Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

So I hope the AI is actually good if they're sacrificing visuals.

LOLLOLOL.
Dude...They are just BSing you.
This is an AC game, there has never been any AI in the series.
The guards will wait for you to attack, then you attack or parry, ect ect ect.
AFK in crowd to avoid detection, or murder someone next to the AI and they won't notice you until 10 sec later.

Destiny is 1080p/30fps so I'm not sure what your point is. If Destiny was 900p, you would have seen a thread like this.

I'll break it down for you.

1080p = Okay.

Not 1080p = Not Okay.

Saying you are intentionally gimping a version to match the weaker console's resolution = Super Not Okay.

Not to mention you have to take into consideration Co-Marketing Deals™. Destiny was HEAVILY pushed on PS4, Sony would have had a shit-fit if it wasn't 1080p. However MS has a Co-Marketing Deal™ with Ubisoft for AC Unity.

Hmmmmm.
There's more to graphics than resolution. Destiny lacks good anti-aliasing. With the extra power of the PS4, Bungie could have pretty easily implemented a better AA solution for Destiny, even if just using a bit of downsampling.

But they didn't. And its not because Microsoft paid them not to.

I also never said I was 'ok' with anything, either way. As a PC gamer, I deal with having my games 'gimped' all the time by consoles. I don't complain about it. But then again, I also generally get to choose things like resolution myself. Its a trade-off.

Considerably less interested now, and as Ubisoft games tend to plummet in value a month or two down the line, I can wait until January sales.

Black Flag already demonstrated Ubi's ability to obtain 1080p results on PS4. I'd assume people would judge Unity accordingly.

Saying out loud that you intentionally gimped one platform, in order to avoid online debates? Hoo boy that's not a good look for the game or Xbone.

Black Flag was cross-gen though, a launch title to boot.

I actually haven't viewed much footage for Unity but if it's next-gen only it's probably more graphically intensive.

Doesn't look good IQ-wise to me.

And that's a relatively easy scene to anti-alias.
That's not a next-gen console shot is it? That's terrible. (And I'm talking about the aliasing, not the video encoding)

So it's thanks to Azura if the xone version it's 900p I suppose.

No I highly doubt Ubi would use Azure. Both consoles are severely CPU gimped. I have read a bunch of articles where they express disappointment with the CPUs and not so much the GPUs. Both consoles came in really low on the CPU side, and there are concerns that this will hamper games going forward.

MS is attacking it via Azure offload going forward and a little DX12 magic.

One of the devs on this forum is using Azure for his current game.

This is what I am allowed to share.

Running in real-time on XBO. Very early wip, so don't care for the lighting and so on. It is a very basic frequency test where the grass splines update 12 times a second. This is nothing special so far. The cool thing is tho that the start and endpoints of our splines influenced by wind and objects are being calculated by Azure. This means: the physic calculations you see are costing us pretty much no local power (excluding GPU ofc). We can use the saved power for other things - like AI, animations and so on. We are very proud of it - especially since we completely eliminated any chance of clipping. I just wanted to add that here.

And no, this won't be a golf/grass/whatever simulator - I just thought maybe it is interesting to see;)

I know GAF "in general" is very pessimistic about the cloud. And yes, somehow I can understand that - because so far, there weren't that much games that really took advantage of server calculations. To be honest, no new-gen so far really did (Titanfall touched 5% of the possibilities ...). And this is also why I try to be very careful about the words I choose.

No. You can not boost your games resolution with Azure. And no. You can not create better lighting effects with Azure. But, if you focus on it, you can still boost the overall graphical look of your game by a mile. We are currently creating a game. But in fact, we are kind of creating two-in-one. One with Azure available, and one for offline only. Everything you code, you need to code for two scenerarios. This is a ton of work. if online = dynamic grass; if offline=static grass ... To say it very simple. And so on.That's why we are currently thinking about going "online-only". But to be very open to you, we have some fear about that. Obviously. The gaming community is very careful when they hear "online-only" ... Games like Sim City simply ... Well, did it wrong.

If I could show you a screen comparison of our latest build right now - Azure on/off (no, sorry, I can't ...), you would understand what I am talking about. Wind, dynamically moving vegetations, footprints that stay for hours and even wildlife nearly without losing any local CPU power. This is just awesome in the right situations.

I know MS has some own projects in the works, too, that will go all-in with the Azure servers. Crackdown is the already known example.

That's all I can say for now. Really. I'm out here! :)

Isn't Microsoft co marketing this game? Maybe that's why?

Anyway this is really strange move. The same people that debate differences are the same people incensed by one or more platforms held back intentionally for parity reasons.

This is the real reason for visual parity. And it's quite pity for PS4 owners.

Like most of you said - thank god for the exclusive titles on PS4.

Well, that's quite disappointing.

I guess we could still hope for a 1080p patch like we got with Assassin's Creed IV, but I'm not holding my breath.

You're a reasonable person Seanspeed... Let me ask you this: Do you think MS didn't have any influence on this whatsoever? Do you actually believe that "to avoid debates and stuff" is the reason for this parity?

Of course not. The same way MS had nothing to do with Konami removing the technical document saying PES 2015 was 1080p on PS4 and 720p on XB1. Oh wait Adam Bhatti confirmed it was MS. Nevermind...

The PR department for this game has been truly horrendous. I love my annual Assassin's Creed, but it's been nothing but bad news with every statement they've put out.

Hopefully they reconsider.

This was going to be Day 1 for me, but if they are going the parity route than fuck Ubi. I'll wait for Unity to drop to $29.99 or something. Maybe by then they'll have a 1080p patch or something.

Ridiculous.

thought it was crazy MS didn't get anything exclusive from AC after signing a comarketing deal and now i know what the deal included...,.

I came here expecting a fight between true intentions to go for parity but I never expected them to just flat out say how fucking idiotic they are :-O

I'm more interested in the CPU comment. MS and Sony should have put in a little better CPU, not these netbook jaguars. We're a year in and devs are already severely limited by the CPUs, especially for these open-world games with tons of NPCs.

I don't think his comment is supposed to be taken as the CPU is really restrictive and instead the CPUs are the same so why not lock the GPUs too?

Not to be "one of those people," but PS4 pre-order canceled. Already did it before making this post so I wouldn't be in the hot air club.

No thank you ubisoft. Will get on pc during a sale sometime or when they stealth release a 1080p patch like Black Flag received.

Wow. Money hats or an excuse not to optimize? What does it matter to them if PS4 users have a higher resolution? It is still a copy sold.. I doubt this would have prevented a XB1 owner to skip on the game.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com

Good job, Ubisoft.
I won't buy your game now.

Enough other games to buy.

Of course the PS4 will get more sales it has double the user base.
So what your saying makes no sense.

No, it makes perfect sense. People will lean towards the best version of the game if they have the platform for it. If both are equal, it matters not, and sales can be more evenly spread. I'm fairly confident you can understand that, agree or not.

This is quite outrageous. Parity didn't matter at all last gen when Xbox 360 games ran better than PS3 games. Ugh. It's really annoying in this situation because this Assassin's Creed game actually looks really interesting and fun to play, and Ubisoft has to go and ruin it with this parity crap. How disappointing.

I don't know if anything has brought this up , but Microsoft has an exclusive marketing deal with AC Unity. Ubisoft people probably don't want to piss of the hand that feeds them, in this case Microsoft.

Still pretty shady though.

I own an XBox One and a PS4 primarily for two reasons.
  1. To obtain the exclusives for each console
  2. To decide which console I will purchase multi-platform games on purely from a technical perspective.

They are purposely taking the power away from educated consumers by doing this move.
That is unacceptable. Truly unacceptable.

Now you people know how it feels to be a WiiU owner dealing with this kind of shit, sans the beign ridiculed for beign mad ofc. :P

It will probably be 900p/30fps on my PC as well if Ubisoft pulls that same horribly optimized bullshit that they did with AC Black Flag

Not buying this shit now. Locked at parity to stop debates? Really?
Such bullshit. This never happened when the Xbox and GameCube outperformed the PS2 or when the Xbox 360 beat the PS3 in multiplatform titles. But now that it's the other way round, suddenly they have to keep parity. I wonder if it involves the moneyhatting?

What am I saying? Of course it does. MS can't stand being second fiddle this time around.

speak with your money not bitching bout it on forums
