Can I ask how you got so many shards?

Disassembling gear? Farming events?

I do the daily mission every day on lvl 28 for +2.
I do a daily public event every day for the mail that contains them.
I do the raid every week.
I do the nightfall every week.
I do the weekly heroic every week.
I get them from engram's.
I get them from dismantling gear I buy with crucible and vanguard marks.
I get them from dismantling gear I find that I wont use.

Yep, I passed on the suros which was incredibly hard to do. Sitting on 35 coins and 58 motes. Waiting on the ice breaker. That's it. Not spending any of it until Xur brings it, or at least, I will always keep 23 coins minimum for it.

If I can pass on the suros, I can pass on anything except the ice breaker.

I'm on the fence about the Ice Breaker.

Yeah it regens its own ammo. But it only holds 6 shots.

I have two purple snipers that deal 300 damage. One of them causes the enemy to EXPLODE on precision kill.

And they both hold 24 rounds in total.

So while you are waiting for your sniper to regen ammo. I've dished out 24 sniper rounds.

I was thinking about this last night. My alt titan has a legendary helmet and I got one from an engram. I didn't even really bother looking at it because all legendary (non-raid) armor are basically interchangeable.

This problem could have been avoid if they allowed you to equip muti. exotic

Yep. I got Praedyth's Revenge (legendary sniper) and Found Verdict (legendary shotgun) both from the raid. Also got Corrective Measure (legendary HMG) as well for the heavy slot.

Not sure what else the raid offers. Maybe a rocket launcher?

Damn! I'm still trying to find time to get people past the first boss lol. Fuck being old with a 9-5 and playing with other old guys with 9-5s haha.

All legendaries have the same "budget" except for raid legendaries. Your Queen's chest is equivalent to, say, a Vanguard chest in terms of what it can have on it (including hitting 27 Light).

I wouldn't really consider saving shards for armor until you are comfortably into 28. Hitting 28 is more important than hitting 29 or 30 unless you're super interested in trying to be top dog in Iron Banner or plan on doing hard mode VoG. Hitting 28 though will put you on even ground in Nightfall and the second VoG encounter in normal, which is a big advantage in those two runs.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's better to be 28 than 26-27 and saving your shards for raid loot you don't know when you'll have.

Absolutely this. Don't hoard shards waiting for end-game gear. I did my first raid at 27 and since then at 28, and it's a very noticeable difference in both the raid and nightfalls.

So did I essentially waste important resources upgrading my lower quality legendaries?

Maybe.

You can hit level 27 by upgrading four legendary armor pieces up until the last column, without any ascendant shard usage. That will give you 4 x 22 = 88 light.

Getting to level 28 and above requires you to upgrade with shards. Ideally you'd find a piece of exotic armor, and upgrade that to 30 light, and then upgrade one more piece of legendary armor enough to get you to 28.

Getting to 30 requires you to replace your three legendary armor pieces with raid legendary armor pieces, so in the long run, any shards you put into non-legendary raid pieces would be wasted.

I'm still shaken that I blew myself up with the rocket launcher on the boss in the Nightfall when he only had a sliver left...after an hour of grinding away solo. Not only that, but I'm a damn sunsinger with self rez and I got greedy and just couldn't wait for it to regen...

Question - as a level 27 how nerfed am I in the nightfall? Should I wait until hopefully hitting level 28 on friday?

Eh, a few of those dont apply to me:/ I tried asking for help on RaidGAF last night for VoG or Nightfall and didnt get one response. Not one.

Must've pissed off the whole forum simultaneously:(

Yeah I have the praedyth's revenge sniper that combusts enemies with headshots. And I never run out of ammo b/c I have a billion ammo synths, but you have to wait like 97 hours for the cooldown to finish. If you're steady with the IB, you never run out of ammo.

It makes soloing some of the hardest difficulty stuff possible (or easier at least) b/c you can just hide and bang, bang, bang, bang... never move. Boring, but doable.

Damn! I'm still trying to find time to get people past the first boss lol. Fuck being old with a 9-5 and playing with other old guys with 9-5s haha.
Should play with us then. I work all day and I believe everyone in our raid group does too. We run raids at night. Have them down to under 2 hours easily each time. Xbox tho.

Not allowing us to equip more than 1 exotic was one of the best moves Bungie made. It means all those legendary guns/armor are still useful. I like having to decide which gun to use where.

I have the raid launcher: Hezen Vengeance

This game in general doesn't have that much gear.

Most of the high level hunter that I have seen wear the same stuff.

Well there is only so much optimal stuff right now.

I have dead orbit boots, vanguard chest, raid gloves, exotic helmet from xur.

I am pretty sure there are 2 cosmetic variants to raid gear per class or is that false?

Eventually there will be other raids/events with unique high level gear too.

Use destinylfg website or just add some groups in the Destiny app. I actually get most of my groups from the reddit group through the app.

Guns sure but most legendary amours are the fucking same while exotic have different skills on them.

Fuck lol, would have been perfect! I'm in over30clan (plenty of people) but there are only maybe 9 PS4 people anywhere near raiding.

I need to find some of you PS4 raiders who are on similar after 9-5 work and weekend schedules.

I've also got a couple legendary snipers (a Vanguard one and a New Monarchy one) as well as Patience and Time, and Ice Breaker dumps all over them for PvE. The regeneration rate is enough that you can pop 8-9 shots before needing to swap, which is generally more than you ever need to send off before swapping out. In exchange for not being able to ever dump 10+ rounds at once (which is not a common opportunity IMO) you don't ever have to reload or pick up ammo.

I had all of those other snipers before getting Ice Breaker and up until then didn't even care much for the entire weapon type, but Ice Breaker has become one of my most used weapons. Worth its weight in gold when it comes to VoG especially.

I'll check that out. I remember going there when the game came out and never got results. It was either faulty, or wasn't populated enough at that point.

Yeah what happens when you run out of ammo and your synth is on cool down and I am still plugging away with the ICE BREAKER regening a round every 2-3 seconds?

It regens when I switch out other weapons as well. I usually

1. empty ice breaker
2. fire any rockets I have
3. back to ice breaker
4. empty primary mag
5. back to icebreaker

/repeat

while you are running around getting killed trying to pick up ammo.

Did the upgrades make the heroic weekly/nightfall/whatever easier?

Did you have fun?

Are you going to get stabbed if you don't reach level 30 in two weeks even though expansions not for a few months?

You're fine.

I would use a rare primary gun if it meant I have an Ice Breaker. Regenerating ammo is so f'ing boss.

Did the raid again last night, this time with a nearly fully upgraded Shadow Price AR. Mowed down anything. This is definitely my go-to weapon and I have a Suros. It allows me to keep Ice Breaker equipped.

Oh God. Just checked it out on your profile... 3 rounds in the tube and exploding projectiles? Shiiiiiiit. I want that.

It's really good. Blast radius is maxed. The extra rocket is amazing in pvp and the cluster explosion catches people unaware all the time.

Great for cc in pve, too.

In The Old Republic, we currently have commendations. There are Elite Commendations and Ultimate Commendations.

You get most Elite Commendations from doing Flashpoints. You can get a certain amount a week and Flashpoints are the equivalent to Destiny's Strikes. They have a limit of 500 a week I think, but the most you can hold is about 1000.

These Elite Commendations are used to buy gear that improves your stats enough to take on most of the older Operations in most difficulties. Operations are raids in TOR.

You get Ultimate Commendations from Operations. Ultimate Commendations have a weekly limit as well of about 200 or so. The max amount of Ultimate Commendations anyone can hold is about 750.

Ultiamte Commendations allow you to buy higher tier gear to do the more difficult raids.

The gear you buy from both commendations, while giving you good enough stats to do raids, aren't optimized like the gear purchased with Unassembled Pieces dropped from raid bosses. Also, they lack set bonuses. For folks unoriented in MMO dialogue in this thread, imagine there was a set of gear you could get for your Warlock for example. If you had two pieces of this armor, you'll unlock the ability to float longer in Glide. If you had four pieces, you'll also unlock the ability to blink while gliding. Set bonuses give benefits like this (though from my experience, they're not as awesome as gliding and blinking lol). Also, the stats for gear you purcahse with Unassembled Pieces are optimized (think of these like a token you just need one of to exchange for gear).

A boss in an Operation drops an Unassembled Dread Master Headpiece for example. Dread Master gear is the highest quality endgame gear at the moment. The Operation leader determines how the loot is distributed. Normally, people do a dice roll and whoever gets the highest number wins the loot.

The winner of this loot takes this Unassembled Dread Master Headpiece to a vendor who holds all the best endgame gear in the game. The winner can pick between two or three helmets for their character, depending on how they play their character. An example of this would be for the Jedi Shadow, which can be a tank or a DPS. A Jedi Shadow's helmet would either focus on stats leaning toward defense or stats leaning toward powerful attack. With an Unassembled Dread Master Headpiece, the player has a choice in picking which piece of gear is best for them.

Another thing I'd like to mention is that the gear you buy from Elite and Ultimate commendations drops randomly from raid bosses, so if you're lucky, you don't even need to spend commendations. However, the Unassembled Pieces are always guaranteed. It's just a matter of figuring out which boss drops what piece.

This might be kind of lengthy, but I figured I'd try to spell out how a successful endgame loot system works. I wish I knew how WoW's works, but since TOR is literally WoW with lightsabers, I can't imagine it being so different.

RNG has a place, but I don't think RNG shouldn't be the only way to get gear from Destiny's raids. Despite this, a way to work with this would be to have a timed trade system implemented where once someone gets loot in a Fireteam within a Raid or Strike, people have a limited amount of time to trade loot with the people within the Fireteam. Games that implement this I've played have the time limit set to over an hour to about three or four. Once the time limit has been reached, the loot is bound to the player and cannot be traded.

With how Destiny currently works with RNG drops, you'd think such a system would at least exist.

I didn't even know RaidGAF was a thing. When did this come about? Joined now as I was also having some bother getting people together for Nightfall and VOG.

There's a Raid Scout Rifle which has Thermal. I got two from two raids.

Maybe.

Thanks for the info. Very handy information going forward.

Ah got it. I have yet to do a Nightfall and I'm trying to get a regular raid group going.

Woah shit, full auto Vision of Confluence scout rifle is brilliant. I can't imagine how powerful it is when 100% upgraded.

Edit: Blue engrams in strikes are dropping so much now, in the matter of 5 seconds 3 blue dropped right in front of me after killing a group. we will all benefit from this when it comes to leveling up at the Cryptarch.

I didn't even know RaidGAF was a thing. When did this come about? Joined now as I was also having some bother getting people together for Nightfall and VOG.

I randomly ran into a RaidGAF member in PvP. He was on the opposing team. I got killed. a lot. probably my worst crucible match on record.

I asked this last night but I don't believe I got a response, but on the subject of light and armor, what is the light upgrade sequence for normal Legendary gear?

Is it +2, 2, 1, 2, 2 for each Defense upgrade or something different? Where is the +1 in the upgrades?

Are there any benefits to running the VOG more than once a week if it's on the same difficulty?

I only got Shards the first time through.

The +1 is the first defense upgrade in the final column on all slots.

What if there were level 40 raids where the only way to enter them was to have exotics for every slot(i.e. This specific level-40 raid would all multiple exotics to be equipped at once)

So make it so that you will get match with other people with the same gear or lv.

Sure, but PvP is already a clusterfuck with exotics and supers as it is. Having 4 armors on everybody would make it a mess IMO. I think Bungie made the right decision limiting it to one piece.
