If Korra was writing secret "I can only talk to you" letters to Mako, everyone here would throw themselves off a cliff because Makorra would be confirmed. There are only ten more episodes in the existence of LoK - it's the homestretch. I think we're safely in "what you see is what you get" territory.
 
That was probably the best episode The Legend of Korra has ever had. It was stunningly beautiful at times, and did a great job of showing how Korra was coping over the three years.

Very well done.
 
Good episode, filled in what's been going on without having to drag it on for the rest of the episodes.

That picture of Aang doing his goofball grin as he air bended! Just like when he was a kid.

Her being able to walk to Naga was touching.

Katara, patient as a saint.

So what *IS* the spirit or whatever that is her duplicate? The spirit saw it. It CAN hurt Korra. So what is it exactly. The missing aspect of her Avatar side?

TOPH. Loved her calling Korra twinkle toes.

Well, seeing as they have actually got previous, it wouldn't be that absurd, though i would still consider it unbelievable and bad writing. A better comparison would be Bolin being the recipient. (Let's ignore he's taken for a moment). If everybody was saying that was a confirmation, I would be expressing the same doubts.

I don't really care for love triangle or pairing stuff anyway, I just wanted to clarify what Dogdude might have meant.

It's possible, but the utter lack of development given to Asami beyond her immediate relevance to Korra and/or the plot means we really have nothing but speculation here. We know why Korra was eager to latch on to people but doesn't have other friends: she was raised in isolation and since Book 3 has returned ti that state. We know that most of the people Mako and Bolin knew growing up were involved in the triads and aren't close with many people in the pro-bending scene, which explains why they want to hang out with Korra after the three of them bond over the sport. But we're never given a glimpse of Asami having (or even wanting to have) any social life outside of the Krew, who treated her like shit in Book 2, making her and Korra ' s apparently close friendship in Book 3 seem really or of nowhere. We never even get to see anyone from Asami ' work like we do with Mako and Bolin, despite Future Industries being an important plot point whenever the Krew needs some new technical goodies.

I disagree.

After both of them were fucked over by Mako, it's kind of understandable that they would become great friends.

In regards to the rest of your post, I think not giving Asami a definite backstory is kind of the point. Sure, it's lazy writing and I'll admit that. But I think it kind of works in the scope of her book one arc and where she's at now.

It's kind of like a blank slate for her. Mako and Bolin rely on their backstories to make the viewer understand their probending struggles; I mean, it's a central theme of that arc in book one. And Korra also relies on it, being the Avatar and all. But Asami? She doesn't need that, because her character is defined by her actions in her adult life, not by who she was as a child. Her father is different, of course, but Asami never really understood his motives until she became an adult. So really, the only backstory you need is that benders are responsible for her mother's death. That's it.

Honestly to me they just come off as really good friends, not really seeing any hints of romance. I think some people take- really close friends
acting like really close friends, as somehow meaning they have romantic feelings towards each other.

kuvira being so similar to the avatar
but I wish it was

While the writers are turning Asami into Korra's main joint, it does shine a light on the former's woeful development. As Jacob pointed out, Asami has no background existence in the story. She's just there for plot convenience. Her own personal story is being a successful business person and inventor, but all of that is leveraged against the whims of Korra or Mako. You rarely ever see Asami in her element, and she suffers for it.

But this particular dropped ball has been well documented by this community, so I won't bring up old, painful history.
 
I love that we got a brief moment of
adult Aang being a goofball and acting like he did as a kid after how serious the other times we've seen him have been.
 
Its telling that this was a really good episode when all the problems people have is a few minor complaints about asmai and korra's friendship

This is closer to what I meant. The way they act around each other, outside of the wording used by writers specifically to mess/tease with a vocal shipping fanbase, hasn't shown anything. Just because both of them were burned by the same guy doesn't mean "well I just realized I'm into women". Whenever they're together there hasn't been any hinting that they see each other as more than two girls who grew close together as friends from similar experiences and hanging out together. Korra makes it almost too obvious when she's into someone. Look at how she acted with Mako. Even if she was confused about whether she likes Asami, the writers would make it obvious. Korra wears her emotions on everything she does, she's not good at hiding them. There'd be more sexual tension, more awkward scenes. But there aren't.

But she didn't, and that's because she doesn't feel as close to Bolin or Mako at that moment in her weakness. Asami has been supportive since season 2 and they grew closer as friends in season 3. Mako and Bolin haven't gone through as many hardships (currently since they've met) as Asami and Korra. And it's easier to confess your reality to a closer friend vs an old boyfriend who you aren't sure where you currently stand with emotionally, or the clown of the group. Asami is the more well-balanced character.

If she had written to Mako and said that it would be seen as romantic in nature, but that's because they had a previous relationship and are the more likely couple to be together at the end.

Welp, that was disappointing.

Not that it was a bad episode, it wasn't. It's just that after all the hyped up statements in here and the fact that the episode was called "Korra Alone" (a not-so-subtle nod to the amazing Zuko Alone episode), I was expecting a golden episode and was really excited to watch it after work. But most of this episode left really dragged out. There was particularly interesting about any of the flashbacks, and the whole Avatar hallucination doesnt really go anywhere until Korra reaches the swamp. And by the time she gets there, it was over. And the big cliffhanger at the end was already spoiled in the trailer.

Honestly, the best part of the episode was probably that picture of Aang. Lmao, that was great.

But, yeah. Hopefully the next episode is more...eventful. Because to be blunt, over half of that episode was pretty boring.
 
Korra now has met every member of OG Team Avatar.

(She almost certainly met Sokka when she was younger, he saved her from Zaheer and would have met her anyway)

met everybody
, but as to whether she remembers them that's another story. Shame Sokka has already died by the time the show starts, because it would have been a nice touch to have a season between him and Bolin where he teaches him the intricacies of being funny yet not forced.

Yep. You have Nick.com and Amazon for sure. The former it's free, not sure if you need a subscription to cable. The latter it'll cost ya but usually they're available early in the morning (3 AM Eastern US). This one wasn't for some reason I hope it isn't a common occurrence.

I think the person you go to exclusively in your moment of existential crisis - out of all your peers - is a possible component of a love interest. The reiteration of Asami missing Korra, helping Korra in her time of need, being the one person Korra wants to speak to (and it's not being couched in safe "I need girl talk" rhetoric).

We'll know one way or the other when she finally reconnects with the group.
 
Don't know if this has been discussed, but I agree that
Toph was using lavabending to heat her cauldron. Very probably Toph has mastered all subforms of earthbending, maybe even discovered one or two more.

Let's put it this way. I'll join in on the Korrasami isn't happening bet. I am so sure it won't happen I don't mind placing the bet. Chariot can choose my avatar (since apparently I can choose his if Opal isn't evil).

He was super cringe worthy during the Day of the Black Sun, but his "becoming a man/worthy warrior/follow in dad's footsteps" personal arc was rather well done. For the reason, I can forgive the forced "the nonbender needs something to do" episode and his multiple comedic failings.

I don't, because I saw the show recently and he was still hilarious. He knew his jokes were cringe-worthy, but he wasn't funny just because of his bad jokes. Also his sarcastic nature and attitude towards stuff. Like how he hated the hippies.

In retrospect, having watched Book 4 episode 2 twice now... I think it's great overall, but after episode 1, I was expecting something different.

I had this picture of a destitute Avatar forced to fight in underground bending tournaments for money to scrape by and survive. Hence the scene where the fight organizer tossed pity money at her. What we got however was an Avatar being chased around the world (and into the ring) by her troubled past 3 years. I really wanted to see them explore the destitute Avatar idea.

At what point is it okay to dispense with the spoiler tags?

he had some good liners in there once in a while but his jokes were mostly dumb and importantly enough the gang usually reacted to it (whether by actually laughing, saying that it was terrible, or offering their own) which is my biggest issue with Bolin tbh.

Also he had the serious "wanting to be a warrior/useful the gang as a non bender" segment plus actually being successful at romance (for those fans)

I wonder if Toph could tell she was the Avatar because there's still a little connection to the past lives in there somewhere, or Toph can somehow recognize the avatar spirit with her heightened sense of 'seeing'.

I don't think Nick would let them feature an openly LGBT+ protagonist. It's the same with CN and Adventure Time. We can't get it explicitly stated that characters are gay so we have to go by the subtext.

And despite the writing issues, Korra has indeed changed since Book 1. She broke up with Mako at the end of Book 2 after realizing that they weren't compatible as lovers (a distinct contrast to the Book 1 ending). It makes sense for her as a character to approach future romances more slowly after her first ever relationship ended so badly.

Awesome episode.

Goofball Aang. Toph, the greatest character in the entire series. Great writing showing Korra's struggle over the years. Yup, Book 3 wasn't just a fluke, this is looking to be a great send-off for the series.
 
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, remember what happened to Season 1.
