This is just...wow.

A man lost his hands and feet when he was attacked by a pack of dogs that escaped from a house on Detroit's east side late Thursday, according to Detroit Police.

Three officers responded to the scene at about 10:10 p.m. and fired several shots at the dogs, killing at least one of them, police said.

The officers lured the other dogs inside the home in the 4500 block of Pennsylvania, between East Warren and Mack avenues, and locked them inside.

The owner of the home was not there at the time, but this morning was seen being escorted away by police. Police this morning said there were a total of 13 dogs in the house, including four puppies.

"They were pretty vicious," said Detroit Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Woody of the dogs involved in the attack, which he said were all pit bulls.

Oh boy he we go, pit bull thread!

Pit Bulls scare me. I can't help it.

I know this thread is gonna be filled with people saying things like 'it's not the dog it's the owner' and whatnot, but I can't help it. They freak me out.

correct about everything
much like with guns, when you can't get rid of bad owners it's that which is owned that has to be removed.

Horrible. What a nightmare that guys life will be now.

This gives me some pause.

Even if the owners were horrible, I really doubt a pack of golden retrievers would be roaming around looking for hands and feet to bite off.

Bad owners or otherwise, people should not be domesticating animals that are capable of this type of brutality in residential neighborhoods.

Awful.

We need a license for dogs I am afraid. It's not the dogs fault but man some breeds attract the worst scum of "dog lovers".

If it were 13 Golden Retrievers or 13 Cocker Spaniels in 1 house I doubt this would have happened.

Indeed.

We can #NotAllPitbulls all we want, doesn't change the fact that when shit goes wrong it's a Pitbull with alarming frequency. Different dogs have different temperaments, and some are more prone to violence than others. That's an indisputable fact about dog breeds.

I can fully understand why people are afraid of pitbulls but I just can't agree with the notion that pitbulls are inherently dangerous when being around so many pitbulls in my life.

I used to play wrestle my friends pitbull as a kid, thats how close I used to be with them. I've been around friend and family who owned the breed.

I hate the idea of cropping thier ears and stubbing thier tails as that is what makes the perception of them as dangerous or violent.

I will always advocate that they are beautiful and misunderstood animals.

I actually would like to see the receipts demonstrating that pit bulls are not more likely to be aggressive than other breeds, when controlling for owners.

I think the world would be better without scorpions, waterbugs, and centipedes, and I think adding pitbull to that list should raise no more eyebrows than the prior 3 animals; doing so would be hypocritical to some. Yes, people keep them as pets, yes, many have never harmed a human; the same can be said of most any pet, even spiders and snakes. I feel so, so bad for the poor victim, and honestly the pitbulls too that will now most likely have to be killed by animal control; after all, they are dumb innocent creatures like any other animal, and it's sad.

Sounds like the guy was in the homeowner's yard. Not saying that it would be acceptable then, but this might not be a pack of dogs randomly attacking people.

Fuck that. I'd imagine these owners got Pit Bulls to raise them as vicious dogs. They should definitely be held accountable for this.

Waiting for the lecture on breeds and how these weren't pit bulls. Oh and that it is bad owners and not the dogs fault.

Seriously why are people getting these dogs, makes no sense to me.

We are sorry to inform you that you only qualify for the Chihuahua license.

They're pretty ugly, and most of the misunderstanding revolves around the notion that we should have them around and that they're not terribly dangerous. I've had 3 people close to me in my life get attacked by pit bulls. One tore the scalp off of my friend. One put my another friend in the hospital and through multiple surgeries. One bit my son in the face. All three attacks were 100% unprovoked by "sweet, would never do anything like that" dogs. Two of them were very well known by the victims.

I hate the breed.

This is why instead of using dangerous dogs to protect my home, I have multiple hidden covered pits with sharp wooden stakes at the bottom pointing up.

Should be a banned breed or licensed at the very least.

You can say oh some are fine, but they have been specifically bread to be vicious. Other breeds you might say are similar but not to the pure instinct extent. They can't be trusted. I would say more often than not a specific type of person owns a PitBull and not for a nice reason.

There's a bar near my house that bans pitbulls and chihuahuas. Those little dogs bite like a mofo.

Also, the only dog I've been bit by is a golden retriever, so there's that.

As for these dogs, they are wild. Like in Eastern Europe, packs of dogs roam and cause problems.

The front yard is literally inches away from a public sidewalk. It wouldn't shock me to find out the pack dogs dragged the victim the foot or so onto the yard themselves.

Regardless of how you feel about the breed can we at least agree that you're a piece of shit if you're keeping 13 dogs in your home? I find it hard to believe that any single owner (or even two) can care for that many animals and not neglect/abuse them, intentionally or not.

You have every right to hate the breed, what happened to you should never happen to anyone in this world but what exactly do you have that suggests I'm wrong? My own personal anecdote aside?

I love the breed.

Pitbulls are not a violent breed. They are a powerful breed which are a product of their environment. I worked with the Humane Society to get these beautiful dogs good homes, and I LOVE them.

13 dogs?
My girlfriend's parents had 3 big ass labs and that house got rekt.
I can't imagine 13 god damn dogs.

As far as pets go, I had a pit for a while before I handed her over to my cousin on a ranch.
That dog wasn't meant for city life, burbs might do okay, but I kept her on a short leash.
You need to know what's up with any large breed. Fuck all this my dog wouldn't hurt a fly shit, it's still an animal and regardless of how much love you give it personally the world isn't so forgiving. Protect your animals for their own sake as much as everyone else's.

Aside from the discussion on aggressive behavior I personally think it's the ugliest breed and I really don't understand why you would want one. To be frank I suspect it is a certain fear factor they emit.

No not really. They can be super gorgeous.

Sorry, that's an ugly ass dog.
Also, they should restrict pitbull as pets to certified breeders or something like that. They are dangerous, unless you breed them well.
