Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading that most of(if not almost all) of the multi-platform games from the PS360 era were generally superior on the X360. If this was in fact the case, then I feel that this could set a very bad precedent for gaming. Now I will come out and say while I have owned previous Xbox systems I have no real desire at the moment to buy a XB1(I primarily play RPG's which are rather lacking on MS systems historically) and am primarily a PS user.

Now, if I am correct about last gen, I feel all those that are cheering about this are probably the biggest hypocrites as if this had been enforced last gen they would have been the loudest in complaining about the 360 version being held back by the PS3.

Where are the people cheering this news?

Looks like Shadows of Mordor will be taking over the Stealthy/Sneaky/Climber gameplay and carrying it forward now.

All hail the Nemesis system! All hail Monolith Productions!

Ubisoft has had some of the absolute worst public relations over the last year or two.

First they delayed Rayman Legends for Wii U in order to port it to other platforms.

They delayed Watch_Dogs and it still only ended being alright. Not to mention the whole "down gradeton".

The Crew is getting lukewarm reception.

Then there was the whole "ACU doesnt let you play as a woman" fiasco and now this.

Just mind-bogglingly bad.

Pathetic, i wasn't conviced yet to buy AC:U but Ubi just convinced me, i won't buy it, not until they release the true potential of the game on PS4, and knowing Ubi, i'll probably be playing GTA V and Driveclub on holydays

Who said it isn't, have you played both versions already?

The part where they said they put them both at a performance threshold both consoles could meet already confirms they've dropped one aspect to start with. There is legitimate concern now that they won't push PS4 for the sake of saving the egos of XB1.

Dude, it's not about resolutions; it's about Ubisoft screwing over all 11+ million PS4 owners by catering to an install base of 5+ million Xbox One owners by keeping things the same between each other in terms of graphics, etc.

That's what everyone is mad about (& rightfully so).

Lol. He was banned long before you responded. Lol. Look at his name.

What the absolute shit is this from Ubisoft, is this a joke:

UBISOFT: ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY COULD NOT RUN ON WII U

"It wouldn't be possible."

"It wouldn't be possible, in our minds we’d be cheating fans by providing a lesser version of the same game".

But It is OKAY to cheat PS4 Owners to a lesser version of the game??

do not gimp the ps4 version or give us a Wii U version. can this quote please get added to the damn OP? Wii U still has a larger install base worldwide than Xbox One.

There's a PC version right?

That'll be at least 1080p, 60fps, right?
Unity is being ported over by the Ukraine studio. The same studio that handled the other AssCreeds, Future Soldier, and Splinter Cell: Conviction. They're doing Far Cry 4 too.

They all have something in common.

You think PR pulled this guy aside and told him no more parity or performance comments during the run up to launch?

Forever. They really shouldn't have let anyone say anything about resolution. Just say it's an ongoing goal in development to push them like they were able to do with patches for AC4.

I know I shouldn't be surprised at this point but it's still crazy to me how much people lose their shit over stuff like this. It seems like such a ridiculously minor thing to go crazy over.

I mean, I can understand being a little irritated by it (assuming the PS4 version is capable of 1080p anyway) but to start going on a crusade of twitter hashtags and preorder cancellations just seems so insanely over the top that it's not even funny anymore.

I'm not in the business of telling people how they should react or feel but damn...I think a lot of you might be overreacting a bit over this. It's just resolution.

This is just carry over from last gen really. PS3 got so many bad ports and Sony owners had to constantly sit through the drivel of "difficult" architecture, yet their 1st party games were in a class of their own. Now the architecture is quite similar to develop and Sony's is indeed more powerful, yet the need for "parity" is mentioned.

Aside from the parity debacle, it seems that the game will run like shit, this is going to be Assassin's Creed 3 part 2, but it will still get 9s and 10s because "gaming journalism". Welcome to your yearly rushed poorly optimized copy/paste series.

Ahahaha Ubisoft. I just don't know what to say, I suppose the general audience won't care but it is still bad practice in my opinion. It would be wonderful if, in some wonderful and impossible future, they got a better CEO than Yves who could clean all of this up.

We'll see how Far Cry 4 is I guess, I'm not getting it on PC because of uPlay shenanigans (it would be a huge opportunity to restore goodwill by offering both Steamworks and uPlay as a choice).

Could you imagine how much more of a shitstorm it'd be if it ran better than the PS4? Pitchforks would be out. This, this is debatable about Microsoft's intervention. Plausible deniability. But the XB1 doing better? No, that is 100% paid off.

Based on hardware specs, and no gimped parity bullshit....is this even realistic? I hardly doubt it.

And that's why this whole thing is controversial.

I wish the studio that did the Blacklist port was on Unity. It's one of the best late last gen ports imo. I can somewhat-ok run Conviction on low-med at 1080, but Blacklist runs at a smooth 60 maxed out.

Generally yes. It happened with the ps2, it happened with the 360, and its happening here.

I can tell you for a fact when I worked on Wii/PS3/360 games, 95% of all development happened on the Xbox 360. And then our leads and producers would run around every few weeks to tell us to test with the Wii build even though no one ever would.

Devs make their games on what's easiest to develop on. Period. Then we get the other platforms up to snuff to make the publisher happy enough.

Uh no? Without consoles pc wouldn't even get these games. The games target specific requirements which are the closed platforms, so the better the hardware the better it'll scale to high end pc's.

PC games are "held back" by weaker consoles in that most developers aren't making games that take full advantage of the power higher end rigs have. And then you have devs like Ubi who don't bother optimizing shit for PC because they just assume throwing all the raw horsepower of said rigs at the game will get the job done.

I'm not sure MS is behind this. Maybe it's just lazy programming. But ps4 produced great graphics with infamous: second son. I think ubisoft could upgrade the resolutiion if they wanted. Also, If there is a marketing deal with MS for Unity, then it's more possible that MS is behind this, as the parity will help the xbox version.

In regards to this being bad for gaming in general, I am looking at a worse case scenario of which all developers decide to make all multi-plats have 'Enforced parity' for all future releases. So imagine if this happens and the next gen systems come out in 5-7 years with the new MS systems being more powerful than the next Playstation. Would you be happy if you suspected that game on your system were being held back because of this issue? Could this be the thing that takes over from ubiquitous dlc as being the most hated/damaging thing in gaming?

#1 - I don't see anybody "cheering" a downgrade in PS4 resolution (which doesn't even exist, but whatever). You have a handful of people expressing schadenfreude that people are gnashing their teeth over a dumb, incomplete and out-of-context quote, but that's not the same thing.

#2 - All of that entire thing is based on the idea that this is a hidden, never-enforced-until-now policy that will sweep the world of gaming and not one game that who knows what resolution it will run at. There is very, very little risk of parity taking over the game industry.

Coincidentally, I was planning on preordering Unity this afternoon. I'm a huge AC fan, so I'll still be playing it, but this is now a definite Gamefly rental. Great job, Ubi.

Amazing gifs.

Maybe we'll get another 1080p patch, but games being arbitrarily locked at 30fps for-ev-ver is really sad. It's an injustice to gaming.

A lot of jumping to conclusions in this thread. It is pretty bad of ubi not to push consoles as far as they can and especially stupid to publicly say they decided to just aim for parity. The idea that Ms gave a ton of money to ubi so that the ps4 wasn't at 1080p sounds ridiculous to me. This is one game of the many releasing this year that had performance gaps and it wouldn't have even been a big gap if it was 900 vs. 1080. I am more likely to believe that ubisoft didn't want to spend the additional time in development go push the ps4 further or perhaps judged that the gains wouldn't have been big enough to be worth the additional resources. But who knows.
