Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Why do people bring up Watchdogs as an example of a 900p game on PS4? That just proves the people who are angry right because Watchdogs was 792p on Xbox one with AO and tons of other effects missing, plus a more choppy framerate.

Increasing GPU load (900p > 1080p) still uses more CPU for draw calls, but like I said, not enough to be noticeable

Not likely the case on a unified memory architecture, such as the PS4. Assuming sufficient GPU processing and memory-bandwidth headroom, with a resolution bump, the CPU would only be taxed more if the engine were to do large amounts of per-pixel operations, or somehow end up throwing additional vertices at the higher resolution.

Unwilling to even optimize for the PS4 version has me genuinely interested in how the PC platform will fare. Ubisoft has been an absolute shitfest with PC ports, this game will be the measuring stick for their next-gen PC efforts post their insistence to do right by PC gamers.

Well now I'm terrified for Far Cry 4 ... they're gonna screw us over again aren't they guys?

Well... that depends on your expectations!

Will it look like the trailers/demos? Probably not
Will it run poorly on PC? Almost definitely
Will people complain about its repetitive nature? Almost definitely
Will it have forced parity on consoles? There's a real unknown!

Guys the 15000 on screen NPCs are necessary for immersing the player in the french revolution, even though all of the characters have british accents.

They gimped the resolution, but was anybody really expecting 60fps on consoles? on an Ubisoft game? just asking, some people were mentioning it

Marketing is expensive. I would assume the money saved/gained is more than any lost sales.

Claiming Microsoft is paying for parity is quite far fetched though imo
That is just semantics. Microsoft's money helps improve UbiSoft's bottom line. In my mind that is payment.

Hmm...Do you really think that Microsoft would pay to market a game that ran better on its competitor's console? How do you think UbiSoft would answer that question?

This is like producing a sure to be hit record from a major established band (recorded, mixed and mastered on the highest end equipment available and produced by some of the best talent in the industry) then releasing it on two platforms, a CD and a mp3 digital download with a bitrate somewhere between 128-256kbps. Only instead of taking the final audio master files and porting all of that beautiful sound to the CD with as little loss as possible, they just rip the audio from the mp3 versions to the CD because they don't want to piss off Apple or have those debates and stuff.

Division will because lolUbisoft.

If this happens, I aint buying Division or any other ubisoft published game in the future, not until they stop this.

Time to start a petition and send to Sony?

Any game that has been aimed for parity across the board should not be allowed to sell on PS4. then we see how long these fucking asshole companies will survive on only the Xbox one sales lol

We need to spread the word, like the NO DRM campaign, lets get every PS4 owner involved here.

I was interested in this one till I read about the parity crap... Does this mean that in future the ps4 will be bottlenecked by the Xbox ones inferior specs? I really hope the outrage over this makes them think again. Will not be getting this.

I agree but Ubi blame AI not the draw calls for CPU bottleneck problem.

Very good analogy but rather long to get the point across.

Is this what happens when XBO is lead platform?
Ideally it'd result in games being unchained on PS4, like training under harsher conditions than you'd normally experience, but some publishers/developers will be assholes even if they didn't develop in a way where the edge on PS4 is insignificant.

As far as The Division goes, Game Reactor has been getting insider details on its development (they were the first to point out that it was a joke to even think that 2014 was a possibility for its release), and that that person said this about the PS4 and Xbox One development

There has also been talks of Massive shifting focus from the PlayStation 4 to Xbox One after pressure from Microsoft, something that our source denies.

"That's not correct. PlayStation 4 is the more powerful hardware and we feel it is easier to develop for. Snowdrop works better on PS4 and even if Microsoft do want us to shift lead platform that's not something that has happened."

http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/123004/Massive+don't+want+to+"do+a+Battlefield+4"+with+The+Division/

I'll guess we'll see how that works out in the end.

Of course not. Its just a fact that console open world titles = 30fps.

Its like a fact of life. I was calling them damn liars when they said they were going for 1080p 60fps, especially on both platforms. You werent hitting those specs with how the game looks in the trailers to begin with.

MS markets call of duty. Ghosts ran better on ps4 and possibly Advanced Warfare if rumors hold true.

I'm far more interested in that then AC Unity tbh and I'm sort of worried. It has a PS co-marketing deal including bundles so I would hope that it's not limited in an attempt to appease Xbox owners but this could be a larger change in policy by Ubisoft for all we know.

Ask the cod ghosts team.

Am I the only one who thinks that the VP said this on purpose and actually wasn't suppose to say this? I mean seriously I really do not think they are stupid enough to actually plan this out and say this. I think he wanted us to know what was going behind the scenes.

Unlikely considering he likely values his job. He said something he wasn't supposed to say on accident and the whole company is now having to deal with it... bet he doesn't feel great about that

How quickly people forget that cod :Ghosts was 1080/60 on PS4 to 720/60 on XB1 but I guess it's easy to forget that when it contradicts your narrative.,

No one's forgotten it. It's been remembered and disputed throughout this thread. It's broken logic in two ways:

1. It assumes that any deal with Microsoft could have only been made before the console generation started when that is the least likely time something would have taken place.

Microsoft had no reason to doubt their console and its place in the market back when the game in your example was being developed. In short, they weren't as desperate as they are now. They also had no way of knowing how much internet/media backlash there would to the disparity. They do now. (It's been absolutely overblown, just like it is in this thread.)

2. It's broken because the fact that such a striking disparity was present a mere 12 months ago (in an Ubisoft, AC game even) and now mysteriously is not, is just as indicative of some sort of collusion as it is evidence against it. You point to last year's gaps and say, "See? No collusion," whereas I can just as easily point to this year's lack of gaps and say, "Where did the gaps go? Collusion."

The gaps didn't fade away because of progress that's for sure. It's interesting and of note that the disparity didn't dissolve by virtue of the Xbox One game specs being elevated to match the PS4's, which is evolution you would typically expect and desire in a video game generation, but rather, the Xbox One's specs stayed stagnant and the PS4's regressed. (This relative talk is using AC4 as a baseline.)

I honestly don't care much about resolution, it's the principle of it all. If they came out and said they were going to get Xbox One and PS4 up to 1080p/30 that'd be great news all around for everybody. But the fact that after a year of time with the hardware, they're dropping from AC4's 1080p to 900p, that just seems dubious to me.

Good grief. Sony dealt with inferior multiplat games for 3 generations, while Microsoft had mostly the superior multiplat games on two generations.

Now that Sony finally has the system for better multiplats, & that Microsoft fumbled with Xbox One, they now want to cry foul & say, "No, no, you can't have this & that better on PS consoles!" like little children?

Ugh. Microsoft needs to get over themselves, & deal with it for the rest of the generation. They're not the Don Corleone of the gaming industry like they were with Xbox 360 any longer.

Wow, I found this whole debate ridiculous from the start but now it's really getting out of hand. So if a developer just targets Xbone specs with a game, makes it run there as intended and doesn't get the resolution / framerate bumped up on PS4 without performance issues or an additonal investment that probably is not worth it at all (because really, who gives a fuck, outside of NeoGAF; PS3 consistently had the worse multiplatform versions for years and still beat the crap out of 360 in sales in Europe and Japan), you rather have this game banned from sale on PS4? What should Sony's restriction be anyway? "PS4 games of multiplatform games must have a higher resolution or a higher framerate without any disadvantages compared to the Xbone-version, otherwise it must not be released"?

People, be videogamers, not warriors, this thread is making me sick.

I honestly don't care much about resolution, it's the principle of it all. Yeah, because last-gen ports were able to run in 1080p without much hassle, the same must absolutely be true for native current-gen games. Apples and oranges...

Phantom Pain?

MGS V would like to have a word with you.

I consider MGS5 the exception rather than the rule. Because there is hardly anything taxing CPU wise in the world.

As far as we know, actual groups of people doing constant diverging AI routines are few and far between, and it takes a while to get from place to place through the desert. they can render at that fidelity with the resolution and frame-rate intact.

I mean, GTA5 on PS4 is a whole nother level in terms of what is going on inside of the world than MGS5. The CPU usage is gonna be different by default and thus framerate is impacted.

Gamers who aren't interested in playing games continues to be the narrative this generation. Why am I not shocked? People just like to be angry about everything.

Welcome to the thread. Why do you think the game runs at the same sub-par resolution and frame rate on two differently powered devices?

No it wouldn't.

Everyone here saying oh, let the xbone get the inferior version, let the superior hardware have the better version, stop gimping your games because of an inferior console.

GAF was filled with outrage when the PS3 version of skyrim was widely inferior to the 360 one.

Are Xbone owners outraged by this parity?

Hah! No.

The outrage about Skyrim on PS3 is that it was actually completely broken. When your save file got to a certain size the framerate dropped to sub 5fps making the game completely unplayable. Which is why it has absolutely 0 relation to this situation but by all means pull out that false equivalency I'm sure it won't blow up in your face.

Careful. People have been banned in this thread for saying this exact sort of thing.

It should be common sense that people don't want their platform of choice underutilized for terrible reasons. that goes for Xbox 1, PS4 or PC in general.

Modders(Durante included) would fix it.

I thought Durante has gone on record aa hes not there to fix games if devs cant be bothered to put basic effort in and dark souls was a special case?

Modders shouldnt be expected to raise the base product to where it should have been to start with.

Gamers who aren't interested in playing games continues to be the narrative this generation. Why am I not shocked? People just like to be angry about everything.
DAT tag says it all.

In all seriousness though, why do people like you who have no problem with these issues have to come into threads like these just to show your lack of interest for the topic and having condescending attitude towards others who are genuinely interested in discussing it? How about leaving off?

Does not compute. How can you say there is hardly anything taxing CPU wise in the game when all we've seen are a few environments? You have no clue what Kojima is planning on throwing at us.

No. Microsoft would never resort to such anti-competitive tactics. Oh wait, Googles Microsoft and anti-trust!

Gamers who aren't interested in playing games continues to be the narrative this generation. Why am I not shocked? People just like to be angry about everything.

I'm very interested in playing games, just not from companies that don't give a shit about their consumers. Business practices like this are inexcusable.

I stand corrected.

However, I do feel that Microsoft has gotten more desperate lately. They are offering up deal after deal in order to raise sales, and even tried to butt in on Sony's exclusive Destiny marketing deal.

Microsoft is now pushing harder for parity. For example, they went out of their way to ensure that Diablo 3 didn't look inferior on the XB1. So while it is true that Microsoft has marketed in the past a game that looked better on the PS4, I no longer think that thinking holds. In fact I would hold up the fact that AC is at parity at a lower spec despite the underlying difference in hardware capabilities as proof of this.
