Ebola is threatening much of the world’s chocolate supply.
Ivory Coast, the world’s largest producer of cacao, the raw ingredient in M&M’s, Butterfingers and Snickers Bars, has shut down its borders with Liberia and Guinea, putting a major crimp on the workforce needed to pick the beans that end up in chocolate bars and other treats just as the harvest season begins. The West African nation of about 20 million — also known as Côte D’Ivoire — has yet to experience a single case of Ebola, but the outbreak already could raise prices.

I don't like that this map has a "Top 5 Chocolate producers" color in the key, but only two countries are that color.

Top 5 producer, as in they are in the top 5, the other countries are in South America/South East Asia.

Seems like a silly thing to be worried about when people are dying. Not to mention that the outbreak is a quite miniscule portion of the population. I'm hoping the border shutdown doesn't last too long.

Is it possible to pass Ebola via chocolate? Can it survive the manufacturing process?

So the production of chocolate is threatened because less than (using Liberia #s here) 0.1% of the countries population is sick with this?

Holy shit is the media latching onto this for easy stories. It's moronic fear mongering.

Hard to make chocolate when most of your workforce is on the other side of a closed border.

Apparently the hazelnut crop in Turkey (largest producer) is going to be poor because of weather.

A jar of Nutella is going to cost $900.

Now is the time for PB Crisps to make their triumphant return. Make them $5 a bag, I will buy them. $10, even!
