So I've bought a ps3. Resonance of Fate, yay or nay?

Interesting combat system. You need to combo enemies in a very unique way -- you need to first hit enemies with machine guns to do 'scratch damage' which is effectively 'potential' damage and then use another character to hit them with a handgun for 'direct damage' that finalizes the scratch damage into real damage. Some enemies have different parts that you need to attack in various orders for the best effects (and for rare drops).

If that makes little sense, well... yeah, it doesn't. But don't let that scare you away.

Now, the amount of damage you do is based on the distance you, your combo partner, and your enemy are from each other. You're basically creating a triangle with the three characters, and they sort of all run at each other, so the longer they run, the more damage is done. This is sort of a simplified version of it. There are lots of things in each arena that can be used for cover (but also block running so can get in your way). There's also jumping high in the air for better shots.

If that makes little sense, well... yeah, it doesn't. But don't let that scare you away.

Guns are modifiable. Scopes, grips, everything. As you get new parts, you add them onto your gun in a tetris like grid. This means your guns can be ridiculous, with multiple things stuck to them in odd ways. Like, super weird -- you don't just have one slot for each modifier, it's all about glomming them together willy nilly.

If that makes little sense, well... yeah, it doesn't. But don't let that scare you away.

The overworld is a huge hex map. You can add these colored items you find to each hex to change it to a certain color, and as you make each color a bigger swath you get various combat bonuses. So there's this whole overworld game that has you optimizing the hex grid to maximize how big your bonuses are.

If that makes little sense, well... yeah, it doesn't. But don't let that scare you away.

The plot is paper thin in my opinion.

Anyway, the combat system is very odd. Everything about the game is odd, really. You'll find yourself grinding for hexes to use in the overworld because filling up the overworld is oddly addicting.

However, underneath all that, it's an interesting, solid game. The one thing I really didn't like about it is that everything was so 'odd' that it threw me off a bit... 'scratch' and 'direct' damage made no sense to me... why wouldn't hitting someone with submachine bullets do real damage? Why do i need to 'seal' that with a handgun? Why does modifying guns make you have surreal guns with 3 scopes, 4 grips, and look ridiculous?

I'd been waiting on the game and just wanted something a bit more... realistic? It didn't need to be super realistic (no game is), but this is a bit surreal at times. Still, as a game, and as a combat system, it's actually quite good, if complex at times.

It's actually more complex, imo, than Natural Doctrine, which people seem to find complex. For me, ND makes tactical sense whereas RoF never did. Both have you joining combos in various multi-character triangles, etc.

Final verdict - yay. It's odd, but it's interesting in it's odd and worth playing.

I thought I saw some pop up but I don't see it in the PS app either (nor do I see Dust, I know I got trophies in that). They might not have "published" the trophy list yet, I noticed when I palyed Velocity 2X early I earned trophies normally but I couldn't actually access the list until official launch, but all earned trophies were there when it did launch.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I just booted up Dust to pull the update and the trophy list did show up for me on the console and on the app.

So how did reviewers get around to reviewing Monkey Island 1 and 2 back in the day?
Crazy thought...they probably actually played the games quit a good bit! I doubt back then there was the sheer volume of games that we are swimming through now. So likely they actually had time to spend on the games they were reviewing, giving them the ability to review the game well.

But then again I don't know for sure, it's just my guess. But with how everything is these days, where media is literally everywhere you look, there seems to be less time for more games with unbelievably high scrutiny for any defects
in the review, by the public curious about play
in the game :\

Weird, maybe my trophies just didn't sync to PSN. I've had that happen before...Destiny's trophies actually first popped up in my activity after I had deleted the game and about a week after I earned them.

still 19 days to go and I need to spend $60 to avail for the $15.
2 weeks of offers Sonty, you best be delivering.

Fun game, good excuse to play with the Move too. I'm considering getting a second Move just to screw with it (and potentially morpheus), though the devs said it's better with nav + move due to leg movements (move is great for the arm, awkward for the rest--but half the fun of the game is the awkwardness)

BTW, if you turn on "easy mode" there's basically no failstate and you can just dick around. You even still get trophies.

Thank you kind people for your opinions abour Resonance of Fate. Bought. :D

Sucks I could only afford a 12 gb ps3 I would have downloaded it from PSN otherwise, but I guess it's too big. Oh well.

You can replace the HDD in the PS3 though it would void the warranty.

RoF is such a great game. I got addicted in customizing your clothes.

Go buy a new HDD then, I installed a 500 GB, but I think 1 and 2 TB HDDs are compatible now?

Yeah I'll probably buy one next month, money is short atm and I still have an expensive Bayo 2 First Print Edition to pay ;(
I'm not sure but I recall something about buying a rail/support for the hdd as well? I've seen the sony HDDs come with a rail...

Already too late, but I gotta say that it's worth it for Vashyron alone. Good man. Enjoyable cast overall and the gameplay is pretty hit or miss, personally, I never found it that difficult and it didn't sustain the fun for a whole playthrough. Make sure to read the tutorials and manual, it helps.

On the plot: It is presented rather bad in the game. Like, almost all of the good and interesting stuff happens off-screen and sometimes even without notice. If you ever complete the game and wonder what the hell went on, read up on it on the internet. It's a pretty awesome tale all around, sadly more than half of it is missing from the game itself. :D

Alright, about to purchase a 2k, keeping the same memory card, how do I make sure I can use the old memory card on the new vita, anyone with first hand experience?

If they both use the same PSN account then there is literally nothing to do, just put your card in the new one.

Turn it off before taking it out/putting it back in though. I'm not sure it hurts anything, but the Vita will bitch at you and reset anyway

Use the same Psn account and it will be fine, though your bubbles might not be where you put them.

I think bubbles keep their position now. I've only swapped between 2 cards on the same device though. Wanted ot make sure Crash can be copied to a clean card from Content Manager (it can, if it was already backed up)

Sorry on phone and can't quote everyone, follow up, should I have the card in before or after the initial set up of the new vita? And should I nuke all connections within settings to make sure the old vita has no association with my psn?

have the card in before you set up. As for the old vita just put back the factory settings.

does "my friends" work for anyone? when i check in my browser if anybody's online it always says that nobody is online and that they were last seen 10 months ago even tough my friends are online all the time and some of them are online right now.

FINALLY.

Post office strike kept me waiting a long time. Still can't play it though. I need to finish up Persona4Golden first. I think I'm at the (real) ending now. Enjoying this ride.

can't complain about that recommended games list
although, why just dr: ae and not reload

Maybe because DR:AE is the newest DR game for the Vita?
Or they haven't got any space left to put DR 1+2 Reload on the webpage? ;)

I have to say that the Vita looks really nice. The combination of white and pink. Plus a free pouch that looks "fashionable" for the (female) users. Great bundle as a present for your sister/friend/GF/wife etc. or for the pink lovers ;).

And I think that Sony wants to show us that the Vita can also be "fashionable" ;).

For those of you who are curious about Hatsune Miku's performance on David Letterman last night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA5pIpdQEr0

It's not very good.
They should've used a Japanese song. Hatsune Miku's Japanese songs sounds much better that the English songs/English versions ._.
And after seeing your post(and the video), it made me remember that Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd is coming next month. I really hope Sega will make an exception this time and put Hatsune Miku Project Diva F(PS3 and Vita version) on sale as a "Project Diva F 2nd is releasing soon. Get the first one for a great/good price" promo/deal :X.

More people need to pick up Jet Car Stunts - it's a fun little Vita game that I've been playing avidly for the last 24 hours.

I'm guessing it's slipped under the radar a bit - I just got ranked #3 on a hard track, and I'm hardly an expert.

Best driving game on Playstation released this week!

Yeah, I said that.

I think that you get the PS4 version as cross buy when it releases...
