Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

That producer should’ve just kept his mouth shut. seriously. If both versions were 900p and with no statement behind it, then so be it. might disappoint a few, but it’s not unprecedented

but having this line out there about locking the res just to avoid debate about parity… man. that’s a dumb statement to make out loud. Now there’s all sorts of negative reactions that could have been easily avoided, otherwise.

So....

....

...can we say XB1 is now the best way to play Unity (excluding pc of course), given the technical parity and the xb1 os? Semi-serious question here for people who own both consoles and still intend to buy the game.

I have both. No. Definitley not. The best place to play Unity is nowhere. Leave that turd in the Ubi toilet. Play used on whatever you like if you must.

What if they can get it running on the Xbox One with a 20-30fps framerate and a locked 30fps on the PS4. That would be a scenario where they are targeting the same spec and not necessarily gimping the PS4 version.
There's no indication that is the case if we are to take them at their word.

If that was the case though ... it would be pathetic if they were releases a title for XBone consistently below 30fps at this point in the life cycle.

It never ever seems to make sense when people make a big deal out of it. People are either presuming far too much about what PS4 is capable relative to X1 or they are thinking the sales lead it has now can ignore market realities in a time when publishers are more risk-averse than ever...when five or six million units sold no longer guarantee break-even. People were bitching about the specs these machines held at reveal, correctly pointing out the lack of jump relative to last gen.

what presumptions? People have these systems in their homes

Games like Killzone, Ryse, Infamous are out there, we've seen Driveclub and bits of UC4, no body is presuming anything regarding the capabilities of these machines, we've seen glimpses of what they can do with the right application.

Ubisoft has once shown that by hook or by crook they are willing to homogenize the experiences of gamers across the board for a little extra scratch, See Watchdogs ( a game that went through the graphical ringer to make sure it played on about 6 different platforms, including the much sanctified Holy PC).

I'm curious. Has any other big gaming media site reported this? Or are we again in a situation were almost no-one would say anything until some dayss has passed?

Please tell me this is a parody, or a joke or something.

Reminds me of the time I asked about the Vita Slim at my local game. Guy said it "wouldn't run the games" because the screen "loses the HD" because it wasn't OLED.

Anyway, yeah, that's 1 less game I don't need to think about around Christmas. Like that person on twitter it might have just freed up some money for Dragon Age!
Can't spell Ignorant without...

I actually listen to this podcast. You can sometimes hear a bit bias but this was ... really weird for them to say... I was convinced devs would keep doing 720p cos power and it didn't matter but then I saw the difference day one and I was sold (on both a 32" and 47" tv).

I dunno what possessed them to say this...

The more I think about this, the more I think that the quoted dev said this b/c he is not a happy camper in being forced to gimp his game. I can’t imagine making a game, and then having a suit tell me to purposely make it worse. What strange times. It’s a shame to, b/c ACIV looked quite brilliant on PS4 in 1080p; stunning at times even. There are a ton of games coming out in November, so UBI has just made it easier to trim that list.

Can't tell whether the "lols good thing I'm getting it on PC" crowd is trolling or not, when we get bent over with the most unoptimized pieces of crap ports, every time Ubisoft releases a game.

Why? If the last generation is anything to go by, framerates will get worse over time, not better.

"There’s still a bit of time to go, and the version we got our hands on could well be several revisions and optimisations old, but Unity’s performance issues are concerning. Targeting 900p and 30fps, it sports the same slightly vaselined look as its stable mate, Watch_Dogs, and gets very muddy and choppy in motion. The framerate behaves more erratically than an aristocrat during peasant uprising – obviously it depends on the scene, and the engine seemed to handle quieter streets and interiors without too many issues, but when trying to replicate moments from the trailers, perched up high, looking down on the crowd gathered at Notre Dame, the FPS took a nose dive into the low twenties. This happened a lot, especially during the kind of rooftop chases you can expect to be getting into pretty regularly. We were playing an Xbox One build, but were told that both console versions are the same."

I'm sure 792p as in Watch Dogs would have been a much wiser decision.

Kind of true.

We can expect that UbiSoft uses the same engine from Watch Dogs which means 900p on PS4

Also on the X1 Version there was still the 10% Kinect Reserve not available which is now there => so they got this version from 792p up to 900p

Maybe the CPU-statement is not completely wrong.
Indeed.

They should.
I hope this will stop the whiners.
I can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 when sitting 10fts away from my TV anyway.
I can't wait to play Unity, 900 and 720 is an even meager difference if they do decide to drop it to that resolution.
Parity helps gamers experience the same thing...why don't you guys care about the working class? I can't afford a PC or a PS4 to experience the better performance on these multiplatorm games.

What the fuck is this?

I will. Gameplay, the story, and the graphics still looking as good as e3/gamescom will always matter much more to me than the resolution, or parity. But then again my words will probably be disregarded considering the tag underneath my name. >.>

I do love that little guy... he cracks me up.

I'm still disappointed that he doesn't host E3 anymore with his other funny friend. Those two had such great chemistry. :D Together they were unintentionally hilarious.

Imagine MS in place of EA in this GIF...

Or better yet... imagine both on the left hand side.

How can they make a next gen only game that is only 900p. It just doesn't make sense, tempted to dodge this now, it smacks of ad money holding back the ps4.

This isn't a fight I should get involved with. I've only ever bought Assassin's Creed 2 for PS3 for less than €5. I liked it for what it was but considered it flawed. The third one is boring as hell and I still haven't finished it. IV looks really promising but I'm waiting for the price to drop before picking it up. Watch_Dogs looks like everything I dislike in games, in general.

... but, I'd like to state that not being able to get this to run at 1080p on at least one console is a sign that it's a pretty rushed development. It reeks of a troubled production and mismanagement.

Ubisoft just wants people to stop overreacting about minor details that barely affect the game at all. But either way, it's a lose-lose situation.
