Alien Isolation PC Performance thread

I've got a friend looking to run this on an old 5770. He doesn't mind 720p and low settings. It should get >30fps, right?

Yup, hoping my 970 manages at least 1440p at 60fps. Early benchmarks have shocked me a little.

Tough to say for certain, but pretty likely. That cards not that far down the path from some at the bottom of the benchmarks. Probably matters if his CPU is as outdated though.

His cpu is ok, quad core i5 at 3.2ghz and 4 gigs of ram. The card is above the minimum, but I'd like him to have it at least playable. I just don't know what their standards are when they say minimum.

You will not be far from 60FPS with 4K going by these results, so 1440p won't be a problem at all.

Yeah, looking forward to it. The PS4 version had horrible iq and framerate problems when I played it, but getting round that should mean it looks amazing.

AMD FX-6300
8 gigs of 1600 ram
Samsung EVO 250
Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3 gig(rebranded 7950)

Should run perfectly at 1080p but I cant wait to see the performance and the games looks pretty good from the screens that i saw.

Man. If it runs well in 4K I might just lock it to 30.

should be fine at 4k even.

Nice.

Sometimes I don't notice too much of a difference betwen 1440p and 4k, sometimes it's big sometimes inbetween. Let's see if it's worth the sacrifice, seems like it will be fine for 60 at 1440p.

Here's 2560x1600:

Sorta strange how some lower spec'd cards are having better results than higher powered cards...well i guess it all boils down to certain aspects of each card regardless of overall power.

I would guess my 7970ghz edition card @ 1200mhz core/1650 memory will be closer to what the R9 280x is showing in performance, maybe my card besting it slightly with my OC.

This game is definitely cross-gen orientated seeing how threads/cores are simply meaningless here.

All the processors in that bench are chewing through the game yes but it is actually taking advantage of more than 4 cores

Look at the eight core 5960X, it is only clocked at 3 GHz yet is ahead of the 3.5 GHz quad core 4770k by a good amount. Both are Haswell so same IPC...

Wondering how my aging 780s will be able to fair at 4k on this. 3GB of VRAM might not cut it. Otherwise, it's great to see a fantastic port.

You can lock it to 30fps on VHQ and get it stable according to the charts, let's see with some settings turned down. Don't need very high shadows on 4k usually.

Dmn. Looks like I'll need to bump up the resolution well over 1920x1080 so I don't waste that extra framerate on my 60Hz monitor. What a shame.

I just have no chance of running this with my current gaming laptop do I:

AMD A6-4400M APU with Radeon HD Graphics (Dual Core) 2.7 GHz
6GB RAM (3GB dedicated to the Radeon)
AMD Radeon HD 7520G

On a positive note I'm getting a new computer in a couple of weeks! I'm going to spend loads and get a gaming capable monster.

I guess I could wait for Alien: Isolation until then. Unless these specs will run it now?

Depends on what you consider playable. Just as an educated guess from reading the specs on the 7520G (which I'm amazed takes 3 gigs of your ram, overkill!) I'd say you'd average around 20 fps at 1366*768 resolution. Just a guess! Do you play any other games on your laptop?

Even a lowly 8320 and a decent 7950 should run this with no problems at 1920 x 1080. Now to play the waiting game.

Remind self: Go back to Intel and get a decent board this time.

Thanks for the response! Noted on the ram overkill. Might adjust it to 2GB then. As for games anything 2D (Rayman Origins/Legends, Castle Of Illusion) runs beautifully at perfect frame rates whilst some high-end 3D games (Rage, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Bioshock Infinite) also run at blazing fast and stable frame rates.

Not every game though. The Tomb Raider reboot struggled to run at 20fps and was pretty much unplayable.

Worth giving Alien: Isolation a shot?

Hmm 123fps on 770? Now I actually need to legitimately ask myself if I should play at 120 gsynced or 60 in 3D...

Wish we had a set standard where everyone got the same framerate, at the same resolution so we wouldn't have to make tough decisions like that...

It is damn good to see a game run great on lower end cards like this game is, really looking forward to playing it, if only more games would be like this.

Might sound silly to say, but small environments (short sight lines, compartments for loading/streaming) and next to no AI aside from the alien probably do this game a lot of favours when it comes to performance.

I couldn't load a save. It crashed on loading screen.
Tried to start a new one, it works for now.

Interesting. The event logger tells me the display driver stopped responding, the Alien.exe is faulty too.

No idea what could be the cause.

Do you have the latest drivers?

FYI Alien Isolation unlocked on Steam early worldwide and is now playable. Please post your specs and performance.

Am I the only not capable on loading a save ? The game just crashes (alien.exe stopped responding).

I can start a new game just fine but can't load anything.

Frustrating. :/

Thanks for that pic OP. It's my new wallpaper.

Also just ran it on my GTX 660. 16gb ram and i7.
On ultra staying at 60FPS. So smooth.

For anyone suffering from crashing during loading, do not load the latest save. Try loading the save just before.
It works in my case, but I lose 5 minutes of progress.

The event logger tells me d3d.11 dll are the issue, the display driver stops responding as well. Driver related for sure.

anyone else got texture popins? or more importantly, could solve them? its almost idtech bad.

and also important: disable intro logos?

i5-3570k @ 4.2 GHz
Stock cooler GTX 780
16GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
7200 RPM mechanical drive

Running around 50fps at 3840x1600, a quick bump down to 1440p brings it up to a constant 60.

nice. can you post a screen of the graphical options available for the graphics whore in ALL of us :)
