Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

I'm so disappointed.

I nearly bought DriveClub over the weekend but held off. While the game gives me strong PGR vibes—and that excites me—I'm not thrilled about paying $50 for a game that's still missing half its features more than a week after launch.

I also think there may be another shoe to drop.

Evolution is not a big studio, but it made big promises. Cars. Tracks. Weather. Will Evolution be in position to make its DLC deadlines given the "all hands on deck" approach to fixing the server issues?

The PS Plus edition of DriveClub is likely a week away—just a few weeks before the release of ProjectCARS. I'm at the point where I just may wait.

They are bundling Drive club with PS4's for fucks sake.
What a great first impression.

Is the bundle a digital code or disc?

I still cannot fathom how this deal isn't up yet.

Part of me is starting to believe that Sony is doing this intentionally to help drive retail sales.

With any other company, I would be suspicious, but Sony... well, they have trouble with PSN, PS Plus, promotions in their system, way more than they should.

The Grace Chen effect seems to have infiltrated the entire company and now subsidiary studios.

I don't know if this is an appropriate place to ask but is the fact that there are no Japanese or American cars in Driveclub a deal breaker for anyone?

To me no, but I am not a car enthusiast. I would just play for the racing.

However, I imagine that WILL be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

It is really a baffling omission.

Yeah. you're right.

It does make sense given the pedigree.

Such a friggin shame. Sony really needs to get its act together. PSN needs to be totally free of such flaws in 2015.

Im not objectively defending Evo or Sony right now, but Im not reacting like they defecated in my mouth either. The free game will come, but they need to get it working for the people that bought the game first. It sucks, but its far from the worst thing in the world. At least single player is playable now, unlike SimCity.

If I had bought the game and been unable to play it at all, especially a week out, then I be pissed and be asking for a refund.

Not all of us are lifetime PS+ subscribers. My sub expires soon -- each delay directly reduces the amount of time I will have with the PS+ version before I have to pay again (which I was not planning on doing). In what world is this "free" ?

I bit the bullet and purchases the full version, made easier with the ps+ discount.

One of the best purchases i made so far. Its one of the few games my gf asks to play (shocker!), and that is likely thanks to how damn pretty the locations are. It is my favorite thing about the game too. And playing around with the time of day cycle at x60.

I only had limited time online so far one evening, but i know it will be awesome when stable.

I did the same, with some regret while hitting confirm purchase, but I'm completely happy with it.

I wasn't floored until I did this race for the first time.

Yeah the game is a ton of fun and its such a beautiful looking game, i don't care what anyone says ...the game for a racer is by far the best looking racing game but the game play is just so fun to me.

And while this game scored decent at best at the BIG MAINSTREAM review sites like gamespot,IGN,etc...i tend take them as a grain of salt, in fact now days i tend to believe the smaller gaming review sites than any of the bigger review sites. The game is definitely a solid 8 for me and that's not counting all the extra's coming in future addons.

Also someone said this game was a flop, seriously? I mean really? lol Remember there are some peeps doing their usual drive-by damage and those keep bringing up FH2 for what-every reasons, the two games are not even in the same ball park.

I just canit wait for the upcoming weather-addon packs, etc that will add so much more to this game and of course patches that will fine tune this game...its really a great deal for the digital plus sale at 49.99....

The game is well worth its price imho

Is the 49.99 plus sale for a limited time?

The only point you've been able to muster is dumb comparisons and hand waving.

My augments were completely valid. Your cynicism against Sony is through the roof. What you should have done was show your contempt and high horse standards to Microsoft which disrespectfully disregards their customer's needs. You have yet to complain about that, so don't tell I'm "hand waving" when you try to put on your internet "too cool for school, I'm entitled" façade.
I don't even know what the big deal is, maybe it's principle but hasn't the game scored poorly? Why does anyone want a mediocre game so badly.

It's well known I don't like the company. But I don't try to crap on it every chance I get as some sort of hidden agenda. This thread is about the DRIVECLUB delay and somehow people made it into PSN, so.

Wasn't the PSN subscription marketed with DriveClub??? So I can see how it would relate.

You're just so desperately trying to spin the situation in the most comical manner.

It is for me. Though if I ever get to play the PS+ version (not holding my breath) and find it to be superfun, I supposed I might buy it anyway.

We are at Day 7 huh, This gotta be one of the biggest launch disaster of 2014.

Specifically with the PS+ version, I don't think it's that big of a deal. A bunch of other PS+ games hit on time and this is likely to hit in October anyway as a freebie*.

The actual retail product, on the other hand... yes, it's messy and bad.

I guess instead of putting thought into your post, you choose to *try to be "witty" with meaningless single sentences. The situation is *Evolution studios fucked up twice. But fuck-ups happen all the time.

It is a big deal, tons of people are talking about how there no dive club. And it not a freebie cause I have to pay for + to get it.

Can't tell if this is a joke post due to grammar, spelling, etc, but you'll note I wrote "freebie*" with an asterisk.

It was only recently that PS+ started dumping all the freebies* all at once across all consoles at the start of the month. They used to do it week by week.

I don't know why some people are angry at those expressing disappointment. "Shut up, it's only a week", etc.

Retail games have a make-or-break period of time, and it's usually during the first 2-4 week's of a game's release. After that, the sales of most games drop off sharply (relatively speaking) until there's a sale, price drop, or major DLC released. This launch window for games is extremely important for both developers and publishers, because if a launch is botched it can be the difference between good overall lifetime sales of the game or one that just bombs. Very few games, the coveted "evergreen titles" that sell consistently well throughout its lifetime, are relatively rare (most Nintendo titles enjoy being "evergreen", but they're the exception rather than the rule).

The simple truth is, this online screw-up is costing Evolution a LOT. They know exactly how badly botched launches go, and exactly what it means to the bottom line. This isn't about disgruntled forum poster bitching for the sake of bitching, like a lot of people here seem to think. This is actual, real monetary damage to Evolution and they know it.

Keep this in mind the next time you want to chew someone out who's complaining about the botched launch and indefinite PS+ edition delay. They're reacting exactly how the market reacts (that is, a massive drop-off in interest in a title, which in the market translates to abysmal sales), don't blame them for their reactions that are perfectly in line with how the market reacts to any botched launch of a game.

How is sony treating you with its NO Drive Club for PS+ and shitty server issues with games and interface for PS4? Come on both are guilty don't make this a MS problem in a Sony thread. At least we get 1080p i guess.

In a way this reminds me a bit of how Socom was absolutely ruined by the PSN outage back when it released. The game was essentially unplayable at launch and completely fizzled out.

Have they even fixed the server issues for paying customers yet? I would love to play the PS+ version but any interest I have in the game gradually wanes as more and more of the holiday releases hit.

I pay for PS+ discount and cloud saving. I think it's a freebie.
If you are paying for PS+ just to play DC, then you're right. Otherwise I would say it's a freebie.

That doesn't mean I'm cool with waiting for the PS+ edition.

Ok guys, what did I miss?

The DLC is just liveries, car packs, tracks, and events. I don't see any reason that would take up the time of the engineers that are fixing the code.

Yep. Brink PS3 was also super fucked by the outage and never recovered, but your example is far better. Brink sold shitty (and was shitty) in every platform anyway. Socom's launch was fucked and never recovered.

And it doesn't look like servers have been fixed for people owning the full game. Late last week I saw some people had success connecting online, but it was inconsistent and most are still not online. That they're still providing "updating us" on the situation means they're likely not fixed on their end either.

He might mean the weather update, which was supposed to come shortly after launch.

At this point I doubt we'll see it any time this year.

Online still a mess?

No PS Plus Edition yet?

How many more years of development did Evolution need? :P I don't know if I feel more sorry for them or for the people that bought DC. Clearly this has been a troubled project, and these shenanigans have got to be actively hurting word of mouth and evaporating chances of decent future sales. I wonder if Sony is willing to have a single racing developer (Polyphony). Studio Liverpool was killed for less.

I got a review copy, reviewed DriveClub and liked it that much that I then bought the PS Plus Upgrade to support the studio. I think the game is amazing. All these self entitled people who never even bought the game and are still moaning should shut up imo. There is still plenty of value for money in PS Plus with or without the DriveClub PS Plus Edition.

If you want the game that bad you'll buy it, because even without the servers it's awesome.

People don't complain about Comcast. And if they do they're entitled. Man, it must be a parody account. Using Comcast as your posterchild of a company people don't complain about .... like, seriously?

Sadly, I don't know if you're serious.

I'm sure that's a great way to respond to the interest of people actively wanting to play a game, given expectations from the marketing surrounding it, and having paid into a subscription where getting access to the game was among the benefits.

This will go over real well.

They're not self-entitled. Sony entitled them. If anyone should shut up it's the people advising their fellow gamers to buy a broken game.

Ahhhh....I would think that those people don't want to spend full price on a game that still isn't working properly.

I don't need your sympathy, I'm really enjoying the game. I didn't expect the handling model would be so solid and the actual driving so fun. The game is super addictive.

I was able to have a few solid nights of online, so it is getting better.

I do understand the frustration and outrage, but I don't care for the "fire them all, close the studio, burn their fucking houses down, I want everything for free now" type posts on fb and youtube.

They haven't been able to resolve their server issues. I am quite interested in this from a software architecture perspective. I would have initial assumed they didn't have enough servers up, but you figure they would have been able to resolve that issue within 24 hours. This must be a fundamental issue with the way the online component has been designed, or a particular aspect of it, which is only showing its ugly head in production.

I'm turning on my Ps4 to check if I can finally, for the first time, access the servers.

Nope.

Edit: yes! Connection restored! First time I've seen that message.

Edit 2: managed to race once. Matchmaking failed after that and got disconnected. Challenges no longer available. Network error again (could not communicate with servers).

I quit. Seriously. No time for this bullshit.

Rushy tweeted that the coding had a bug in it.

That should be how Sony advertise it now. DriveClub "It's getting better". LOL.

Online still a mess?

No PS Plus Edition yet?

No plus edition yet because online is still a mess.

The only logical explanation is sony want to make sure the plus edition gives the best impression possible(to encourage people to pay for the upgrade), and that cant happen until the online is sorted out, since its such a big part of the game and marketing behind it since the reveal.

Top Bottom
