WOW. Awesome.

America to congress: don't say crazy shit and question patriotism for no good reason or we will FUCK YOU UP. 2002 has come and gone.

I checked out her wiki page...she is straight up crazy. Why do people keep putting people like her in power? :(

Just filled in my absentee ballot. I am going to be in Japan on election night, so I don't know how I'll be celebrating/commiserating - but I did just realize the economy wildly drove my "no" votes on a bunch of expensive and sort of unessential propositions (parks etc).

Appearing on the radio program "Prophetic View In The News" to promote her 2004 state capitol rally against same-sex marriage, Bachmann said that "God calls us to fall on our faces and our knees and cry out to Him and confess our sins. And I would just ask your listeners to do that now. Cry out to a Holy God."

I believe I said this last night...but I have the exact figures today regarding the figures raised in MN-06 according to Friday's Star Tribune.

Total Raised:
Bachman: 2,450,517
Tinkleberg: 1,002,358

Quarter 3:
Bachman: 464,569
Tinkleberg: 469, 097

Cash On Hand(I was right in my estimates from last night)
Bachman: 1,368,186
Tinkleberg: 356,721

So add a half-million dollars to Tinkleberg from the last 24 hours and we have a race.

Bachman has been running ads here to the past week and a half or so. Haven't seen anything from Tinkleberg on the air.

Bachman bailed on a debate on local channel 45 last Saturday leaving Tinkleberg and an IP candidate(Tinkleberg has the Democrat and IP endorsements I believe).

Hopefully he starts airing some ads soon since ya know...there's 2 and a half weeks until the election.

2nd person who called him tinkleberg, I actually think its funny :lol

Los Angeles in... California.

Here is my take, having traveled there maybe some 15 times for business in the last 2.5 years.

1) It is overwhelmingly white. Like, nearly completely homogeneous. Coming from NJ, it's like I landed in another country...maybe a Scandinavian country. Everyone is white. A sea of white. Whiteness everywhere :lol Like, seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a black person in Utah in all the time that I've been there because I'd remember it if I did :lol

2) It's a very socially conservative state because of Mormon culture. It has some of the weirdest liquor laws in the entire country (the state actually controls all of the alcohol that's sold...ALL). My boss doesn't drink coffee for religious reasons...but he'll down Diet Coke like a freshman chugging from a keg at a frat party. I don't quite get it yet.

3) There are some strong elements of libertarian philosophy in play as well. Take guns for example. Utah is very, very, very loose in terms of gun control. Probably stems from the "leave us alone" roots of Mormonism. I think Hitokage and lawblob could provide better background than I could.

I'm not saying I don't love the guys I work with and I'm not saying that Utah isn't a sight to behold in winter, but I could never see myself living there or raising a family there. Just so homogeneous (in a creepy weird way, for a guy coming from Jersey) and culturally stagnant (maybe not the right word).

Eh. Sounds like poorly calibrated screens to me. If someone was going to defraud the system it would be done in the counts, not where the person would correct it.

Or not?

Fraud or not WHO CARES. These things are defective, period, and should be considered country-wide illegal. Period!!!

It's pretty clear at this point that McCain is trying to polarize the country as much has possible. Palin's "pro-America" parts of America; the "real" parts of Virginia; linking Obama to terrorists; calling Obama's plans socialism; race fear-mongering; inciting their crowds to hatred of the "other".

Truly disgusting stuff. They're trying to appeal to the very worst of their base. McCain is a racist, hateful man. It's really shameful. :(

This. Also, the fact of the matter is that if people are not paying attention, they could very well miss the vote change.

More than that, it raises doubts about how the vote is actually counted; it could be switched behind the scenes without anyone knowing if there is no paper trail. I really don't understand why in this day and age, if we're going to have electronic voting machines, we can't have a national verification system (all votes given an ID number and each voter gets a receipt that can be looked up online or by phone to verify the vote).

As a software engineer and an evangelist for all solutions computer and technology oriented, I want no part of an electronic polling machine.

Seriously. Anyone who doubts that this is motivated by individuals who seek to manipulate the election results at liars.

To be fair, for 5 years in Vietman he wasn't able to do any of that stuff.

I don't mind electronic voting, but there should certainly be some kind of paper trail or some way of checking the votes to make sure that it is counted fairly.

Also, in regard to the story above about somebody not being able to get the machine to check Obama, I think it's bullshit that we can't even get touch screens of the correct sensitivity level if we're going to be using them for something as important as voting.

Complete bullshit when you consider the state of touch screens (DS, smartphones, etc). If the DS screen can track complex touch driven games like Elite Beat Agents, you'd think they can make a voting machine that could check off a big box without issue.

Going to ask again cause no one gave a response but has anyone here tried making phone calls for Obama?

I really think GAF should start partaking in this... SERIOUSLY!

It keeps a record of how many completed phone calls you make and maybe we can organize a prize for the top three users who make the most calls or something.

Every vote makes a difference. I just made one to a student in PA... and I gave him information on how he can make sure he is already registered and everything by going to voteforchange.com.

Just go here... and sign up... http://my.barackobama.com/page/vote.../votercontact/switch_campaign?campaign_id=3iz

Maybe we should make a thread for this? Idk...

I know Obama is expected to win and everything but I am going to feel like crap if he loses and I didn't do much to help his chances as an individual.

As someone that has actually worked on large touchscreen projects, they aren't as precise as they can be. The larger the touch screen, the lesser the accuracy of them.

Like the one I worked with, the touchscreen was actually LESS accurate with "Mouse Assist" on, than with it OFF. Plus, the angle and size of your finger also matter greatly. Some people will touch the screen at an angle, and their ring and pinky fingers will accidentally hit the screen, too.

I'll be doing this with my wife and some other teachers next week here in Jersey. Well, I'll probably be taking pictures of my wife and friends while they do the actual calling.

I mean, that should pretty much disqualify it from the voting process altogether, even without consideration for the hackability of these machines.

So fucking stupid with the huge influx of brown this nation is getting and will likely continue to get, but keep it up McCain... keep it up.

In 17 days, I can be a proud American again. I can feel confident that the Orwellian appropriation of "freedom" and "patriotism" will diminish, that I will no longer cringe when I hear these words. I will have my flag back.

I don't disagree.

There is a game for the Super Nintendo. I think it's Breath of Fire 2. In the game you have an item called a Dragon's Tear (Eye? Drop?) that changes color depending on the evil intent of the person you're talking to. There was a circus manager who, at one point, when you talked to him, started changing the color of the Tear from the base color to a darker color, and each sentence he said made the gem get darker and darker until the gem went completely black. Then there was a boss fight.

Watching Chris Matthews grill that woman and and hearing her go deeper and deeper into the kool-aid did that to my brain. I could not believe it; I never though I'd see McCarthyism at THAT level in my life. I always thought it would be relegated to the social studies books I read in middle school.

But shit man. I actually felt burning hot rage at what she was saying, and that's not hyperbole either. Sure I might say it about a videogame, but you know videogames, they deserve hyperbole for the slightest errors (one jaggie = DEATH TO MIYAMOTO'S MOM, etc.)

This shit was real. And I'm glad it got people motivated to go against her. I'm not donating to Obama anymore, mainly because he really doesn't need it, but that money's going directly to the downtickets.

I am pissed off.

Just a quick reminder for Texas GAFers:

Early voting starts Monday (and you can vote at any early election polling place IIRC). Rick Noriega is within 6 points of John Cornyn for U.S. Senate (up from 7 points down) and vote FOR Prop 2 all you Austinites;-)
Do you need your voter card to vote in Texas? My mom is taking forever to mail me my voter card. I will have to do early voting or absentee because I am registered in Dallas but go to school in Houston.

This week my older daughter came home from school after learning about Columbus Day, and asked if I would buy her an American flag. Without even thinking, I said, "If Obama wins, I'll buy you a whole bunch of American flags."

For eight years I haven't had one around, because the symbol has been politicized so much. And, I haven't been particularly proud of this country. It occurred to me that electing Obama and teaching her about the flag go nicely together.

A tale of two networks
http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/1008/A_tale_of_two_networks.html?showall

Carl Cameron and Ed Henry are both top-flight reporters.

But they work for networks which are viewed in, shall we say, differing lights by Republican activists.

So when Fox's Cameron and CNN's Henry took to opposing risers today at a McCain rally in Woodbridge, Virginia, their receptions were starkly different.

"CNN sucks!," yelled one voter at Henry. "Communists go home," shouted another.

At one point, Henry was hit with a flying pack of chewing gum.

Toward the end of McCain's speech -- which a handful of especially passionate activists ignored to hurl insults at Henry and other reporters -- a chant went up: "We want Fox, we want Fox."

Across the outdoor courtyard where the rally was held, they had it.

Cameron was swarmed after the event by a few dozen people, many of whom beseiged the correspondent for autographs, pictures and handshakes.

Back across the way, Henry wrapped up his work for the day more or less alone.

Which beats getting pelted with projectiles.

Of course, if both had anything to say about it they'd probably just as soon be neither cheered nor jeered.

But that world has long since passed.

Thank you, Mr. Agnew.

24 hours ago, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced that all those who disagree with her are "Anti-American." Since then, the outpouring of support for my campaign has been extraordinary. Since Congresswoman Bachmann's outrageous remarks, my campaign has raised $438,346.57, and we're working to reach $500,000 by 5 p.m. today. Congresswoman Bachmann's extreme ideology divides people, but her comments on MSNBC's Hardball have united all of those who believe that I will jump start the ecomomy on Main Street by creating jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure. As a Minister and Mayor, I brought people together. I believe that we build by addition, not division. I want to thank you all. It is now clear that we have the momentum to win and I ask for your financial support. I will keep everyone posted.
