Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I find it odd that some members love to be a part of "detective-GAF" and find truth-facts behind parity and some (don't know if there is an overlap) others openly admonish these facts when they come straight from the source.

So much for appreciating transparency.

Oh, yes. This is clearly the truth. Obviously they just wanted to avoid the debate. Because somebody said it, that makes it a true statement.

Where were all the third-party 360 games crippled for 'parity' with PS3 last-gen?

Perfect comment.

So many confused people in here.

We aren't angry that the PS4 and XB1 versions are running at the same specs.

We're mad because Ubisoft flat out said PS4 could do better, but they decided to keep it the same because of "debates".

Nobody has a problem with them busting their ass on the XB1 version to get it up to where the PS4 version is. It's the fact that they chopped the PS4 version down.

Simply based on the differences between multiple previous multiplats maybe (with some of those games still having deals with MS)? The strange "792p" (instead of 720p) resolution for certain games? Not really hard.

I would join the "it's MS fault"- club if Call of Duty AW and Evolve also run at the same sub-1080p resolution on both systems for the same "reason".

So they cripple the version with most of their sales because reasons? What reason can they have to cripple one version if it isnt MS telling them so?

Yes. Let us all personally insult Phil Spencer. Christ. Can we talk about this with SOME level of maturity?

Why shouldn't I? If he wants to spout his pro-gamer crap all the time then I'm going to call him out for doing this shit because if its an MS deal then he was the one who did it. And yes I'm assuming this is an MS deal because thats what it seems like to me and until proven otherwise that will be my assumption.

For now.

What if it's not 1080p on XB1 and Ubisoft want to avoid debates and stuff?

If Far Cry changes there should be an uproar as it was 1080p with a solid fram rate not 3 weeks ago running live on a PS4.

But as I said I really don't see it downgrading at all.

I just don't understand why people get so worked up over this stuff. If you have been interested in AC: Unity up until now, passing because of parity seems so pointless. Just play the game. Losing sleep over pixels is not a good look.

Has nothing to do with pixels, it has to do with intentionally being gimped for bullshit reasons.

It's horse shit

Honestly, I believe the PS4 version will sell more despite this revelation.
Yeah, still not really convinced that the large audience actually cares about something like 900p/1080p.

Parity or not, I don't see this affecting sales for the xbox or ps4

The more I keep explaining it, the more it sounds like baseless assumption on my end.

Though process is that PP was marketed pretty heavily for Xbox one prior to the graphics comparison trailer, and after PP had a Sony focus.

Just assumption on my part MS PR wasn't happy a game they were backing was being shown as inferior.

So tales from my ass.

Yeah okay. I can't imagine MS shunting one of the biggest games of the generation over that comparison. It'd be crazy.

No, the bone actually does have a 10% clock advantage over the PS4 SOC. The memory subsystem on the bone is where the problem is..

Lets not kid ourselves here, they are both identical CPU's 1 running at a higher clock because it has more overheads to contend with, snap features, kinnect etc... It does NOT have a higher CPU resource pool to use for games. PS4 chooses not to use that clock.

What incentive does Ubisoft have to force parity if money isn't exchanging hands with Microsoft?

Let's not be naive.

So all that Microsoft money for Call of Duty marketing and map packs couldn't save Ghosts from being 720p on XB1?

This argument that Microsoft forced parity is so illogical it's not even funny.

Unless Microsoft payed Ubisoft for this, I doubt it will last

Cause if this is the new standard for publishers to appease a company that fucked up in developing a console, I'm outie.

Does anyone expect any major actual gameplay changes in this game? Hell no.

From what I have seen most people were excited about a pure next gen Assassins Creed without a last gen console holding it back.

Now we get a next-gen Assassins Creed with a next-gen system holding back the Ps4 version from looking as solid as possible. Oh what an industry this is.

The reason people are pissed is because many here bought one console over another due to it having the better specs and thus the superior versions of multiplat games. Forcing parity is political bullshit. If the extra power is there (relative to the competing console), it should be utilized, especially if it requires hardly any extra work to leverage (as is likely in this case).

Why would such an lame action that hurts a lot of gamers make you crack?

I just find it hilarious how important this shit is to you guys. Like, who honestly gives a fuck? Multiple people in this thread said that Ubisoft should have just kept their mouths shut - if they had, you guys wouldn't give a shit. I doubt that most of you could even tell that the game is not running at 1080p; hell, if it weren't for Digital Foundry, you wouldn't have these kinds of discussions in the first place. The fact that people get sooooo caught up with NUMBERS is insane to me.

Like, okay, if, for example, they reduced the size of the world or removed certain features because the Xbone can't handle that shit, I could understand people getting mad. But this? This is just pathetic.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and preorders were suddenly canceled. I fear something terrible has happened.

I think it shows the naivity of this industry that its supposed lead creators do not understand they are competing with others. The PS4 version is competing with other PS4 games and the Xbox version with other Xbox games.

Thats not a terrible evil thing; thats just natural.

Honestly I think most of these issues are from a lack of imagination when porting games to different systems. This is just the cheapest option but I think it'll hurt them compared to other games.

MS paying for parity/third party timed exclusives like Tomb Raider makes me think Spencer is no different than his douchey comments near the xb1 reveal and it's why I have no interest in an XB1 unless everyone involved with it's creation are fired.
The true reason why he got promoted!
After the PR fiasco in 2013 they had to show a new/fresh face for all the 180°s.
He isn't a bit better than the rest imo.
Well, better than Yusuf....

As a now outted PS fanboy, Vincent Pontbriand is clearly going above the moneyhats at Ubisoft and using reverse psychology here to start the very debate he was pretending/supposed to avoid.

This is truly a brilliant maneuver. He could clearly pick out the iocane powder.

Yup Spencer has done 2 and only 2 good things for xbox

1. Get the games media and a large section of the gamer community to eat his shit and call it gourmet

2. Take kinect out of the box, aka what any bafoon could have told you pre launch.

Man, if I were Ubisoft PR and read I this thread and saw that they lost the Sony crowd, I'd probably be all like, "Fine, message heard loud and clear. No parity. Parity bad. We've fixed it: Xbox One 900p and PS4 720p. Happy now?"

But that's why I'm not allowed to run a company's PR. ^_^;
I can't remember the last time I saw a thread move this fast...
Is it going to be like this the rest of the generation every time the resolutions/frame rates are the same across consoles?
I mean, the accusations in here are flying like crazy...

Feel free to ask Bish. Ive been 100% vetted. I work in the retail side of the industry.

Ah, cool. But my remark was a bit generalistic actually; enough expos where those units are running on PCs with a console added for marketing purposes. Always reminds me of those fake Marshall-stacks you see with rock and metalbands, heh.

It's not console wars. It is me saying I will not give a company money because they gimped the software that I am supposed to be paying for to please MS because of their co-marketing deal and to avoid some non existant backlash over the resolution of said software on different hardware. It's that simple. It's not console wars. It's common sense.

Yeah this is bullshit. Im not going to promote this with my money. Preorder cancelled and i loved black flag. Sorry but parity can fuck right off. Program to each consoles strengths or im not buying your software.

Could be lazy and not want to work extra on the ps4 version. It isn't always money being exchanged that does this. You have no evidence and sound like a fox news anchor.

Yes, no evidence.

The comment very nearly spells it out. The rest is common business sense, not "Fox News" logic.

You want to talk illogical?

They understood that 720p was a PR problem even before the console released. Albert Penello came in here strictly to say that he didn't know the resolution, which was not true.
They have been sending help to developers in order to hit a higher resolution, which implies they understand that it's costing them sales.

Clearly resolution deltas matter to Microsoft.

What's illogical is assuming that a company, when faced with the prospect of decreased sales, won't adjust its contracts to try and remedy that fact.

Wow, the amount of overreaction in here.

Not really. It's pretty baffling that they just came right out and declared that they are holding one version back in order to avoid a debate. Failing to realize that they are going to create an even bigger one than they would have had they just said nothing. Or better yet, made the best version they could on each system, making everyone happy in the process. Regardless, this is some real clown shoes PR.

Yeah I mean customers voicing their frustration that Ubisoft is intentionally gimping their product and giving gamers an inferior product is surely worth being even more spiteful
