Tekken 7 - Offscreen videos

People need to chill with the abhorrence they have for this game's current state. I still remember Street Fighter IV when it was first being tested and how horrible Ultras looked and how awkward character attacked. I'm sure the final product will be much improved. Also, by the time this hits consoles (and PC hopefully) in a year or two it will have extras and probably look even better since it's probably running on inferior hardware... Unless there's a new arcade board that's been released with way better PC hardware that I haven't heard of.

This is actually pretty wild how we got a Location test done without a single gameplay trailer.

I need to get this off my chest.

I really don't like the supers. I would have MUCH MUCH rather preferred that you get an armored class 1 launcher that you can use where by which then you have to manually do your own combo to finish the match. I really can't stand simply watching all this cool stuff when I'm supposed to be playing a fighting game. I'm watching these match videos and I'm seeing all these canned animated attacks going down and I can't help but think "gee wouldn't it have been cool if I was actually doing these attacks?" The super (or "rage art") animation is basically a juggle anyway. Tekken was the one game that I lauded for the level of control you have of the virutal avatar on screen which is the character you're playing as, but now we're getting a mechanic that is taking that away from me.

My other criticism is that these supers are all a bit too much alike. It's just simply sending the person really high into a charged up final attack. The only unique ones I saw were Lili's and King. They need to be more varying.

I was indifferent on ragearts until I saw yesterday's stream. I think this is what Tekken needed to appeal to the broader public. And as Aris says, it's better to have a game that has competitors over a dead one. And I don't even agree with Aris all that much with what he says a lot of the time.

You only lose control for like 3 or 4 seconds and then you're back to the match. But I understand your concerns as well.

Of course you will be worried more about defense when you're near the wall, on the other hand, you opponent will increase his offense in hope of a wall combo and since he know you have to play it safe in such situation. If you look at the situation from a viewer position, you will see one character applying heavy pressure on the other, not defensive play(both players playing it safe), so if anything, walls made the game more offensive.

I can understand that perspective, but your description exemplifies why I hate walls. It breaks fluidity of the back-and-forth and often becomes a distracting game of trying to trap the other. I prefer the tactics of the old Tekkens, but to each their own!

I don't mind the supers from what I've seen because they seem geared to be flashy finishers, but I'll remain hesitant until we see a finalized system. I definitely don't want SF-style gameplay seeping into Tekken.

Could someone with a twitter account hit up Harada and find out if Masaru Shiina has any involvement with the OST this time? I gotta know if there's more than just dubstep to look forward to. :P

Tekken 4 good ideas weren't much on the gameplay front since it was broken as hell (infinites, wall damage etc). The good ones were most toward the character design i guess. It was the first tekken were characters felt really "alive" and their second costume wasn't just another costume,in some cases it was a new character model as well (Paul with normal hair) I felt like such thing really added to the personality of the cast .
It was supposed to be a "very" 3d game,if such thing makes sense but it failed hard.
The fact that it had less characters than tekken 2 didn't help either.

I did appreciate the effort they put into T4's asthetics and narrative, even going so far as to get writer/director Shinsuke Sato to do the scenario. The regional dialects were presented much more believably (see Jin struggling to speak English with Hwoarang) and a lot of plot threads (like Steve's) were introduced, but most of it was dropped completely. None of that really matters if the game itself is busted, but it's cool that they made the effort to shake things up.

Someone should create a new thread detailing the new mechanics and changes in the OP.

Random people won't be able to understand what's going on with this game, especially when all the footage is narrated in Japanese.

I actually think the game looks pretty nice, especially if the visuals are still getting a significant upgrade from what is shown here.

I really do think they should have stuck with it and ironed the newly implemented mechanics out over the following iterations. It was the biggest jump for Tekken and ever since then it's felt like the game has been playing it really safe. That still works for a game like this since it's, well, extremely well done in the realm of fighters, but it's lost a lot of its "pack leader" appeal to me.

I don't know about the new mechanics (although they did make for some great looking stages), but I do wish they hadn't backpedaled on the story stuff. It feels worse with each game too. They kept the prologue and epilogue stuff and Tekken 5 added interludes, but they left out the meat. None of it was progressive. None of it was well written or fleshed out the characters in new ways. I wish that could have become a Tekken staple.

Yeah I'm definitely warming up to it. Tekken is never gonna be VF levels of realism in terms of martial arts accuracy, so it might as well embrace the craziness and turn the flash up to 13. I'm definitely glad they're finally replacing the old hitsparks with something nicer.

I wouldn't mind if they left out the more ridiculous stuff like the cartoonishly huge mallets and fish that just sort of float on your back. It's bad enough seeing that stuff online, but in 6 and TT2 it was also forced upon you in nearly all the offline modes. Hi there WonderMother!

That's not how dimensions work.

That, I can agree with. I'm not a fan of the more ridiculous items.

Tekken will always have a special place in my heart. That stuff is my childhood, right there.

Given the state it's at in development, I think Tekken 7 looks pretty good so far. I hope the game turns out well for us.

The more I see of this game, the more I am convinced that flop bound is pretty much bound minus the wall but it also enables you to do super enders.

Pretty sick.Maybe they nerfed wall combos because they realized that wall pressure is enough and the extra damage isn't needed(or these players still don't know how to maximize wall damage)

just go watch on the twitch re-stream if you can't be bothered with signing up to nico, but the quality is pretty low though

It looks like they added the power moves from DOA5 and focus attacks from SF4 into Tekken 7. I wonder how different they are when we get the chance to play them.

No idea why this shit is playing in fast forward, but yeah

I hope they didn't drop Kuma. I mean, there's been a "Kuma" in every single Tekken, so I'm not that worried, but I want to see some next-gen fur techniques on that beast.

I'm going to be disappointed :(

From a gameplay perspective, this looks like a completely different game even in the eyes of your average person that doesn't know a thing about how competitive play goes.
As an above-average person, who can count frames, this looks exactly the same game but a teeny bit prettier. More like an HD port using the old textures but running with more AA and effects. Gameplay? Exactly the same. I even own 5DR, 6 and TTT2. And I've dabbled in Revolution. I have two sticks. This looks the same. I can't imagine what a casual observer thinks but it can't be better than that.
