Legend of Korra Book 4: Balance |OT| A Feast of Crows

She's basically the new modern Dai Li (even fights like them and 'enlists' soldiers like them). She should get along fine with Prince Wu since he probably won't mind being a puppet so long as nobody disrupts his spa day. If I had to guess I'd say the battle will be between Kuvira supporting the old way and the Metal Clan wanting a republic/democracy while Korra might have to settle the dispute via diplomacy since her physical prowess is gone...

Anyway I trust the team to deliver another compelling conundrum. I love what they've done in past seasons and they've really upped the bar from ATLA. Korra is such a great show but I've said that already lol

Prince Wu is a dip**** and I get the feeling Kuvira has no interest putting him in a position of power even if he's only a figurehead.

It's pretty clear that Kuvira is more popular than Wu anyway.

Screw monarchies. The Earth Kingdom is long overdue for a new form of government. Kuvira probably isn't the best alternative but I don't see how she would be any worse than freakin Woohoo.

Also, Kuvira has a lot parallels with Hitler and I mean that from a historical perspective not in a "she's super evil!" way.

Asami's
Weird chin D:

Mako's
Weird Hair D:

what ever.... it isn't like I liked those two anyway

Also

Kuvera
is power hungry.... she probably has some high vision of peace and is so blinded by her big ambition to release that she may be wrong is some cases

Last but not least I am guess that
Korra had to relearn her bending again but sadly isn't as good/up at her prime then she use to be

I think this is the first episode in a while I've really, genuinely liked. Book 3 was alright, but I didn't think it was much special compared to most folks here. This episodes gave each character enough time for us to empathize with them just a little and develop without it seeming so obviously plot-related. Scenes were given a lot of breathing room. The fight scenes were excellently choreographed. Kuvira is an imposing villain already, moreso than Zaheer and approaching Amon pre-reveal's level of just dominating scenes she is in. The animation seems to have improved a fair amount. The humour is just that bit more subtle. Bolin finally has something to do, Wan seems like an excellent foil for Mako and it was the first time I've appreciated Mako in a long while. Good hook at the end, Korra looking humbled is something everyone has wanted to see for a while. Genuinely, all looking good so far, just have to hope they don't fluff it a la Book 1.

!!!! me too

That map Kuvira had rather ominously includes the United Republic. I'm guessing she has plans beyond the Earth Kingdom, or rather she sees the UR as part of it like the Earth Queen did.

All of this is possible because of book 3.

After re-watching the trailer:

Kuvira will make a move on Zaofu, Korra will try to stop her which is probably their first encounter. You can see the Metal Clan wall thingies that rise up at night in one of the scenes where Korra is punching. You can also see a bunch of Kuvira's troops in the background.

Korra probably is defeated, maybe that's the scene where the liquid metal she falls into happens.

I will refer to the above character as bandit and to the second one as attacker

Pro

Green - same hairstructure, two small gaps or a spike, if you want

Yellow - long hair, bound to a ponytail. Although the color does not match.

Pink - Three armbands, two on the left arm and one of the right. Pretty straight forward

Red - Same cheekbones

Blue - similiar knolly nose

Questionable

Teal - The eyebrows look different, mostly because the attacker looks determined, while the bandit is beaten and look miserable. This could be just a result of their different postions in that very moment.

Brown - The attacker has a hairstrain that the bandit does not have. However, the hair of the attacker is smoother, maybe gelled back.

Interesting

The bandit is seen as the bandits start the attack on the train and at the end when Kuviras has them all handcuffed to the rails, but he was not shown taken down by Kuvira or in the pile of people she made. Interestingly enough he only has one armband at that point. Probably a mistake by the animation team, but who knows.

This is the one thing that really bugs me right. I want to say feared but then we have people like Bolin working for her directly. I need to see more to understand how she hasn't raised alarms yet.

first episode and we are already on the conspiracy theories :P
I can see that guy being sent by Kuvira but the theory that he is the same guy as the guy on the tracks seems to flimsy

She is uniting the earth kingdom and brings the people food and safety from roaming bandits. As harsh she might be, she wants to bring unison and peace as fast as she can, without granting herself any slack. She seems hardworking at the very least and I don't know if the situation would be any good if the earth kingdom would be divided into these many small areas. The airbenders don't seem able to do anything, the Avatar is seemingly still on vacation since years and who knows what the United Nations are doing.

Probably, seems strange to send one of the bandits so fast on a mission... but there are possibilities.

Because she is more competent of a leader then what they had for over a century.

World leaders are pretty diverse. Women seem to be pushing most of the story forward.

Nice to see, even nicer that it feels organic.

All of this is possible because of book 3.

I mean, having a well-written plot is not conditional on having Book 3 prior. This specific plot is conditional on Book 3, but any plot following Book 3 would likely have been conditional on Book 3.

I really hope the show does a good job of showing why Kuvira's way of doing things is wrong. Right now it's ambiguous to some, although we know that giving states the "my way or the highway" option isn't a good sign of a good leader. But I think the show can do a better job of showing exactly what's the problem with that.

Not that there's something wrong with what the first episode showed. It's good that we still have mixed feelings about Kuvira, but I hope we really get to see how much she's bullied the other states and how her rule isn't all that better to the Earth Queen's.

The governor of Yai hinted that she's left other states with nothing, using their resources for her army only and simply making states dependent on her, but that could still be expanded upon, so Korra has a legitimate enough reason to go up against her, if Kuvira is truly the antagonist of Book 4. In essence, she's Genghis Khan with a little bit of modern fascism thrown in. Haven't read the books, but Hunger Games fans are also comparing her to President Alma Coin, who forces people to side with her, making them dependent on her.

Don't they have radios? Why has no one tried to contact Korra for the past 6 months?

You mean Tonraq radioing Korra at Republic City or Tenzin/Team Avatar calling Korra in the Southern Water Tribe?

I duhno, I don't Skype with every single loved one in my life. I'm guessing they spoke regularly to her while at the Southern Water Tribe, and six months isn't that long a time to not call someone on the radio or telephone, especially for that era of technological advancement. Even in the 60s I know my parents and grandparents didn't stay that much in touch with friends and loved ones for months or years.

I guess, letters from Korra were enough for Tonraq, doesn't seem that hard to believe.

Uh, nice try but no.
Very different hair color and eyebrows.

I'm not saying
Kuvira's not behind the bandits steeling Kai and Opal's supplies, could very well be, but I don't see that much of a resemblance.

Hair color looks the same to me. Clothes are almost identical. Do you recall the exposition about Bolins hair?

Where do bandits get planes from? Why would they even bother with having Kuviras exposition on having the bandits join her? If the only thing they wanted to accomplish was show her bending prowess they would not have shown the scene the way they did.

I automatically thought she was employing those bandits to fuck everyone up just so she can play the saviour and conquer the land. That's usually the type of thing that happens in stories featuring this type of scenario, right?

It's unlikely, but I hope Kuvira actually isn't employing the bandits to do these awful things. I'd prefer she was a driven 'greater good' character than simply just power hungry.

As I said, I agree that Kuvira is probably behind some of the bandits, but that guy really doesn't look the same as the train robbers dude. But I could be wrong, I guess. Not very convinced.

Those two traits are not mutually exclusive.

- Kuvira is a bawss. A bully, predictably, but a bawss nontheless. I like her. (please don't be a fraud, please don't be a fraud)

- Wu isn't as bad as I first thought, but I still want to see him on the receiving end of some slapstick haps.
Y'know, before he goes Hulk and becomes bigger bad

- Interested in seeing this Bolin/Opal/Suyin/Kuvira situation play out

- And of course, Korra... I kinda saw that coming. Looking forward to next week's episode...

Nice start to the season.

Great first episode. Kuvira is an absolute boss. Like Amon-tier levels of badass. Hopefully her character doesn't fall apart like his did.

Im suprised people think Wu is gonna be a bad guy. He's probably gonna be assassinated.

I hope he either a) has a moment of redemption and turns into a good support character, or b) turns out to be the real Big Bad after outmanoeuvring Kuvira. Either are acceptable.
