Soooo I've hit level 20 and I've finished the story.

Now what do I do?

I'm at the same point. I feel "stuck." Every piece of blue gear I get from the Crucible has lower light than the stuff I already have equipped. I can't get to level 21. Apparently, to buy Legendary gear from vendors, I need to be Crucible Level 2. After a few hours in the Crucible, I haven't even reached level 1 yet.

So, do I do strikes? I feel like I'm still do low of a level to do some of these other strike playlists that reward better things.

I just have no idea what I should be doing.

Is that the only way ?

Do the daily story missions. depending on the difficulty you can get 1 or 2 shards (could be energy too though).

Do the weekly/nightfall strike. You can get some mad shards from there or get legendary items you can dismantle for shards.

Do the raid, you can find tons of shards there.

Do your daily public gold tier event and have a chance of shards from both it and your reward letter.

Do chest runs and hope you find them haha.

Use vanguard/crucible marks to buy legendary armor (NOT class items!) to dismantle for shards.

Uh, did i forget anything?

How do I get ass shards?

-Do Lv 28 Daily every day. You get either 2 shards or 2 energies.

-Do at least one Gold tier Public Event each day (ideally on all 3 characters). You get mail that can have a shard, energy, mote, or strange coin. The events themselves also have a chance to drop 1-2 ascendant materials although I've had a low percentage of success with that.

-Dismantle legendary or exotic gear (except shitty Queen's "legendary" gear). Once you get raid/exotic armor you really don't need any normal legendary armor. Feel free to spend your Vanguard and Crucible marks to buy gear just for this, or gear you get from Engrams. You can even use your Strange coins/Motes at Xur for dismantling gear if you

-Random drops in Crucible, from Nightfall, Weekly Heroic, etc.

-Random Engram decryption from the Cryptarch. The patch "upgraded" ascendant material to legendary level, so your best bet is with purple engrams.

-Mail from leveling up the Cryptarch or the Factions rep levels might give some.

-Raid drops very commonly give shards and energies.

Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.

I paid my $90 and leveled a character to 27, which is where I hit the PVP wall, so I reserve the right to have an opinion about the game...and express it in this here relevant thread. Nobody is "shitting" on your game.

What characters? 25 of them, not including primes, with mods making for a far more interesting skill tree

What powers? 4 unique powers each, 100 total, emphasized at your discretion with mods.

What modes? Exterminate, Capture, Rescue, Interception, Spy, Defense, Mobile Defense, Excavation, Assassinate, Deception, Derilect Vaults, Nightmare, Quests...probably forgetting a few.

What PvP wall? PvP is almost an afterthought in the game, given the balance and Vex LOL Mythoclast.

The game is co-op / PvE focused.

I was 2 light away from Level 28. Used 6 ascendant shards and 16 planetary materials - this takes a while to accumulate - and received a +1 Light upgrade. The grind is real :(

I now need 6 more ascendant shards in order to finally make the jump to 28.

Have you not been doing vanguard/crucible bounties at all? they give you rep and are basically what you are supposed to do daily while you level up to have lots of rep when you reach 20

Well I have no idea how you really got that impression, especially my friend who i basically play the game with 90% of the time will tell you that he never plays PvP at all and he is lvl 29 and about to start the raid with me.
I myself only really spend time in PvP like once a day to get my XP bonus and I got my Bad Juju from playing Rumble for two days.

Now looking at my stats on Bungie.net though:
I have a total of 2d 23h played. Out of that I spent 7h 25m in the crucible.
I would hardly say that's a lot of PvP time in comparison to the rest I have done.

Literally everything I want right now seems to require some PVP to get.

I basically just think they should reward both equally with the same "currency". You can even give more of that currency for PVP, but don't lock people out or make them trade precious resources for PVP currency.

Is that the only way ?

You can get them by:

Decrypting Engrams

Completing Daily Heroic story mission - Level 28 nets you 2 Ascendant Materials, the level below nets you one. It's random an can either be Ascendant Shards or Ascendant Energy

Completing you first Public Event and getting gold each day. If you do this there will be a package at the tower Postmaster with material rewards - can either be shards or energy. You also have a chance at receiving either a shard or energy for each subsequent public event you clear on gold each day, if you get one it will be awarded on the spot and not at the postmaster.

Dismantle Legendary and Exotic equipment - dismantling equipment will get you shards while dismantling Legendary/Exotic weapons will get you energy

Raid - if you complete the Raid and get all chests you will most likely leave with 10+ ascendant materials.

Run the Raid, you'll get nothing else.

No, I will not /salt.

Yeah that's super frustrating. I wish they'd have categorised drops:

- Ascendant materials or Raid gear (weapon) for Templar phase 2.
- Raid gear (weapon or armour) for killing Templar.
- Raid gear (weapon or armour) + Shader OR Ship for killing Atheon.
- Ascendant materials for chests.

Bounties are crucial. By far the best way to level up rep.

You can do strike playlists but especially at Lv 20 the ratio of rep to time spent is going to be pretty shitty compared to bounties.

Okay cool, well feel free to add me :) Raiding tonight but then I'm free to help!

Will do. I've got a rl friend who mains a level 27 titan who might join as well, but if anyone else is up for taking a shot at xyor, they're more than welcome and I'de be very greatfull for the help.

Thanks to everyone in the thread posting advice, will try the elevated rock method.

Last night we didn't even get past the first wave at the door decryption though.
I'm not really a shooter player.

Many of the powers are just the same thing in different shades of "press to kill the room". There is very little synergy or team play involved at all.

The modes are varied at a glance, but you spend the vast majority of the time in every mode shooting stuff and spamming powers and the combat is (imo) too mindless to sustain it.

Warframe has great atmosphere, some beautiful art design, and its lore is quite unique, but the core combat that makes up the brunt of everything doesn't support it.

It does do a lot of things better than Destiny with social options and features, but it's been updated many times and Destiny has only just been released.

Ahhh, I see now, your argument is based around Crucible Marks.

Well, most of that gear is just decent. The raid stuff is better than anything you can get with crucible marks. In addition, the vendor gear comes in only the quality / perks that are shown. Any drops can have different stats / perks.

The Crucible marks are there to allow people to gear up without doing PvE. If anything, it's a handout and will not currently match what PvE people can do.

Iron Banner is currently a pure PvP'ers only hope.

What does this mean?

It's a hard mode raid drop. A fusion rifle that is so completely broken in PvP .... like, it's been a LONG time since I've seen such a broken PvP weapon. It's a fusion rifle with an AR rate of fire and it hits harder than any AR I've seen.

What do people think about Universal Remote? I got it from a raid chest last night. I haven't really used shotguns since the beginning of the game and don't do PvP.

I wish there was an option to exchange raid loot for like 10 MoL or something.

I've had it for a while and almost fully upgraded it. As a primary it's not great for PVE as you need to get in quite close. I've only managed a few low level strikes with it before getting owned by adds.

For PVP it starts off quite limited as the range isn't very good at all, but once you get the "universal remote" upgrade to increase range and damage when ADS it becomes a very viable weapon. Great for shotgun users as you can have 2 equipped at once.

What does this mean?

There is a weapon you can get from the hard mode raid, the Vex Mythoclast. A primary fusion rifle. No idea how many people have it,probably like 0,01% of the entire playerbase.

It is very OP right now and basically kills people in a second or so.

That would have been so nice.

So far all I've got from hard mode is ass energy. I won't be happy if that's all I get from killing Aethon.

No.

But may get tweaked by Bungie at some point should they want to I guess, I myself haven't done it due to laziness.

It's just taking advantage of zone instancing anyways. Only way they could stop it is to move chest locations.

It's inferior to knowing all the chest locations.

And the last straw...

Last night I realized that all three factions take Crucible Marks for payment. So, if you play multiplayer, you have four legendary gun vendors at your disposal. Fucking four. But if you only play coop or single player, you only have one legendary gun vendor (and only if you preordered). Combine that with my one exotic bounty, which requires a +500 K/D in PVP with a specific element, and I'm done.

The pve legendary vendor is available to all. The preorder bonus are the green weapons he sells.

What's the point of doing infinite spin metal when the loop has them respawning plus chests? I think it's just as quick.

Ahhh, I see now, your argument is based around Crucible Marks.

I have MANY other problems with the game, but yes, that is my current frustration...along with the Thorn bounty.

This is reassuring. Thanks.

Sounds fun. All the more reason to avoid PVP. :)

All the best armor and weapons come from Xur and the raid.

Anything that requires PvP is going to be lower quality. Of course you can get random exotic drops but that's a separate issue. But I definitely agree about a shared currency, or if the mark cap was 200 of Vanguard+Crucible so you weren't forced into PvP to max your weekly marks.

Tonight I will bring Rahool a few blue engrams, and he in turn will give me the present he gives for level 50.

What will it be? A fine gift commensurate with reaching that high a level, or just giving me back my blues?

I think we all know the answer to this. :)

Don't judge an exotic until you fully upgrade it, just sayin

Yeah this.

Everyone is quick to bitch and complain about exotics before even getting to their first unique upgrade.

For example, the Bad JuJu.

When you unlock the auto-reload feature, you can see how making it have more impact and/or making the clip larger can make this gun broken as hell.

Don't mind me, I'm just going to keep shooting and never have to reload.

That feel when you get the raid gauntlets, chestpiece, and legs when you have already RE'd your one exotic helmet and own maxed out exotic gauntlets.

Bungie, you crafty motherfuckers.

Same place everytime is really the only advantage, otherwise you're right, chest loops are better

Yeah, the only thing that happen from this is Bungie adjust chest runs and making it worse for us all. Just from the attention it brings.

Glimmer Max out at 250000? What the hell bungie!?

Yeah, unfortunately - but just buy some ammo and such. Glimmer is relatively useless anyway.

I have MANY other problems with the game, but yes, that is my current frustration...along with the Thorn bounty.

This is reassuring. Thanks.

HAH. Hopefully, they do something to fix Mythoclast. I have no idea what, though, because then the pure PvE'r will rage. It's OP for PvE though, too, so whatever.

As for Thorn....actually, I agree, the PvP part is dumb. I'm on that part, too :). And I like PvP!

That would have been so nice.

So far all I've got from hard mode is ass energy. I won't be happy if that's all I get from killing Aethon.

I did hard mode last week and this week and the most interesting drop was a raid helmet (I already have maxed exotic helm).

Only weapon drops were repeats from normal mode. I got 3 Vision of Confluence for crying out loud. Only 1 guy out of 12 over the two weeks got the primary fusion rifle.

Fastest way to level exotic weapons? Need full auto for pocket and stability for hard light

You can only do one at a time, but make sure the Exotic you want leveled is equipped when you turn in bounties. Also make sure you do the Nightfall as early as possible each week for the XP boost.

Have you not been doing vanguard/crucible bounties at all? they give you rep and are basically what you are supposed to do daily while you level up to have lots of rep when you reach 20

I have. More Vanguard than Crucible (I'm not huge on PVP), but I would load up on 1-3 Vanguard bounties before setting out on story missions. Still not even close to the next level. I guess I should be clearing 3-4 a day?

Bounties are crucial. By far the best way to level up rep.

You can do strike playlists but especially at Lv 20 the ratio of rep to time spent is going to be pretty shitty compared to bounties.

Ok. So right now, bounties on Patrol seem to be my best best? Then when I eventually hit 22ish, do the strikes?
