Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Yeah because every time devs said identical versions in the past it meant perfectly equal framerate, and graphical effects. Have you seen DF articles from past games? I don't think there's one title on both consoles that is identical to the other.

I mean this is coming from the same dev who said Far Cry 4 on consoles would equal very high settings on pc.

If true, this would be one of MS's most pathetic stuns yet. Intetionally gimping another console's version because you fucked up yours.

.

Man I wish I could ditch that company, but their tentacles are pretty unavoidable in daily life.

Slightly OT, Watch Dogs was the last Ubi game I pre-order or pay more than $20 for, so tired of Ubigames.

Amazing.

What if neither game could run at 1080p?? People seem to think that 1080p is the benchmark for next gen but what if it isn't? ?

The game has 4 player coop and a very large crowd system working and a very open a free roaming world....maybe the differences will be in other areas going foward

I doubt that 1080p vs 900 is really going to change the experience of the game

your TV is just going to upscale it anyways i didn't think it was ever going to be 60fps at all but it really doesn't even matter I'm still looking forward to this game regardless of this bit of news
I've never not played a game because it was in 30 fps or not 1080p

So this is fact now?

Nice one, GAF.

I'm out.

If MS stays silent it's likely true, because I'm sure they wouldn't want to be associated with this mess if it's false. And Ubisoft can't discuss their deal if it exists, so they won't explain any further.

Or you know you can play exclusive games that highly interest you on the system they are on and then play the superior versions of multi platform games on the PC.

What part about not buying a PC don't you understand?

I'm playing destiny right now, it's not out on PC. There is no release date.

Yeah let me go run out and build a PC to play a shit port of an ubisoft game. Are you freaking for real? Have you tried to play an ubisoft game on a PC? Have you heard of u-play? Superior version of shit is still shit.

Sorry if what i said offended you. Again, this whole thing is more of a poorly worded PR of ubisoft, which they are already known for. By the description of the Press release, you can take make two conclusions out of this:

- the PS4 version was downgraded because of parity
- the Xbone version was upgraded because of parity

he explained that because of the things that they are doing with the game tech wise, they were unable to improve the game's performance past 30 fps. So i don't think that the game was 1080p/60fps all the time on ps4 and suddenly, they gimped the game because of it to hit the xbone spec. Now, the other way around, where 30fps/900p for ps4 was the best they could get, and they were getting 792p/30fps on xbone, and then they improved on that and decided to stop there (i.e if they could've improved only the ps4 edition to 1080p, they didn't for this parity reason), it's much more easy for me to believe. the ubisoft guy said that they managed to get 1080p30fps with far cry 4, and let's hope for the xbone is the same, but if isn't, they won't downgrade to 900p the ps4 version for parity.

And well, in the end this doesn't really matter for me and i don't think that you guys should be losing your minds over a poorly worded PR. If you don't want to support ubisoft that's perfectly okay too. But i'm not missing the point, i just don't think this is worth having so much drama over it.

In the past we didn't have parity, we had clearly inferior versions, with things sometimes not even fully functioning after countless patches because developers gave priority to one version and gave the other version to a less prepared developer.

And about the gamergate joke, i don't think "LOL GAMERS", but it's pretty funny to see gaf having 70+ pages over this.

I'm not offended, not at all. I'm probably getting the mediocre PC version down the line next year but I like to talk about things like this.
But let's be honest, the PS4 has an overall hardware advantage of +/- 40%. I don't expect a 60fps version, far from that, but a resolution of 1080p is not something that seems impossible to achieve if we look at the visual fidelity of this game. People should expect the best version if they have the best hardware (PC gamers know what I'm talking about) but that's just my opinion.
"We decided to lock them at the same specs" sounds to me like they didn't want to improve the PS4 version, I don't know if that's "poorly worded" or I'm still horrible at English but that's up to ourselves :p
Last gen we had multiplatform games that catered to the hardware, the PS3 had a clearly inferior RAM architecture and the GPU was also weaker, lots of multiplatform games were superior on the Xbox 360.

The GamerGate stuff wasn't directed at you.

Could you imagine how much more of a shitstorm it'd be if it ran better than the PS4? Pitchforks would be out. This, this is debatable about Microsoft's intervention. Plausible deniability. But the XB1 doing better? No, that is 100% paid off.

I am sorry but I cannot agree on that. you see, when you pay money for something hmm... under the table, most of the times -if you are paying good- you get to lay down a rule or two.
thats a general business rule, and its been the rule for humans for hundreds of years, so excuse me if I refuse to believe that tables have turned in history of human transactions just because ps4 is so much tremendously ahead :D

Their vision just coincidentally happened to be held back by XB1?

As I already posted a while back, their vision was sub 1080 on X1. MS helped them achieve it eventually. There really is no more to it.

Unity though, totally different scenario and a big mistake by Ubi.

Or you know you can play exclusive games that highly interest you on the system they are on and then play the superior versions of multi platform games on the PC.

Why do "You should go PC" guys never seem to understand that just because I don't necessarily want the best doesn't mean I want something intentionally inferior either?

Aside from the parity debacle, it seems that the game will run like shit, this is going to be Assassin's Creed 3 part 2, but it will still get 9s and 10s because "gaming journalism". Welcome to your yearly rushed poorly optimized copy/paste series.

I don't know. After some of the previews today, I am expecting this game to take some hits. But I am still looking forward to playing it.

Looking at your post history, it's not strange at all. In fact MS's tactic (assuming they're behind this) is working if its making you feel better about your purchase.

He is definitley the definition of "wheelhouse" when you pinpoint what sort of gamers this was aimed at. Fortunately, for Ubisoft and MS, these sorts of fans have proven that they are not the most savvy of consumers, if you get my drift.

I'm not sure MS is behind this. Maybe it's just lazy programming. But ps4 produced great graphics with infamous: second son. I think ubisoft could upgrade the resolutiion if they wanted. Also, If there is a marketing deal with MS for Unity, then it's more possible that MS is behind this, as the parity will help the xbox version.

There is no proof, hence the additional debate.

But the problem is the things we know:

* Ubisoft said it's CPU bound, spouting AI bullshit, but not mentioning GPU
* The Xbox One is considerably (40%~50%) weaker than the PS4
* They run on very similar architecture
* The only games that match parity have maxed out at common thresholds like 720/1080p and 30/60
* The game runs at 900p/30 on both devices
* 900p is NOT a threshold
* 1080p isn't a huge jump from 900p.
* Microsoft has been at the forefront of AC:Unity marketing

Combining all of that, we know that a device that is vastly more capable than the other should be easily able to make the jump from 900p to 1080p. No problem. Why pick such a weird resolution for the PS4 when it obviously is powerful than the XB1?

It's pretty easy to figure out the issue.

So what if the ps4 version still has the better effects, framerate, and shadows? Is it still parity? maybe they just couldn't get it to run well enough at 1080p just like watch dogs.
Not everything is just about resolution.

Why do "You should go PC" guys never seem to understand that just because I don't necessarily want the best doesn't mean I want something intentionally inferior either?

The guys saying "You should go PC" probably have never played a Ubisoft PC port before. Watch Dogs and every single AC game have been a mess on PC even with a Titan setup.

Ehhh.... Whatever.

Never cared about Assassin's Creed. Will still buy the game. This news doesn't upset me.

lol

Or you know you can play exclusive games that highly interest you on the system they are on and then play the superior versions of multi platform games on the PC.

Yeah, since Watchdogs had no frameskips and performance problems on the PC. It was a very poorly optimized game...

So what if the ps4 version still has the better effects, framerate, and shadows? Is it still parity? maybe they just couldn't get it to run well enough at 1080p just like watch dogs.
Not everything is just about resolution.

You clearly didn't read the title of the thread or OP.

As far as shadows and such go. Yeah, they can raise them on a 900p/30fps lock, but people that care would rather sacrifice things like that for 1080p/60fps.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff,"...

A lot of fancy words that will be more accurately resumed by "We know that even if we're lazy on optimisation, you'll still buy our shit."

As far as i'm concerned, this is an insult. One more display of the contempt they have for their customers. And I'll keep that grudge for a long, long time.

If MS stays silent it's likely true, because I'm sure they wouldn't want to be associated with this mess if it's false. And Ubisoft can't discuss their deal if it exists, so they won't explain any further.

And If they do a public statement everyone will magically believe them?

Can't imagine how much Ubisoft lost in preorders today with Unity, Rogue, Division, etc. I wouldn't say double-digit percentage, and it's all coming totally out of my ass, but I can't see it not being somewhat significant, if nothing more than people now loathing Ubisoft alongside EA. Word of mouth spreads.

As someone who rarely complains about this kind of malarkey I have to say I'm relieved I haven't ordered this yet, and I probably won't.

As many before me have said, the developers shouldn't deny us a quality experience equal to the system we play on. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but when it is possible to do something 'better', they should do so.

I really enjoy the AC series, too. This is a real bloody shame.

So what if the ps4 version still has the better effects, framerate, and shadows? Is it still parity? maybe they just couldn't get it to run well enough at 1080p just like watch dogs.
Not everything is just about resolution.

It won't be a parity, however Ubi said "We decided to lock them at the same specs" that means we're talking full parity here.
