I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm lvl 22 (35 light) and have rare chest, arm, legs, but green helm. I have just enough marks that I could buy the purple vanguard helm which would bump me to lvl 24 and then I could do the queens missions. But I'm not sure I should buy the helm since it's a queens mission reward. I could buy the vanguard arms and legs but wouldn't get nearly the light level boost that the helm would give. What would you do?

You're getting more powerful throughout the entire game in a vertical fashion since you're leveling and getting stronger at the same time, so that's moot.

Some of them are more powerful than others, and thankfully there will be some buffs to the subpar ones, but it's kind of a wack restriction mainly because you can literally collect exotics and stockpile them regardless of their rarity (that just means some folks will take longer than others). There's no context behind the restriction. It's just there for whatever reason we can come up with, and it's agreed upon that it's for balance - in both crucible and pve.

I find that to be hogwash. Balance shouldn't be a brick wall that's spread across the entire game. Balance, in its best form allows everyone to do whatever they want, and then work backwards from that point of 'feeling OP'. If folks want to play a more restrictive mode in crucible similar to the ones we have now, then of course keep them. For folks who want to run around with whatever insane gear they have, there's Iron Banner which honestly should be its own mode. At the moment, the only sense it makes to restrict players from using whatever gear they have whenever they want is because the 1 exotic weapon/1 exotic armor restriction was from being shortsighted or rushed in the designing of the game's several loops and systems, and that this was the easiest solution.

We don't know how gear is going to be handled in the future, but if weapons are going to yield a higher attack while the guns currently in this game are capped at 300, we're going to replace our legendaries and exotics anyway, so as far as moving up from purple-tier weapons and armor, we'd be replacing our gear with better stuff regardless - we just won't be doing it now.

As often as it's referenced in this thread, Diablo 3 is an example to look at how having ridiculous abilities at endgame can still allow the game to retain balance. You get to the point to where you're dealing millions of damage, and the highest tier of gear you equip releases characters from certain core gameplay restrictions, such as with the Wizard who has the ability to summon a mammoth hydra that shoots walls of fire. With some of this gear I've mentioned, the Wizard is able to summon two mammoth hydras instead of only one, yet the Wizard is just as ridiculous as the other four classes.

The insane damage and abilities make Diablo 3 considerably easy for the most part, until you crank up the difficulty into the higher Torment levels where the game is trying its hardest to murder players and does a good job for the most part.

Destiny has the potential to get to this level, if Bungie does decide to go this route, but I can't say they will since it's unclear what this game's future holds as far as upcoming content and the changes they'll bring. IMO, Destiny has the right idea with exotic bounties. Like right now I have to get 10k guardian kills. That sounds ridiculous and that's because you'd think an exotic weapon would be ridiculous, however it's for Bad Juju I think and that gun is laughable at the moment. Same with Thorn, which is conceptually the kind of weapon that should be exotic and rightfully deserves the upcoming buff it'll receive. Thorn has an exotic bounty as well that has you fight a secret boss. That's the kind of stuff we should be doing for every exotic in the game. But no, our exotic gear are gotten through RNG. All of them, considering how random exotic bounties are to obtain and how we gotta hope Xur has whatever we're looking for on sale every Friday and Saturday.

Right now, the restriction on exotic gear has little reason to be in place. The only legitimate explanations supporting it have to do with people not having them or any, or keeping them from tearing up in the Crucible's current modes. While these are valid for the present state of the game, I don't think this should last past what we're playing in Destiny now.
Thank you for your perspective; I disagree completely but it was an interesting read, and I consider this issue to be such an intrinsic aspect of my enjoyment of the endgame so far that I am surprised it is capable of entertaining both of us. My reference to verticality was to illustrate that, while you are progressing vertical throughout the entire game until the legendary/exotic distinction, you can no longer do so by simply acquiring more exotic items and that is compelling to me. I don't find Destiny to have much in common with Diablo fundamentally and your last paragraph is entirely out of sync with the intended design for exotics. This writeup on reddit addresses some of what I am referring to. You may not see or value the context but it is there and has nothing to do with shortsightedness or players lacking exotics in total, though it certainly is related to the potential for completely overpowered play in the Crucible.

I do not expect the restriction on equipping unique exotic items (one armor, one weapon) to be removed for the duration of Destiny's lifespan. From my perspective it is one of the most interesting things the game has going for it.
Woo! I instantly went from 20 -> 24 on my Titan. I am quite the mess though because I have a mix of exotics, legendaries, greens and whites haha.

I can't settle on which of my four exotic pieces to use and level up. Someone with more Titan experience decide for me ouuta there? :D

Helm of Saint-14
An Insurmountable Skullfront
Crest of Alpha Lupi
The Armamentarium
Well we can start with, do you prefer Defender or Striker? XD

WOW

I played a lot.

127 hours in 3-4 weeks.

The fast revive upgrade will come in handy for future strikes/raids.

Yes! That Titan helm will be mine! I still really like using my No backup plans gauntlets, but on the nightfall strikes I'm wary of getting within melee range of mobs for that proc to be useful on a regular basis.

Oh shit! I actually got legendary engrams from leveling Rahool. I thought Bungie lowered the chances or something after getting all but blues from the postmaster the last 3 or 4 Cryptarch levels.

I feel like I'm starting to get a little burnt out on the game. I've been level 24 for about a week now and have yet to land anything legendary for my Titan. I don't mind the grind too much, but I think what really broke me was last night when I found legendary leg armor for the warlock class and all I could do was shake my head.

Any tips on what I can do to move things along better?

I normally do the Tiger playlist for strikes and play control in the Crucible.

Got a legendary class item for Hunter. It's called the AOS#Cryptid Cloak. Yes, that's the name. No, I can put up a pic cause it won't let me preview it.

If I beat the raid on normal this week when I do it on hard only the boss rewards are given correct? All chests are already opened.

What makes symbiote anything special for raids? Seems more like a PvP helm to me.
The symbiote helmet is also really good for pvp. For instance, if you"re playing control and a Titan sets up a bubble on a capture point, 2 shots to break the bubble, then 2 more shots to kill the opposing players is very helpful.

What's the best area to farm glimmer now that the yellow health bar acolytes in the Moon mission have been removed/nerfed?

I need to be ready for when the gunsmith sells fusion rifles. (exotic bounty)

I ranked up my vanguard, grabbed legendary gear I needed, upgraded to the point where I didn't need to use ass materials, and that got me to 27 from 24/25.

My breaking point was when I was stuck with rare weapons and collecting around 20 purple engrams to get 2 legendary boots. Then I received the package for lvling up my cryptarch and assumed the 2 purple engrams I received would just turn out blue like 90% of the time.

One became rare armor.. the other became The Truth.

That's when I started to give this game a second chance. You're a slave to RNG for exotics but all it takes is that one from a random purple engram to get you reinvigorated in this game.

Gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in how frequently I've been seeing that stupid shield/forcefield thing in the Crucible. I can understand its use in single player/co-op stuff but it's really irritating in PvP.

So I was waiting on this game and decided to jump in (PS4 - Arthr2ShdsJcksn)

I picked up my copy at lunch today and hopefully will spend most of the weekend going through the main campaign.

I played the alpha and beta, but is there anything I should pay attention to/avoid so that I can get to the end-game fairly quickly?

When you reach level 5 you unlock bounties. These give massive experience so do those if you want to level up quickly. I made it all the way to level 20 in 7 hours doing those.

That was my point. My question was why the guy considers this better for raids/PvE than knucklehead radar.

Don't rely on drops, work on getting one of the factions to rank 2 so you can start buying legendary armor. Make sure you are doing bounties as those give a lot of points toward rep.

I'd buy the arms or legs and upgrade them enough to get you to 24 then do the queen stuff and get her helm and chest.

I honestly don't know yet. I need more time with it. I've been playing pretty much just defender so far so I can use it in raids but I think I'd mainly go Striker in PvP. The bubble doesn't do it for me, people aren't stupid enough to really go in it and when I use it at an objective more often than not I get hulk smashed anyway.

I'll definitely be using that in the raids and stuff. The extra AR and special ammo combined with quick revives will be pretty sweet. Not sure about PvP though.. any of the other three could work.

Vault of Glass + Use your Blue Polyphage

Have you done this? I put Blue Polyphage and the first 4 sections never dropped glimmer only the last part with the boss. But then again the game seemed glitchy since audio wasn't working and kept popping.

I' pretty sure that's one of the Crucible cloaks.

It looks pretty cool, for a Hunter cloak.

I see exotic gear as the point where you choose how to "spec" your character, similarly to how you choose your talent tree in a typical MMO. Let's say you opt to roll with Lucky Raspberry. With its arcbolt grenade and fusion rifle upgrades, you are essentially speccing yourself to be a shock damage hunter with a fusion rifles (optimally Plan C to go for a full shock build). A class needs to commit to a spec when choosing what exotics to wear. I find this system incredibly rewarding and a lot more flexible than locking you down with talent trees since you can always swap gear and subclasses between fights. These elemental speccing will be even more prevalent when more and more people start acquiring elemental damage main weapons.

In the future I totally see people looking for fireteams by saying "LFG lvl 30 void spec shotgun warlock" or "LFG lvl 29 fire spec handgun hunter."

I hate that you can't preview armour pieces that you get for other classes. Is it that hard to just load up a random filler model to show off the sweet exotic Hunter helm I got?
