Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Wow, this is frustrating. I was interested in that game but that's just insulting. They should at least PR some made up bullshit.
I am definitely returning my pre-ordered copy unopened to the store for a refund ASAP.

Ubisoft's statement is such a flame for the online parity talk/resolution wars. Can't believe they actually said it.

On the flip side though, there's FAR more PS4 owners now vs. the number back in late 2013/early 2014. The PS4 version of the game will more than likely sell more than PS4 Black Flag either way (regardless of boycotts). Probably why they decided to "troll" because I honestly don't see how they didn't think that this (e.g.: this HUGE thread) would be the outcome of their statement.

I mean, Unity seems to be doing much more than Black Flag so them taking that PR angle for the game being 900p would have been perfectly fine. But their actual statement? Straight up B.S. (haha). Still can't believe it.

Sony should make some sort of rule, if Pubs dont make use of the power they've provided and instead gimp a product in the name of parity, no release on the system. How could ubi turn down the bigger install base ?.. not a chance of this happening though.

"while explaining that it's the consoles' CPUs – not the GPU – that prevents Ubisoft Montreal from improving the game's performance."

If Watch_Dogs and my PC are any measure, it's rather your incompetence at coding.

I shared this news in one of them Playstation only facebook. One guy said "fps and resolution doesn't matter."

I should get a gaming PC If this bother me so much. is also what he told me.

If a game is CPU bound then a change in resolution will not make the framerate better/worse.

Generally true if you have the GPU processing and memory bandwidth headroom; I'm inclined to think that the PS4 has a tonne of both in the case of AC Unity, whereas the XBone, with it's render-target size crippling ESRAM and DDR3 combo, does not.

Damn.. This is bad. If your aiming for parity, just do it and keep you mouth shut, like Bungie did.

no. I applaud them for actually coming out and saying it like it is. no bullshit about it.

I still won't buy their crap, but I'm glad they had the balls to say it like it is.

IF ubi said this

''Our devs teams for both platforms managed to achieve 900p 30fps, we did aim for higher on both platforms but due to the massive scale of the crowds and Ai in AC:Unity we were bottle-necked by the CPU on both platforms''

They would have far less problems.

Driveclub, Alien Isolation, GTA5, Fifa15, Middle earth, Lords of the fallen, Dragon Age inquisition, The Evil within, far cry 4 all there to play pre-xmas and plenty after.... I do not even need AC:Unity in my life lol

I envisage if Farcry goes that way, Ubisoft in general will be on my shit-list. Looking forward to an AngryJoe video on this lol

Funny how final game will have more aliasing than this picture :)

I am stopping at GameStop on the way home, taking the $25 I had down on AC Unity (got that amount from trade ins, etc.) and putting it towards the T80 Racing Wheel from Thrustmaster for DriveClub tomorrow.
Part of me was really contemplating if I would even pick up that wheel since it is a cheaper wheel, but I want a wheel for DC and just cannot justify purchasing a $300 one, so this is exactly the push I needed to make this rash decision.

Thanks Ubi.

What's doubly annoying about this whole thing is that if MS had spent the money they're spending on all these shifty fucking deals on their hardware in the first place it wouldn't suck and they wouldn't have to spend all the money on shifty deals to try and get people interested in it.

Microsoft's business practices are so exasperating. Just put the effort in to begin with, then you wouldn't have to spend all the money on marketing to disguise the lack of it!
2.5 bil on Minecraft. Spend 500 mil of that on a better GPU so you're at least 10% as close to PS4 in terms of power and none of this BS happens. Or how about that 400 mil NFL deal. Crazy how much MS shit the bed. 1st and goal and they don't even get a field goal out of it.

Option 3 sounds like something that could happen.

Option 3 quenches the fire the quickest, but set you up for disaster at launch. Option 2 owns up to the parity while lying about the reason.

Both are pretty legitimate possibilities, it just depends on when Ubi wants sleep in the bed it just made.

So... I wonder what the PR retraction will be.

Option 1: "PR mis-spoke. PS4 version is not at 900p/30fps for parity, we couldn't make it run any better"
Option 2: "We are doing this for the gamers. We don't think any gamer should get an inferior version just because they bought a different console"
Option 3: "Resolution isn't set in stone yet for these platforms, we are still in active development." Followed by complete silence. Followed by DF analysis post-launch showing nothing changed.

I'm putting my money on Option 2.

It'll be "we want everyone* to have the same experience, hur hur."

*PC users don't count.

its beyond comical how Microsoft busted their fucking ass by sending techs and code to bungie to reach 1080p for Destiny. Assassins Creed? Ehhhh 900p Parity.. fuck it.

I remember people here were laughing whenever someone express the fear of forced parity or being skeptical of some devs doing it.

I wonder what happened to Fake Kaz Hirai on twitter. Figured he had something funny to say about this business but he has been inactive for 20 days.

I just can't wrap my head around the logic of this. 1080/900 splits are common and expected, no one gets worked up about those. Most XBO owners just hope for 900p at this point. It's the least controversial difference that there could be an resolution is far easier to change between two platforms than other things like AA, effects, enemy numbers, etc. There's no reasoning that makes sense here, especially if the idea was to avoid debate.

Destiny and Diablo weren't controversial because they were both hitting 1080p at the target framerate. This situation is just weird.

It seems odd that they say the thing about doing it to avoid debate, but then in the same interview have a technical discussion that could've easily explained the reason (ie our AI is too good for CPUs! *shrug*) for it being the same look on both.

Fuck you Ubisoft and your parity bullshit. Seriously, do your best on each platform, and if one does better than the other, then oh fucking well. Release the game as best as it can be on each system, and go from there.

Sony should make some sort of rule, if Pubs dont make use of the power they've provided and instead gimp a product in the name of parity, no release on the system. How could ubi turn down the bigger install base ?.. not a chance of this happening though.

Cutting off the nose to spite their face? You are right there is no chance. Sony has to eat this, they're at the mercy of the pubs here.

Ugh. I don't own a single sub-1080p game on PS4 and not going to start with Unity. Will hold off and get the PC version on a steam sale down the line.
