resets your level progression and gives you five balls back. So it's petty much unplayable for me. Such a waste of money.

Why the hell would they reset your level progression? What's Pro about that?

Welp, after 20 minutes waiting for the four player needed. One stayed the whole time. One stayed 5 minutes and gone. No one else came in. So yeah, it looks like a ghost town, sadly :/

I think I'll have to use those 2gb to try other game since I already beated the main campaign. My card is 8gb so the space is really expensive..

Last night I finally gave in and bought Project Diva f on Vita. I guess that means it'll go on sale any week now? Last time I brought it up, someone linked me to a post from a SEGA employee that said not to expect any kind of sale on it at all but still, I really hope buying it this close to the sequel's release wasn't a mistake.

At least the game is a lot of fun so far. I'm not crazy about the music (some of the songs are kinda catchy but it's really not my kind of music) but I love rhythm games and the gameplay is just so good. I actually had the demo on my Vita for a couple months and kept going back to it.

Tadaaa!

Now I need someone to post the combo "You got a Vita" and "You got a 64GB MC" for me, I need them.

Also, I need some help to transfer everything from my 32GB to my 64GB and from my OLED Vita to my new Vita. Which one should I do? In which order? How do I do it?

How much did this cost you? I might end up doing the same.

Damn man, very nice. Some good gaming ahead of you.. Need to pick up a 64 gig myself. You'd think by now that Sony would release bigger capacity cards since they're probably making a decent penny off them.. I could already see the 64 running out of space..

Ok, so I don't understand the Natural Doctrine haters at all.

This game is awesome. I'm fairly early in, but so far it's everything I wanted to be. All I can guess at is that some people don't understand the combat system, but I picked it right up and have never read anything on it.

And for the record, I'm playing on lethal and am having no issues.

Combat is very tactical.

A somewhat simplified description of combat:

1) On your turn, you can move freely within zones and attack within range. Most attacks allow for chaining if you meet certain conditions (ie, 'attack same target'). Your units auto-attack other enemies in a zone if the first dies.

2) As you set up attacks, your position matters. First, your distance from other characters affects your bonuses. Second, characters with guns need line of sight to avoid friendly fire. And in some cases, there is a 'Valkyria Chronicles' style sniping of enemies that cross your gunners' vision.

3) A character in a chain can 'reserve' a turn (not move) to allow for turn linking.

4) Initiative switches teams every 'turn'... unless you kill the next enemy up and have someone with initiative ready to go.

SOOO... putting that together, what this means is you'll want to chain attacks and make sure to kill the enemy that's supposed to take a turn next. Leave someone in reserve, and bam, you link a turn (which in practice is no more complicated than in any other SRPG that shows turn queues - kill the enemies going next to avoid getting hit more).

The reason it 'feels' harder is that enemies are also smart enough to chain attacks, so if you're not careful, you can get hit with a piles of chained attacks on the enemies turn. This is usually a result of over extending.

However, careful advancing and defensive posturing prevents this. For example, if you're not in position for a full fledged attack, rather than stretching thin you should go defensive -- something like, have one character guard your gunner (preventing them from being sniped but allowing for cover fire), have another character in the frontmost zone 'guarding'... and the enemy will be unable to do much damage to you and you'll be able to counter effectively.

You are able to 'undo' all your moves before you set it into action, which is nice. There are lots of special skills that work well together -- for example, you can break someone's guard with one character to open him up for attacks with another.

There are also checkpoints within dungeons so if you do die, you don't need to start from the beginning.

Graphics -- i don't understand the complaints. It's no killzone but it's perfectly viable for a srpg. you aren't buying this game for the graphics, so don't let them stop you from buying it either.

-------

Honestly, this game is awesome. I'll report back later to see if it suddenly ramps up in difficultly or something, but again, I'm playing on 'lethal' (harder than 'hard') and am not having issues.

If you're on the fence and like tactical games, my early review is that I highly recommend this. I'm playing the vita version.

Why is the digital Vita version of Sengoku Musou Chronicle 3 6000 yen (pre-tax) and the digital 3DS one only 5200 yen (also pre-tax)?

Is it the price for having more cannonfodder enemies on screen?
