PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Thanks, will do. FFX-2's gameplay seems much better.

FFX puts me to sleep.
My man.

Dang. I found X to be superior to X-2 in every way. I really don't like X-2, but the experience coming from X is pretty cool how you get to see all the changes going on in the world. As other suggested, the story is bland. Gameplay wise, it remains me of 13-2 without the auto battle option, but in a prototype stage.

Lots of people can't get into the "turn based" combat and don't necessarily know the depth of it; at the start it seems like it's just straight turn-based, but it turns out there's stuff like delay, speed, haste, slow, threaten that really complicate it.

Combat and a sort of non-linear story are the main things going for FFX-2 though. I also absolutely hate it's method of "non-linear". More like "extremely linear but if you decide to go to the wrong place I'll progress the story without your sorry ass". Many sidequests require immediate attention before even looking at the story for that chapter.

Oh wow, I never knew any of the pinball games had Central Park, my dad actually owns that machine at home :)
He also had 300 (Bowling) but ended up dismantling it which I wasn’t too happy about.

There's so many tables in it now I can rarely decide what I want to play, and so many that I never heard of... I kinda really dig some of the really classic old ones like Central Park, Genie etc

Vita gets the tables a little late (better late than never), but the Steam version has overtaken the spot of primary platform, I think, with it and iOS getting first dibs on everything. Makes sense.

I don't understand all the praise that Remote Play is getting either. It runs like shit for me. The framerate appears sub-30 fps, there are constant hicups, and there is definitely a noticeable amount of input lag.

Probably because your experience isn't everyone's? Seems like quite an arrogant statement.

X's actual battle system with the turn queue, the influence you can exert on it (when you're in really tough Monster Arena battles in the late game, it's immensely focused), and the party member switching is a fantastic battle system imo... I don't think X-2 has a better battle system at all, I just like dress sphere for the job system, and the speed and simultaneous action/chaining of the attack animations.

Just my opinion, though.

I would have too. FFX just didn't do anything for me even after 10 hours.

When the game was new, I played around 10 hours and stopped. Felt underwhelmed and bored as a long time FF fan. All I was doing was avoiding random encounters, not really keeping up on the sphere grid, trying to rush through, and just stalled out at the snowy mountain before
you go fight Seymour
.

A few years later I picked the game back up and it was like "wtf was I thinking?" and ended up absolutely loving it. Amazing journey, with some real emotional moments, and an excellent sidequest/end game.

Exactly what the hell was arrogant about what I said?!!!!

Sorry about all those excalation marks, but I don't enjoy being called "arrogant" just for stating my personal experience, and not implying any particular judgment on anybody else. The only arrogance I see here is coming from you, to dismiss what I said with accusations that are totally uncalled for.

Jet Car Stunts confirmed to be coming next week. I can't get on par with releases anymore, it's been a bloodbath since July.

Lot of them just come suddenly, I have no time to prepare. Frozen Synapse is still in my buying list but I already have plan for the whole month.

"Luckily" I was not interested in either FS or Murasaki Baby, nor I was interested in japanese stuff, so September was slim and the only two games I was interested in were Plussed(Joe and Velocity). but this month isn't even started and I already have two games to buy (this and Futuridium).

And I've yet to get any of the August games I was interested in (Swapper, Hohokum, Table Top Racing), + the massive backlog and some other games I'm interested in and I've not bought yet.

Late to the party, but how do I sign up for any of the number of Vita/PSN Gaf user lists? I've been on mobile up until now.

Thanks!

Then buy tons of games this month, get $15 back, use it on more games. Living the dream (if you're on US, that is).

Quote to see.

That reminds me I should probably pick up some older stuff I meant to look at some day due to the $100 -> $15 dealy.

I asked this before, but anyone played Battle Princess of Arcadias? I might just buy because of the art style. They look all jelly and squishy!

Thanks for posting the new PSN sign up sheet maouvin :D. Hope lots of people add me to their friends list :).

As for PS+ games, which one is everyone the most excited to play? For me, it has to be Pix the Cat, as it looks to be a utter blast to play :D.

Uh you assumed your experience was enough to make a value judgment on everyone's. I'd call that arrogance.

I've always been a fan of big racing games, so getting the PS+ version of Driveclub has me very excited. Plus Spelunky coming to PS4 is going to take away a lot of time from all the major releases this month, I'm feeling. That game, when I start playing it, takes control.

Pix the Cat looks great. I always love couch co-op games. I'm excited for Spelunky as well - even though I already own it - because it'll be great to finally have it on PS4!

He made no judgment, but instead only spoke of his experience with remote play compared to what others day about it. That's not arrogance.

Direct connection is the best connection, period. Try it out. ;)
Well darn, I'm actually playing Destiny on the Vita with no lag whatsoever! Thanks :3

Holy crap, finally found a used one in a store near me...

I have been debating on one of these since it launched in Japan. Even through that stupid plastic bag they house them, in it felt great.

Those new shoulder buttons, this alone, warrants an import. The dpad and all other face buttons feel great still as well. The screen will be nice as well since most of my gaming as a dad of two year old and a 9.5 hour workday is kept to night time will help my eyes compared to the brightness of the OLED, so compromises.

I am going to have to start saving some bones though because I don't want a plain black one.

Anyone else thinking about it, lookup a gamestop with a used one and feel it, phew it is finally nice to put that to bed.

By the by, can anyone recommend a good screen protector for the 2k models? Also I have huge man hands for being only 5'9" on a good day, would appreciate a grip suggestion as well, I have the hori one now I believe for my OG.

^urg really starting to want a Vita 2000 after hearing the shoulders are better. Start/select suck but I rarely use 'em, better shoulders, now that sounds great

Direct connection is great, but a router with a particularly good range can be a lot more useful depending on how far you want to be able to play. I finally have a router that covers the whole first floor even through walls, so I prefer that to direct now. But yeah if you have a bad router direct should pretty much always work if you're close enough.

Going to be buying The Evil Within on the PSN Store today, and will have a few bucks left, so I thought I'd ask: how does Silent Hill 1 hold up as a PS1 Classic? I've always been curious to play it, but I thought I'd ask to see if it hasn't aged well.

Graphically it's aged a lot better than most of the console IMO, perfectly serviceable. The horror is still great, music is still great, story too. Gameplay is classic tank control survival horror, love it or leave it. I think it's aged fantastically but I'm sure plenty of people wouldn't like the controls.

It's because it runs fantastic for most people, with some minority needing to play around with settings and converting from 'it runs like shit' to 'it runs fantastic'. If you've been following the threads on it (on this site and others) you'd see many conversion stories after people follow some general setup instructions.

If you want yours running better, it'll probably take about 15-30 minutes of web research and 15-30 minutes of trying different setups.

I was fortunate -- mine worked perfectly out of the box using direct connect. I got my buddies working perfectly by messing around with some router settings and flicking between direct connect and no direct connect till it suddenly worked.

Because there have been so many conversion stories, it's generally safe to assume those claiming 'it works like shit' generally don't have it set up properly. Usually, if something I have works terribly, and everyone else is raving, I assume it's something on my end, not them being crazy.

If anyone is on the fence to buying Futuridium don't do it. The game is not really good and feel unpolished. I'm thinking about asking for a refund but I believe that is not possible in the spanish store.

How so? analog inputs don't always register on the menu which is pretty annoying, but I've had no trouble in gameplay thus far. Only on Zone 2 though, got to level 19 and died.

Actually he did. It's an implicit judgment that can be inferred from a statement like "I don't know why people praise something. It was shit for me."

It's arrogant to think your experience is somehow just as valuable as the myriad of people who have spoke differently. A logical person would assume there's something wrong on their end.

Level 10 was the last straw for me. If you make a linear runner don't try to get creative with the layout. Plus needing to do 10 levels at a time to advance is not a good idea at all. After playing Velocity2X this game is just not up to it.

Perfect, I'm okay with tank controls. I'll add it to cart as well, thanks!

The game unlocks more credits as you advance--I do think some of the extremely long levels are a bit BS because a single death in the wrong spot may as well be a game over, but I think it's fine if you know what you're getting into.

It's not remotely as accessible as Velocity 2X though I'll agree, the game doesn't get enough credit for how playable it is at any skill level without harming top level play.

Anybody else get the Dbz xenoverse network test code? Apparently the first 20000 get to use it. Quote to see code.
Oh yeah this for PS3 only BTW.

Wow, looking at the list of games coming out this month, it will be an expensive month... with not enough time to play all these games.

I'm really excited for Senran Kagura and Freedom Wars. Tears to Tiara I have on preorder but I haven't even touched Fairy Fencer F yet. Too many games, and I love it! :)

That was already said around time of the PS4 release. They lost the middleware and I'm not sure they have any sort of sane exit strategy for the codebase. Not sure what, if anything, has happened since.

I tweeted to some of the more experienced Vita developers a couple of weeks ago and asked if they might help them (yes I know that I am naive) and "just add water"(of oddworld fame) answered and said that they were willing to help them, but spryfox said that it was a problem that noone could help them with as it have to do with their own engine.

Have there been more examples like this on the Vita, I'm getting worried that more games that already have been announced won't be able to reach my vita.

Before we only had to worry about the games that never got announced or localized, but this takes it to a new level.

Talk about being paranoid.

This is a very special case. It's not like sudenly people will start to cancel their games on Vita, specially if the game is made on Unity.

Yeah guys, the Vita 2000 has noticeably better shoulder buttons. After a few days, I got used to the screen as well. If you have issues with the Vita 1000's ergonomics/buttons, I would recommend making the switch.

Have you played the game post patch?

Except from a GFX bug in the cave in mission 5 and the fact that the best/quickest way to farm CP is the tutorial mission (both problems are being fixed for the new patch) I really like the SP campaign.

If you haven't played the game post patch I'll guess you still belive that the infinite death loop in mission 3 and the horrible GFX in mission 2 is still present (which is wrong), they also tweaked the speed in the game.

I don't care at all about the tower defence mode and I have still to play the MP, so my hope is for them to earn enough money so they can create more SP content because as I have said before I am truly impressed with the foundation they have vreated for the game (and we still don't know what they intend with being able to capture enemies as this is yet to be implimented into the game).

What I want them to add to the game is some space dust/particles to get even more sense of movement/speed.

The soundtrack is also very good.

why didn't you like it?

I played the Vita version all the way through in the SP (pre and post patch) and had these issues:
-Horrible presentation for a modern game (menus, UI, cockpit view).
-Glitches everywhere.
-Terrible cutscenes.
-Poor graphics for a game that started development targeting Vita and PC.
-Forgettable story.
-Bad AI (even the so called "aces" just lazily floated around barely hitting me). You know your space shooter has bad AI when turrets pose more of a threat than your enemy space ships.
-Needless energy allocation (most of the time, the default set up is good enough).
-Thoughtless customization (most of the upgrades are basically their predecessors, but more powerful and expensive. I was hoping stuff like the Seige Cannons would actually be different from the plasma cannons).

And back before the patch, the customization menu was basically broken and the intro cutscene was unskippable, which really didn't help improve my initial impressions of the game.

The music and variety of ships was nice at least.

NFS MW Vita is reminding me how much untapped potential the Vita has and it's depressing. Such a great portable racer. For the most part it's as good as the PS3 version. This thing really was capable of great AAA experiences but people just didn't want to know and now we're never gonna get games like this again on handhelds outside of remote play. So sad.

Agreed. I had a physical copy of this game on launch and loved it...

Let this be a lesson to y'all:

These cartridges are so fucking small, if you keep them loose in a vita case - YOU WILL LOSE THEM!!

After reading your post and seeing this low price (and considering my 64 card is on the way), I just rebought the game!

Can't wait to get back into it!
