It's easy to forget how many pointless tie-ins these games have got. Could you imagine keeping up with it all? They're giving you more homework than the MCU does.

A sea of, at best, mediocrity but mostly shite.

It's like when people post a big infographic of the different MCU 'phases' and all the movies linked up etc.

A lot of the extra stuff is very cool, but some of it is weird, like the novelisation of odyssey; it makes it clear kassandra is canon, but it also contradicts what she can do in the game by making it a lot more "grounded", so it's this weird canon/non-canon mix.

I feel like an old man looking at this. The series was never supposed to turn into this big media franchise. It looks like one of those Marvel slides. AC was conceived from the get-go to be a trilogy, and back then everyone could tell because of how the modern day story took a nosedive and turned into absurdity. The quality of the games just reached such lows and no one could fill Ezio's shoes. I remember the AC3 meltdowns, shit was a warzone back then.

Just to illustrate how it started and where it is now. I'm not gonna deny that there were some awesome games here and there that were still fun (Black Flag, Brotherhood) but overall, it's simultaneously one of the biggest and also one of the most mismanaged IPs in all of gaming.

Nothing hurt the AC franchise more than the compulsion to continue shoehorning the Animus into all the games. Just pretend it never existed. It's everyone's least favorite part of all the games. No one is following along and no one cares.

If Shadows is the culmination of all these games and everything Ubisoft has learned over the years, then Shadows is absolutely abysmal to say the least

You only have to look at enemy AI to see how little progress they've actually made

Pretty much. Hell, I didn't even care about 2, but I know people love it.
Ezio was a cool dude, and I guess the game being a big step forward compared to the previous one did a lot for it.

I still have to check out BF. People say it's the best one.

Is it bad that Liberation is the only AC I've beat? Ha! I just wanted the white vita. Played like half of black flag and playing shadows now.

It actually is, 2 is absolutely worth playing and finishing because Ezio is the last good original Ubisoft character and
you get to fist fight the Pope in the Vatican

It's incredible how the last 2/3rds of this picture have so many games but mean so little to the overall story.

I think somewhere around 2015 they gave up and just made the series a history simulator.

It is full of all the retarded tropes of the time. Such as boat escort missions and stealth boat missions where you have to follow another boat but not too closely. But somehow it is still one of the best AC games.

I liked Brotherhood and 2 a lot. The multiplayer back then was cool too. Seems they just completely dropped it at some point.
