Zelda's Roll Canceled Pivot Grab has insane range.

Are a bunch of similar types of things that have been popping up (I've noticed dash attack canceled up smashes too) unintentional glitches or what?
The new pivot mechanics seem deliberate. DACUS was in Brawl too and they didn't remove it so that's probably intentional as well.

All of these things are stuff they almost certainly saw in testing so there's no reason to believe they're glitches.

Ok, I've just seen weird momentum stuff in the early days/during the Japanese release, so I've been a bit curious. I know DACUS was in Brawl but wasn't sure if they brought it back or what.

At the least, the pivot mechanics seem interesting.

The format of the Asia of the CPT is nutty. Whoever finishes 2nd in the round robin is going to have one hell of a mountain to climb.

Very impressed with how Iron Galaxy and MS in general are handling KI. Just occurred to me that you can probably get 2 years of content for that game for a few bucks more than a new release, and they're really packing in the content too.

On top of that, it seems like finding set ups to run the game hasn't been too disruptive either.

The TJ Combo theme has been on loop since the announce trailer, so good.

I might just play it because of the dinosaur in it.

ft3 round robin (instead of last year's format of ft5 round robin)

top 2 placers will play a ft7 match. since only one person will qualify from this event, the person who places second after the round robin has to win two sets and not one set of ft7 in order to win cpt asia finals.

yikes

who's there though?

Pivot grabs extending grab range has been a thing since Brawl and is also one of the tips in game for Smash 4.

It's possible they didn't know about pivoting and then roll canceling to extend the grab range even further.

I know where you are. Vanquish and Dark Souls bored me. I acknowledge them both as good games. Vanquish is the peak of its genre. But I just wanted both to end. Meanwhile, I have a good 40 hours in Smash already. I played the demo for 20, using only Megaman. I feel like only fighting games interest me any more, but I want to experience great stuff like Bayonetta 2. I just want that to be a part of my gaming history.

I've pretty much given up on video games. I don't play my Wii U at all outside a little Link to the Past for like 15 minutes at a time and I sold my PS3 and 360 a long time ago. I've swapped full-time to Magic: The Gathering. It feeds that need to solve a puzzle that I had from being an MVC3 theory fighter and it's a lot like when I used to sit in training mode for hours straight.

Magic is a game that's less based on actual skill in the game than say, fighting games, but it rewards people that can think about how the game works a lot more than video games do. It's perfect for someone like me and I've already won a pretty good amount of money playing at local and regional-level tournaments. Hopefully I can break into some of the majors starting next month since there's one in my area.

The bad things about MTG are that it's expensive as fuck and the community is garbage compared to the FGC and I miss it a lot.

lol

I might have mis-worded that. I meant that the emphasis is on thinking about the game, since that's basically all that you do to win. There's no physical reactions like in Fighting Games. You just sit there for minutes before taking any action. There's no pressure situations like, what to do on wakeup or you're getting mixed up in the corner.

Like, I really suck at fighting games because I lose track of things in the middle of the match. That doesn't happen in card games. Pretty much only persona 4 arena did I feel like I had a good understanding of the flow of the game.

GB was talking about theory vs. practice. He is better at the former. Fighting games accentuate the latter. MtG accentuates the former. I think he is right on with that statement. I am glad you still come by and post, GB!

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition on PS3 is currently $13.99 (or $9.79 with PS+) as a part of the PSN Ultimate Edition sale.

Fighting games have a "Your reactions must be X good to play competitively" bar that's going to exclude a lot of people by itself. It's one of the reasons growing the scene is really difficult.

Well, video games are expensive as fuck so we could be even on that.

But I feel I'd rather get over the execution requirements of a fighting game than deal with a shitty community.

M:TG is waaaaaaaaaaaay more expensive than a fighting game ever would be, even after equipment and travel costs.

They literally complain about people jumping out of their chair when they just won a chance to play for 40,000 dollars being rude to the guy they beat.

Now think of all the things that fighting game players do when they just win any random match. Have you ever heard someone throw a fit because Justin Wong rolling on the floor after winning EVO was disrespectful to his opponent and it might make them feel a little sad?

Videogames not that expensive though- I mean, as a marvel player, I needed a 360, a stick, and a copy of the game, but even 500 bucks or whatever is spread out over 3-4 years, so it costs what- 10 bucks a month to play the game? Pretty cheap, IMO.

I would rather be completely incompetent at a game than have to deal with a shitty community. Any day of the week.

It is sad when a game you love has a shitty community though, because you're always reminded of it.

The MTG community is super sedate and uptight. I think we all spend so much money playing that we have a false sense of respectability for a cheesy card game. There's no stand up in your seat moments like watching EVO. There's no sidebets.

I still watch all the fighting game tournaments because the raw emotion level and sense of community is so much higher. Maybe once I get a PS4 and Guilty Gear I'll start posting here more but until then the only fighting game I play is super casual TvC with my roommate.

Of course it also depends on at what level you play and your local scene. If I don't do any competitive events in MTG and just do kitchen table drafts with friends and the odd prerelease or FNM draft at the local game store my costs are going to be way lower than the person who dumps $100 for playsets of fetches and travels to Grand Prix events out of pocket. Plus the number of people with... interesting personalities I interact with are much lower.
