I am playing through Crysis 1 with my new cards... Damn what a CPU limited bitch that game is. G-Sync kinda saves it at least.
This supply and demand thing is getting a little out of hand xD
So close to putting in an order for the stock Zotac, ugh. Not that Amazon have stock but at least they are taking orders.

What's wrong with the Zotac?
You pass on the PNY but are considering the Zotac?
Sorry for the questions, but I'm just really curious. I sold my old HD6950 two hours ago and got a GTX260 replacement card in my PC now. I'm basically forced to buy a new card and still can't decide which model to get. There are no tests for the cheaper models and I'm not spending 350+ on a GTX 970.
That Zotac cooler is probably better than the PNY, plus that 5 year warranty in the UK with UK based CS. I am only considering it because I only have Amazon voucher but I would much rather wait for a tried and tested card MSI, Gigabyte and the likes. If I had to buy the cheap 970s I would go for the Zotac for the warranty alone and the fact that they don't use the single fan cheap old style reference coolers helps. I don't know how the warranty is outside the UK.
A question.. how long do you guys think DDR3 1600 is still going to be good? I know DDR4 is on the way, but if I were to upgrade my cpu and motherboard in early 2015, I should be still okay with 12GB of it?
Would appreciate anybodies help on this. I just purchased an Asus GTX 970 Strix. Problem is my PSU only included a 6 pin to 6 pin connector, whereas the card needs a 6+2 or an 8.
Anyone have any recommendations on a 6 pin to 6+2 (or 8) cable. Links appreciated, especially from amazon so I can get two day shipping for free. Thanks GAF, I have no experience with these cables so I don't know what to look for.
Edit: Is this what I'm looking for?

Sayyy whaaaaat? What magic is this?If you have an Nvidia GPU you can force the game to use all available CUDA cores for texture transcoding (vt_useCudaTranscode 2). This will lessen the burden on the CPU.

So I received my second Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 this morning, fortunately it does not whine
But the new one does not hold the same overclock (+150 MHz GPU, +500 VRAM).
So now both cards are at +100 CPU and +250 VRAM.
3DMark scores :
- with one 970 @1530/3500, graphic score : 13296
- with two 970 @1480/3250, graphic score : 24828
- with my old two 680 : some 15000 points (graphic score)
Temps of the cards are 70°C for the top one and 60°C for the bottom one, was 55°C with one card.
If it has like the most amazing display ever maybe. But probably not. Not when you can get a 1440p/144hz/Gsync monitor for not much more.Is a 600 dollar 27 inch 1080p gsync monitor worth it
Not sure I understand why the GPU manufacturers are purposely limiting stock. It's not like they're the ones selling it above MSRP (aside from non-reference).
so when we can expect to see 6GB versions for 980 or 970? (they did put a 6gb version of the 780 not long ago so it'll be weird if they did not do this again)

There won't be a 6GB version due to the 256-bit memory bus. It'll be 8GB. Apparently Nov-Dec going by rumors.
I think people were saying there would never be a 6GB version of the 970 because it's got a 256-bit memory bus, so only 4GB/8GB would make sense; for 6GB/12GB you'd ideally have a 384-bit interface. But I'm not really up on the more technical aspects of video cards these days so I don't know if that's accurate or not.
The 8GB versions are only rumours. That being said, I would think they won't be more than 4-5 months away anyway.thanks for the info.
so 8gb maybe dec even early 2015. that should be fine. I can wait.

What's the price of the 980 going to be? I can't even begin to imagine the price of the 980 Classified... is that over-inflated price due to taxes and tariffs? Or is that just how it translates from USD to Chilean Pesos, or both?
You sure your PSU doesn't have any 2 cables at all? Mine had 1 8, but then a 6, but had a 2 as well, so that worked.
With the new nvidia thingy, I guess I'm downsampling for the first time, and holy god. I need to find a really graphics intensive thing to test things out.
No no no no no no no. Please for the love of god don't do this. At best you'll blow a fuse in your power supply as you try to pull 12 amps through a wire that's expecting a load of 6 when your GPU does something taxing. At worst you'll damage your video card and your power supply.
The only way you can do this safely is a 2x6 to 8 converter.

Here is how it looks on my motherboard (Asus Z77 Sabertooth) :

Are there any benchmarks of this in action?
Are there any drawbacks to this?
Is there anything that can be done about coil whine?
I'm not well versed on power supplies, so pardon my ignorance, but isn't that what I posted a link too? Doesn't that cable convert my 6 pin PSU output on the Antec Neopower 550 to an 8 pin input on the GTX 970? Why would it blow a fuse? Is it a matter of shoddy wiring? It sucks that despite years of building pc's I know next to nothing about power supplies. I appreciate any input.
That cable is a single 6 pin to 8 pin converter. A 6 pin PCI-E connector will usually have 18 AWG wiring capable of taking a couple of amps, enough for the 75W stated on the spec. The 8 pin PCI-E will usually use at least 16 AWG wire to be able to take the increased current safely (~4A per conductor or so). Sure in many cases they may overbuild the 6 pin to use a larger gauge of wire anyway and you end up fine which is why you have some jackass who chimes in with the "but I use molex to 6 pin to 8 pin on my R9 290X and it works fine". But trying to draw double the power of a spec's design is typically not a wise idea.

^ This is the actual cable. Two 6-pin inputs, one 8 pin output.
You don't want to end up like this jackass although what he did was spectacularly fucking stupid.
Just installed my MSi 970, no coil whine issues so far.
loving how quiet it is, its even quieter than my 760 windforce.
is there a way to force Vsync in menus before I go to a games PC settings?
