How do they even make money? I don't get it.

Well according to a recent interview:

It does really well for them there, and it does really well for them online — digital downloads, streaming, DVD and Blu-ray
because our show does very well online. Huge numbers. The biggest event on Nick.com for all of last year was the Book 2 finale. It was giant. It was bigger online than it was on TV

So guess that's good enough for them considering there's almost no merchandise for the show.

Rushed through seasons 1-3 in a couple weeks so I could get here in time.

Season 1 is bad
Season 2 is terrible (apart from those 2 episodes in the past which were good)
Season 3 is OK at best

Season 4 - episode 1

Avatar is a kid's show primarily and this further shows itself here. Continuing with the tradition of the previous seasons there is no sense of nuance or a consideration of the world but rather a rushed boxing in of characters. It doesn't take a genius to work out who will be a bad guy this season the show doesn't at all consider anything that counters it's ideals. The show is already setting up stupid battle lines where Kuviera will be expected to hand over everything to an idiot, just because. And in case that isn't enough they're already showing her in a negative light so I'm sure that she will turn out to be stupidly evil just like all the other enemies. Subjugation for protection is the way the world works. The new prince is as dumb as Bolin but it's clear that the show wants us to think of him in a worse manner for some reason. I don't know the attraction with having this type of character, I've seen spoilt rich kids and whilst they have their quirks, flanderising it like this isn't necessary.

Korra as the Avatar completely ruins the whole point of the role. Avatar's bring balance via FORCE - Roku didn't kindly ask Souzen to stop dicking around, he made him. That Kiyoshi woman avatar split the goddamn continent. Korra now is losing to random mooks. I understand that they want us to show her broken down from her acts of stupidity last season but that is no reason to make her a terrible bender. If little kids can be great benders she has no excuse.

I know it sounds like a lot of complaining but Avatar is stuck in this void, where it wants to deal with more complex matters but feels extremely held back by it's trappings as a show for kids. I don't dislike it per se but am rather disappointed at the amazing world they have that has been consistently broken down by the necessity to build up a new bad guy every season which means that everyone has to hold the idiot ball and power levels become wildly inconsistent just to allow the enemy to become a huge threat and then they pull something out to defeat them at the last second.

I think they tried to age with their audience as it grew up for mixed results.
The kid actors in ATLA were spectacular and gave very genuine performances.
Getting a bunch of VA's and veteran actors for Korra made it seem more like a sitcom.

Oh nice.

I don't like Kuviras voice, she sounds so old and clashing with her looks she already smells evil, but she has a point and a reason. Without her the Earth Kingdom would be really in shambles, Prince Wu is certainly not able to rally the states of the Kingdom behind himself. Good episode overall.
My chances of evil Opal have shrunk, but I will stand by my word. Didn't even attempted to help Kai defending the goods. As if the bison couldn't work without her, which it did seconds after. Also she is evil.

I liked the ending shot. "I wouldn't know". Amazing.

Also: Coronation sounds awfully like Korra Nation, doesn't it? :D

They sell the pain of the fans.

haha yep can't stop hearing Korra Nation also.
The pain of fans is what keeps the Nick heads young and rejuvenated if they stopped they would whither away.

Really enjoyed the first episode, lots of stuff happening and it honestly felt longer than 22 minutes.

Book 4's off to a good start

ALREADY?

Episode 1 was great, I feel so terrible this is the last season. I bought the episode on amazon and ran the stream in the background.

Kuvira is boss as fuck, love her design and love the new look korra has.

Really enjoyed the opener, I hope they keep uploading them early, then I can keep watching them on my lunch break.

Well Amazon and itunes are pretty much guaranteed to keep putting them out early but with Nick its up in the air as it depends on when the person feels like releasing them as its done manually with Nick.
Hopefully they keep up with the early episodes at nick though.

I'm in the UK. What do?
Hola

Awesome episode.

In the opening scene, with the Korra statue, and the spirit wilds, the people of republic city seemed to be grateful. But it still didn't sell it for me. I still had the feeling that Korra's a hotheaded brat, who didn't really earn the praise she's getting here. Like she didn't work for it. How pleasantly surpised I was by the ending, and you actually see Korra putting in some work. Miight retroactively make her more likeable.

Extremely good.

We've got
Depressed Korra now
. I'm guessing the mercury from last season has weakened her skills and she's not as strong as before.

Just watched the first episode. Yeah, it was alright. Did well to set up the set of problems they have to deal with this season.
Yeah. Kuvira's totally the bad guy but I expect someone else to come out as an even bigger threat.

Looks like it considering its been three years now since the fight with Red Lotus. Plus also the fact that i'm guessing she's still struggling at finding her place in the world as the avatar with the air nation now doing quite a few of her responsibilities.

Episode was great!

I really liked the Earth Prince he was such a snob it was outright hilarious.

So... what happened to the Metal Clan 3 years ago? Opal was pretty pissed.

Also love Korra's new look and it seems like shes training and trying to get back to being as strong as she was.

A better way of masking herself than what Korra is doing. The shorter hair isn't cutting it.

So far I'm liking the episode but I'll rewatch it later today because there are certain things I'm curious about.

I'm wondering where they are going with the contrasts of Kuvira and the Prince. Both are fairly opposite ends of abuse of power so I'm wondering if both of them will be the major villains instead of Kuvira and some other unknown threat.

That was a fantastic opener.

Holy crap at
Kuvira, looks to be a really great villain. Her bending and skills, wow.

Count me hyped for S4.

Impressions:

Kuvira seems intimidating so far, and she's obviously skilled. The fiance thing surprised me but it's probably a cover for the RED LOTUS or something. Or if not, maybe Korra will get Zaheer's help to defeat her since he's all about no order? Liking her so far, that scene with the train was badass. Wonder what happened '3 years ago'.

The relationship stuff better not take a chunk out of this season, but for once I'm glad it's not Mako-related.

Kai really should have been a part of Team Avatar from the beginning, ugh.

MEELO THE MAN, that was hilarious!

Maybe Kuvira's goal is world domination? It's been beaten to death so much that I wasn't even considering it but if they go that route I hope it's done somewhat differently to TLA. Lots of similarities to the Fire Nation/Sozin.

Korra's had enough of being the avatar, so somethings gotta snap her back in. From the trailer we know that she ends up in a swamp so maybe she sees something there ala Aang?

Overall great episode, can't wait to see more.

Alrightie. A good start.

-Glad to see the Earth Kingdom revolution was not swept under the rug. Kuvira being placed in charge was a solid explanation. That she somehow achieved so much power without anyone stopping her is surprising, but I guess not unbelievable.

-Wu was annoying to watch. He made the episode worse, and its surprising that there are people that actually want him on the throne. But... its clear he isn't getting anywhere near the throne. I wonder if we will see him develop into a non-little shit, or if he will just be tossed aside for a democracy by the end.

-Air nomads being spread thin is reasonable, glad to see they are sticking to what they intended. I still think the white lotus not doing things is a bit of a plot hole but they kind of explained that away last season as them just being glorified body guards.

-While the earth kingdom plot line is being continued, it appears as though the spirit vines plotline has been swept under the rug. Disappointing, but the end result looks interesting. It can be explained away by the three year time gap, but I wish they had spent some more time on it. Maybe they will, but I doubt it.

-Kuvira is a badass, though she seems a lot meaner than the last time we saw her. I wonder what the incident was.

-The guy at the end asking "What ever happened to her, anyways" and Korra saying "I wouldn't know." was a nice interaction. Interested to see how it plays out.

I wouldn't say perfect, but it's definitely good. It'll grow on me I think, Zaheer's was the same deal.

Like with Aubrey Plaza, Zaheer didn't grow on me so much as the voice actor got better over time. Or maybe it was a combo of both for Zaheer (Aubrey Plaza was just plain bad at first)

I rewatched season 3 the other day and Zaheer's voice still sounded a bit off when he was introduced, but in later episodes it wasn't really an issue.

I'm not ready to dismiss Prince Wu yet.

It's possible the producers are setting up 2 types of villains. Kuvira who represents military dictatorships and what can happen when the military is seeing themselves as above the non-military. Wu could represent the selfish elite who know how to play politics. They know how to rig social structures so Mako the people can serve them.

Though this show thrives on solving things through force instead of the threat of it so the possibility is low.

It seems kinda odd that no one in power is put off Kuvira's unification plan all things considered. Her plan is so obviously nefarious. I would at least think Opal would have tried to get Bolin out of it, but he seems to be yet again working for the antagonist for the season. I can appreciate how the world has come full circle for the entire series in a way with the one group of benders vying for dominance again but I'm curious as to what they'll do to make it stand out or if it's just in the background for Korra's journey.

Also, the last scene with Korra in an underground fight club is what I expected out of probending when they first talking about. Obviously not as raw but involving more than just shooting elements around. Guess there will be more flashbacks to explain how she got there but I like that this is a solo journey where she is literally fighting to regain what she's lost.

Wu isnt as bad as i thought just for making Mako miserable.

We still going with this? Mako is fine now. People may shit on season 2, but I'm pretty happy they made him a cop. Made him far more interesting to watch, especially in season 3.

I mean, it is too bad making him more useful came at the expense of character assassinating everyone around him, but such was season 2.

Well are you also disappointed with how UFC looks so damn safe for the combatants?

Probending and this underground version pretty much represent that typical differences. Look at how much damage Korra took. Even the various villains didn't rough her up this badly.

Great start! Kuvira is the baddest, and Korra made me sad at the end. Liked the humor and the action was good too. A bit disappointed that there wasn't a second episode, but thats just me being impatient.
