PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

That is how I feel about this generation overall so far. Doesn't help that I am on my third PS4 now in less than 90 days. :(

Oh dang what happened there? And yeah this gen has been really disappointing so far, I've mostly been sticking to my Vita/PC/WiiU to get me through right now and it's awesome since I had tons of games already bought and lined up to play. I know I'm finally gonna get some more use out of my PS4 eventually especially once Bloodborne is out, but it just sucks that the most enjoyable experience I've had so far on my PS4 has playing Co-op Knack all the way through with my brother. Playing through Tearaway right now and I'm kinda excited to see how much new content Media Molecule is gonna add for the PS4 version because I'm really really loving this game so far, it's just a beautiful experience so far.

EDIT: Also if anyone wants to be PSN buddies my PSNID is: Hugstable. I mostly play on my Vita, but I do have a PS3 and PS4. Gonna be fun in Shinovi Versus getting to fight others haha.

My first 10 days of being a PS4 owner:"how this POS could sell like it did, and fucked the vita in the process?". Destiny sucks, No games, no demos, barebones OS, etc.

Pretty dissapointed so far.

Well you bought destiny first, there's your problem right there. I feel really sorry for anyone who thought that'd be a great into to next gen. At least people buying Knack and Killzone at launch tempered their expectations.

Child of Light was a PS3 / PS4 cross-buy, right? When I go into the PSN store on my new PS4, Child of Light still comes up as $14.99 instead of free to download. Is this because I deactivated my licenses before I disconnected the PS3? Do I need to reactivate those?

It's a Ubisoft game. No, it's not cross-buy though some media erroneously reported it was at first. Incredibly disappointing but not particularly surprising, I can't think of a single non-Sony AAA publisher with a cross-buy title.

Child of Light is not cross-buy in North America. IIRC there's a deluxe SKU in EU that is, which caused a bunch of confusion.

oh, booooooooooo!

Thanks for clearing that up, though.

It's pretty disgusting that a system like PS4 can fly off the shelves while the only truly great next gen system in the Vita has been selling like shit from the start. I weep for this industry.

Haven't bought Akiba's Trip yet, wondering if I should wait for the PS4 version due next month. I usually favor portable over home console, but my PS4 is so starved for games that I could make an exception.

I downloaded all themes, which one is the best?

Best one is definitely the Dangan Ronpa Another Episode one that is Japan only (and will probably remain so for a while).

Now i can understand PS4 only users not wanting to participate in the thread when we have posts like "Its disgusting it sold this well & VITA didn't" "It is a POS"

I bet if someone decided to Trash the VITA with posts like these you would not like it.

Well, Sony advertised the PS4 (while Sony did shit for pushing the Vita), so of course it's going to sell well :). Besides, the PS4 has western 3rd party support, so many people are going to get that for that reason alone :D.

The issue with the Vita isn't doing well is a combination of iOS/Android gaming really taking off, Nintendo going all out with the 3DS and Sony not knowing how to push the Vita to people (2012 = Pocket PS3 :D, 2013 = Indie powerhouse :), 2014+ = ....Its a thing that plays PS4 Games :D....and other stuff too). That combo really hinders the Vita's ability to sell (not to mention the high memory card prices; if it wasn't for a great deal last holiday, I would have never gotten a 32GB card...)

Either way, this is the PLAYSTATION thread, not Vita, PlayStation thread. So, lets avoid saying stuff like that :); PS3, Vita and PS4 are all great systems, so lets have fun talking about all three :D.

I downloaded all themes, which one is the best?

I like the autumn one :).

I agree with you but we all know that people are actually talking shit about the Vita outside of this thread.

I agree with you but we all know that nobody is talking about the Vita outside of this thread.

fixed

I absolutely agree with IWBTG (even if I would have put it differently), the success of the PS4 is not warranted in its magnitude considering the early lineup (or lack thereof) while the Vita has a great offering and is selling poorly.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works, and sale numbers are rarely indicative of quality. The world is unfair like that but it's hardly a new thing.

That's what you get when this thread is the only place where the Vita can be loved.

With a starting price of $250 and ridiculous memory card prices, it launched in a bad position. It was more than a PS3 when you add up a good memory card with the system. Then you need games with that. As for game offerings, I think both systems started off poorly.

I can't comprehend this thought process.

I wish we could make a Gaming Community Vita thread but their forum their rules I suppose.
... Or.... *smirks

That will always happen sadly. This is probably the only thread I visit about vita stuff because of the positivity and level headed discussions. I just hope that this positivity and level headed discussions can be spread around all playstation platforms with out shit talking a specific platform.

Oh, for sure. I wasn't talking about Vita's launch window, though.

(And, just to clarify, I'm not knocking the PS4 for selling well. Just saying that there's a very particular reason why it's a success and it doesn't have much to do with games.)

?_?

I am scared lol

Ha ha, I just hope to find a way to bring VitaGAF back since I know a lot of people loved the old threads. I did love seeing the OP since being focus on a single subject allowed it to have a variety of customization like the import corner and game of the month. I need to read the rules again on why it was merged to see if there is a way to go about it though.

Well, people were busy port begging for PS4 ports of Vita games like Gravity Rush during TGS despite the Vita having no games.

It's strange that this problem seems to only exist in the "Sony Camp". I am not that familiar with Nintendo-GAF but I at least haven't encountered any hostility between Wii-U fans and 3DS fans thus far.

Games will come over time. I would argue it has a better library then the ps3 did in its first year. Vita was doa due to poor marketing/support from sony and the decline of handhelds. Also the ability of the ps tv to play vita games does not help either.

There is no such conflict among NintenGAF. I think I have a pretty good idea what the difference might be but it's probably not worth going into it, haha.

Yes, definitely. I think you're just agreeing with me, though. :) I only said that games aren't the most influential factor when it comes to a system's success.

I believe daydreaming can answer your question about Nintendogaf. I think they get along perfectly fine!

Look what arrived today.

First off -- these photos don't do the beauty of this machine justice. Hot damn. If anyone's deciding between colors, this is definitely the one to go for. I can provide more pics on request for those on the fence. It's a radiant-yellow/highlighter-green.

I was concerned about the screen quality, but this does not disappoint. It's outstanding for an LCD. Also want to mention the ergonomics -- this is the most comfortable handheld gaming machine I've used since the OG GBA.

Going to order a 32 memory card in a bit. Maybe another set of screen protectors. (Ordered the pack of three screen protectors from IllumiShield, failed three times)

We could've used that Vita-2000 topic.

Mmm, why can't we just make a Vita thread then :)?

We could mask it as "I just got a Vita!" thread and role with that :D!

I would have loved to be part of that thread back then but I wasn't a member then X(. It was that thread that pushed me into getting a Vita....best gaming related choice I have ever made :').

Look what arrived today.

Nice get man :D! That Vita looks awesome XD; the colors work so well together. Great game choices too (both are classics man :D!). If you don't own this yet, try out P3P if you love P4G; I really enjoyed P3P and I even preferred it to P4P regarding its story/world :).

Looked for exclusive games, tried all the PS plus games, and found them ranging to ok (resogun) to terrible (road not taken, contrast). Also I found indie games somewhat out of place on the ps4. The ps4 serious lacks interesting games and its almost 1 year old, the launch period is long gone.

yeah i hear ya.

had my ps4 since last december.

i think the only game that made me use the system on a consistent basis was TLOU:Re...beat that back in the summer some time though and I havent touched ps4 other than to download ps+ games and not play them...

luckily The Evil Within will bring me back to the ps4. at least I hope....

still making my way through my ps3 backlog though, so no real frustration with my ps4 sitting there...yet

2015 should start filling out the console nicely though.

Does the PS4 not keep you logged into websites on the browser?

I log into Youtube and Twitch and I keep having to re-log in when I come back after a certain amount of time.

It's probably magic ...right?

Haha, well, I think it has less to do with Nintendo and more with the different audiences for PS4 and Vita. I think there's a pretty noticeable mainstream vs. niche divide that can become apparent even on GAF. Or it may just be coincidence. Either way, I don't get why this is even a problem for some people (even though everyone, including me, would obviously prefer dedicated threads).

Played P3P, loved it. That's what sold me on this machine.

Loving your game choices. Just those 2 games would leave me busy for a month or 2. They're both addicting.

Are you suggesting I make a new official Vita thread? If so, I have no issue doing so :D.

Even if the mods lock it, at least it will be up and show them we really want a Vita thread :).

Still, the PSN Thread is a very nice one too :).
Bad idea. Purposely breaking the rules is just annoying.
