Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

It happened with Destiny without it having to mean MS is paying anybody off. Don't see why this has to be a different situation.

Good point! Why did Bungie have the PS4 version be at parity with the bone at 1080p when the PS4's GPU is more powerful? I demand to see 1400p on my 1080p television!

I feel like you're not really understanding what people are pissed about.

I think it's half and half.

People are genuinely upset that the game isn't using 100% of the the PS4's hardware.

Then there are some people who won't be able to use this game to shit on the XB1, and they're upset about that. People that don't care how good the PS4 version looks, as long as it looks better than the XB1 version.

Ladies and Gentleman...calm down. Relax.

We all knew that each version was going to suck in some way, shape, or form anyway. This is Ubisoft here. They are making progress here. They put it right out on front street for all of us this time! They should be applauded! =)

Console gamers would shit their pants to be able to downsample their games. Don't make fun. =)

How does this have anything to do with MS? Am I missing a joke here?

this marketing deal with MS stinks of parity clauses. they can't match the PS4 in resolution so they simply render the power differences null with a moneyhat. it seems like a big deal to them right now, why would they go through the trouble of getting 10% more power from ditching Kinect and sending tech teams to studios to try and squeeze every last drop of juice from the XB1?

this actually has me worried for other multiplat games they're pushing. Witcher3, The Division, Evolve all might be tuned down on PS4. smh

For those claiming they won't buy the game due to this:

Would you have bought it if it had been 900p for PS4 and 720p for X1?

Im sure they would, and would feel happier aswell. I think theyre just trying a "blackmail" though, and gonna buy it anyway!

It's not strictly about the resolution. It's how PR literally said they made design decisions to achieve parity on both consoles and seemingly not willing to put the extra effort into exploring both consoles strengths.

I feel like you're not really understanding what people are pissed about.

Pretty obvious. The statement he said made it clear they wanted parity to avoid resolution debates and problems. If they had the ability to get more out of the PS4 then they should of went for it. Makes it seesm like they held it back to keep it on par with the XB1.

Sub 1080p on both platforms is inevitable this gen just as sub-720p was inevitable last gen (with series like Call of Duty going lower and lower resolution throughout the generation, actually).

I do think they should give an unlock option on the framerate. Even if there's tearing or judder, give the gamers a choice.

I thought platform parity was a myth. Anyway, thanks for the heads up Ubisoft, Unity was the first AC game I wanted to buy but your shady practices are keeping me away from it. Oh well, more time for DA: I

I am amazed that Shadow of Mordor is on track to be my open world GOTY, but I havent really had that much fun with anything else. InFamous is the only one that comes close from 2014.

WOW, FUCK OFF UBISOFT!

Seriously, if the same shit happens with the division....I'm done. Will wait for possible patch, I hope sales fucking bomb now. Such horseshit!

edit: We are not arguing about the resolution that its at, we are arguing that they purposely held back on the PS4 version.

The gap has closed.

Apparently filling that gap with millions of $'s was pretty effective.

Of course it would, it's the weaker system. I don't understand your point.

I thought you were dead!

For those claiming they won't buy the game due to this:

Would you have bought it if it had been 900p for PS4 and 720p for X1?

It's not the lower resolution, it's the fact that the PS4 is being intentionally held back to said resolution.

It's as if Ubisoft doesn't understand their audience at all... Wait, I guess that isn't that surprising. If they just repeated last year where the PS4 got a launch patch, a couple of people would bitch and moan for a few days and then every would forget and accept that's the way it is. Now they're going to deal with a month of a lot more people bitching about forced parity until the game comes out, everyone forgets and moves on with their lives.

On another note, remember when Ubisoft was huffing and puffing about how they were going to hit 1080p/60fps for this game on consoles? Hah.

If the xbox one version was 720p this thread would be a lot different and everybody here knows it.

Listen xbgamer, if that was the case at least it would reflect Ubisoft developing a game to a platforms strengths and not arbitrarily gimping one version over the other. So yes, it would not be an issue, but not for the reason you're getting at.

For those claiming they won't buy the game due to this:

Would you have bought it if it had been 900p for PS4 and 720p for X1?

Yes. If they can't hit 1080p legitimately on PS4, then whatever. I bought Watch Dogs even though it was 900p.

But when they outright say they could do better, but aren't because of "parity", then that's what pisses me off more than just a disappointing resolution.

That salt.

Dat pepper

Well yeah.. this thread is about forced parity.

If the PS4 version was stuck at 900p with the XB1 at 720p, then we would be having talks about why these consoles cant hit 1080p.

WAT

Are you being serious right now? It has ALWAYS been up to a console's respective first party studios to show what it is capable of.

Come on guys. These "controversies" are beginning to warp your minds.
I'm aware of that! But you constantly hear about these 3rd parties going on and on about "the power of next gen"and they go ahead and purposfully gimp the superior version for "parity".That is not showcasing the power of next gen.

If the xbox one version was 720p this thread would be a lot different and everybody here knows it.
Yes it would, because it would be due to technical limitations and developmental resources, which is disappointing but understandable.

Ubisoft is blatantly saying that they CAN reach a higher resolution on PS4 but CHOOSE not to because of parity. And on top of that, according to Videogamer, the framerate sucks.

Wtf is wrong with people.

You see a game that looks cool, that you plan on buying.

And then suddenly its announced its not 1080p and 60fps and suddenly the game is shit, 3/10, do not buy.

I agree that the parity force is stupid, but come on.

A lot of people here don't like to play video games and they are waiting for an excuse to avoid buying.

Their loss

For those claiming they won't buy the game due to this:

Parity and sub 1080p are different sides of the coin.

Some people don't like the idea of parity (including me), some people don't like sub-1080p games, in AC's case we have both.

Sony doesn't have the kind of payoff money that MS has. They don't get a say in this because their wallets aren't as big.

Yeah Sony likely doesn't, but thankfully in this case, us as consumers can have a say, over 10million console owners, with a large chunk of the console market are going to be agitated by this.

I see a lot of people being dramatic over nothing sometimes, but this to me is clearly petty, lowering the potential of the game to suit the rivals.

I as a PS4 owner, or an owner of any product will not accept anything less than 100% for something I purchase, certainly not admitted negligence...

There are plenty of devs out there happy to work for my money.

I'm happy I don't have to even consider buying this game anymore. But I still feel like I need my annual AC game. Time to check out AC: Rogue!

Of course you can't if the code it's write to work in the CPU. You need to rewrite it to work on the gpgpu I imagine.

it's not a question of 'just rewriting it', you are working with a completely different (sub)set of functions, a different data model, etc. GPU resources lend themselves for very specific tasks; chance is big that you can't even get your piece of programming done with it.

Why wouldn't it be possible?

I don't know, I'm just talking out of my ass since I have no experience with this stuff. I just didn't know that something like a marketing/advertising deal could give a company sway over actual development of the game.

I thought it would only pertain to how they showed it off/talked about it in interviews etc.

I don't care about resolution as many here and i wasn't gonna buy AC because the game is crap to me but still, this move is beyond shitty and very anti consumer. They should be called for it. Especially that they even admit it publicly... this is weak Ubisoft, you just lost respect !
