PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Well, it wouldn't be a surprise to see another Sony handheld in Japan :); the thing isn't tanking there and many JP developers/publishers want to support it :D.

The thing is....will this possible 'Vita 2' come to NA and EU? Likely not sadly :(, as SCEA clearly shows they hate handhelds and SCEE seems to be in spot where they cant to that much (as Youshida is the one who decides which developers do what) so they are tying their best using the 3rd party team to round up indie developers to work in the thing alongside making bundles/memory card mega packs try to sell Vitas.

I would be super upset if Sony gave up on handhelds in the West. While I like my 3ds, I love my Vita more.

What are the chances we get another $0.99 flash sale in the near future? I checked back and there seems to be a flash sale every month, but nothing that wild. I ask because I never really paid attention to PSN sales until the past six or so months.

I love my Vita too....but after two years of seeing Sony do shit for the Vita (refuse to show off during conferences, not bring the 64GB card to the states, not doing SMART moves (...where is that Minecraft bundle :l....), and Sony doing really stupid things to make the Vita worse (that PSN 'Glitch' with PS1 and PSP content, starting to TAKE exclusives from the Vita for PS4, ect)), I almost expect them to stop the making handhelds in the west :l.....

At the very least, the Vita will still be around for at least another two years with lots of JP and Indie support, and as we've been seeing, more PS Classics are landing on the store too :D. I think (will HOPE is a stronger word here) they will still have the PS Vita servers up for while, so we won't lose our stuff :).

It's random really.
I want a flash sale on SNK games. After Metal Slug X PSX I'm willing to replace it with Metal Slug 1 and 2 PSP @_@

I might as well ask what your opinions though on the more central question, 3DS or Vita? I already know about the save glitch, which seems pretty debilitating, but I am worried about the one screen of the Vita getting cluttered compared to 3DS' two. The main reason I was thinking of getting a stylus was to get the "best of both worlds", but I think I might as well get some opinions here since I'm already asking about VLR.
The Vita versions is native res 4xMSAA, that should be enough to convince you.
Screen clutter is not an issue since the 3ds version, like 999, is basically always "wasting" space by showing the same thing on both screens and the Vita has way more screen estate to work with anyway.

Don't... get Metal Slug Anthology for PSP. I tried to buy 1 & 2 by themselves when I still had an 8GB card early on, in order to save space but still be able to get my Metal Slug fix whenever I wanted, and the slowdown was horrible... I'm not a picky purist person when it comes to version differences and performance (ie: I even defend the PS1 versions of FF6 & Chrono Trigger), but it was bad. I deleted them, reinstalled Anthology, and requested a refund.

All right, sounds good. I was pretty set on Vita anyways but this settles it I think. Although, to be fair, many people (including myself now) would argue that the DS versions' specific hardware adds impact to certain parts of the story. Being vague to avoid saying spoilers. I assume that is not the case with VLR.

Oh, and since you said that the touch controls are really only an issue with note taking, you'd suggest foregoing a Vita stylus and just using pen and paper if needed? Just want to be sure that I experience VLR the best way possible, thanks for the info!

Not sure about 1, but the original Neo MS2 was plagued with horrible slowdown. I haven't played the NGStation PSP version, but the PS3 version emulates this slowdown by default. So maybe it's intentional in the PSP version as well. There's a dip switch in the NGStation menus that fixes it in the PS3 version.

I have The PSP Shock Troopers NGStation on my Vita and the only slowdown is when the screen is full, seemingly on par with the PS3 version and Neo original.

No, there's nothing like in 999.

Well, it's not impossible to take notes but it's really hard to keep them nice and tidy for future usage since the input is not exactly accurate and it's also noticeably delayed. You have several pages to use though, so I think you'll be fine with that istead of putting down the vita to use pen and paper. A stylus would proably help a little bit but I don't know if it'd be worth it for just one game.

VLR does use the 3DS hardware to drop a small hint. But in my opinion, it's nowhere near as important and impactful as 999's use of hardware. Can't say any more without spoiling things, of course. I played with a cheap stylus bought from eBay ($2 or something). Like others have said, it's not necessary, but it made navigating with touch, and writing quick notes a lot easier for me. Also, no fingerprints.

Symphony of the Night is so good.. replaying the PS1 version. Is it worth getting the PSP re-release? Does it allow me to play with Maria and see the additional content for the Saturn release?

I actually liked the slowdown in MS1. I owned the Saturn release backwhen it came out, and never thought the slowdown hurt it.

I'll quote myself from earlier.

SOTN is hard to say no to at that price, but the DX Chronicles definitely has more content. If you are buying the collection for SOTN, the are a few things to keep in mind:

1) The aspect ratio is kind of messed up. Menus are proper 4:3, but actual gameplay is stretched a bit.

2) The smooth filter cannot be fully disabled. It doesn't affect gameplay, but it definitely isn't as sharp as playing the PSOne classic.

3) This version of SOTN is not the a Saturn version.
You can play as Maria in the DXC version, but she is unfortunately not the awesome broken Saturn version.

Do we know anything about a posible Toukiden Kiwami retail release here in the West?

that's about xperia z5

reminds me of futurlab asking for a vita 2 on twitter this week

So New Vita will launch in Fall 2015? They launch a new flagship phone every six months lol.

Shock Troopers runs excellent. No comparison. It used to be my TOTP recommendation every time in the old Vita threads.

I never owned a home Neo Geo system, but I remember the slowdown in the arcades, and it was no comparison to what I was getting in the standalone PSP ports... I've had to explain that before too, that it's not me being unfamiliar with the slowdown of yore.

Here's the thing, the neo geo collections were done by M2, they are well known for their handling of classic re-releases. Thing is much of their re-releases aim for 100% accurate emulation right down to any slowdown. MS1 and 2 did have options to remove slowdown though.
I'd get the MS Anthology collection but...dude that's like 700 MB isn't it?!

I imported the retail release. It was great. Really relaxing and endearing... totally polished for what it is.

People are mean to it, but I forgive them.

I throw it in the same class as Smart As... another great game of it's type that people just write off at a glance.
I was thinking about ordering the UK edition, too. But is it true you need to have an UK PSN account to access the DLC for the game since it's the UK edition?

That's crazy. I wonder how they messed it up.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to berate or anything. I was just hopeful that there was a solution.

Yes, that's true. I play on an NA account only and just ignore the DLC... it's just some pet clothes and outfits. There's no campaign/content DLC or anything.

If you like physical copies of games and collecting, I wouldn't let it deter you.

Does anyone know anything about In Space We Brawl?

The main reason I was thinking of getting a stylus was to get the "best of both worlds", but I think I might as well get some opinions here since I'm already asking about VLR.

It sounds a bit like you're just 'used' to a stylus. For comparison, every time I break out my 3ds I feel like I've got 5 thumbs and absolutely hate the stylus because I'm so used to the vita. My bet is that an hour (or 5 minutes) into any vita game, you'll naturally get used to the touch screen, just like I do with a stylus.

It's not super hard for an SRPG, at least in the main story, but make sure you're always bringing a group of 10 fully equipped people, and that their equipment matches their class. Disgaea is very complicated,

Proper use of the color grids in the item world will destroy most levels without even a shot fired. Agreed it's complicated overall, but I never find it hard unless I try to do too much (ie, try something I know i'm underleveled for). Story levels are generally easy, if someone is having an issue just level up some items (and characters in the process).

I get lost in the item world and usually forget all about the story missions anyway.

If they did make a Vita 2, I can't imagine them not releasing it worldwide. I don't know that I will; the vita certainly isn't as huge as they'd like it to be, but it could still be profitable?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but with the variety of games coming out on the PS4 in the next year, I'd really like for PSN to adapt the Google Circles approach to friends. Being able to sort my friends in to what games I played with them would be great.

I never had a problem note taking with the touch screen in VLR. It's obviously not perfect but I found it manageable enough.

No, there's nothing like in 999.

All right, thanks a lot everyone. I think I've decided not to buy any super fancy stylus like the Wacom one I was talking about earlier, but will probably get something cheap at Cha's suggestion. Like I said, I did feel a bit weird using my fingers to rotate things in the demo, so I'm gonna go with my gut and get a cheap stylus. It sounds like its not a big deal, so I won't spend the same amount of money on a stylus as for the game, but I feel like getting something regardless.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out how good 999 was. I was expecting something around Danganronpa's level of quality, but I came out finding that it was even better. Pretty cool to go from a great game to an excellent one just like that. I felt like making a LTTP thread for 999 after finishing it, but I haven't made a thread yet, and would want to spend a good amount of time on my first, time I don't feel like I have had in the past few weeks since my college term started up.

I am savoring the wait for VLR at the moment though, so maybe I'll have time to compose a VLR thread by the time I finish it. I don't want to just jump in, especially when the wait for Zero Escape 3 will be much longer. I'm not worried about the wait though, I've waited for HL3 for seven years, and I have actually way more faith in Zero Escape 3 releasing than HL3 so whatevs. Even if it shows up on smartphones, I'll be there.

While this sounds great, I can't see it happening anytime soon. I have no faith in Sony handling their different offerings. I'm still waiting for them to fix/change the download list, and I've given up on using the PSN store on consoles. I fully expect to keep waiting for them to change those two things as well.

You simply cannot compare 999 to Danganronpa in terms of quality. They do things similarly, with the death games, they both have puzzles, they both are VNs, but you simply cannot compare. They are both great games that have their own strengths in their own way. It's so hard for me to actually come out and say "I like this series better" because they are both amazing series that are so equal, yet so different.

The wait for a VLR3 announcement is killing me slowly. DR will most likely see more titles coming out, it is a pretty popular series now. I just don't get how VLR didn't appeal to the japanese market, how it seemingly got better received here, rather than there.

Yeah, I want this as well. Then I could group all of the GAFers into one circle and know who not to delete. But at the same time...

...this. Sony makes some damn fine games, but I don't expect them to get a handle on network stuff any time soon.

I've got some bad news for you friend...

3sRm90k.jpg

Don't make me remember it. Aaaargh!

Lunar something something on my Vita. Yosuke is the main character. :)
Miiiiight play Ground Zeroes on my PS4 when I get home. I bought it during the sale and still didn't touch it.

I don't like what I'm reading regarding the aim assist that will come in the new freedom wars patch this week.

I really hope that you can turn it off and that you can't use it in competitive multiplayer.

Edit: (are there other examples of games that have removed the importance of skill in competitive MP?)

This is more of a November issue. but I just preordered GTA V for the PS4 and noticed it has the same release date as Far Cry 4....

November will be brutal

Wednesday is gonna be a pricey day. Minecraft and Vib Ribbon both dropping? Gawd daymn. Glad they're small games, even with my 64gb card..
