You did read the bit in the OP saying that US players get their demo codes by signing up to the pokemon.com newsletter and since these are probably sent out after the 20th nobody has any US keys yet.
goddamn, I thought the Demo was already out for Club Nintendo US... thanks for the info!

You did read the part of the Nintendo Life article where they explained the following:

I never said I got the code, just that I was able to participate because I was locked out before
Ha looks like that gengar isn't even being distributed by any retail chain over here, it's through some weird nintendo tour. Other eu countries get way better distribution methods too ugh.

So I think I'm finished with the demo. It's more of a mind numbing grind than anything else to unlock all the stuff to transfer to ORAS.
After initially completing the mission to catch Glalie, Stephen gives you all 3 fully evolved starters with their respective Mega stones attached and you basically do random missions that Stephen gives you and the game ends. You repeat the process up to 10 times to get all the rewards.
The missions consist of:
Finding a particular Pokemon in shaking grass.
Beating all the trainers on the island.
Finding a lost child.
At the 5th and 10th replay, the mission changes to beating a single trainer who has stronger Pokemon than you.
The rewards consist of:
Glalie (with Glalite attached)
Poke Balls
Heal Balls
5 Heart Scales
After the 10th replay, Stephen says "I've lost count how many times we've encountered each other" (or something along those lines) which indicates you can no longer get any rewards as far as I can see. I attempted to do a few more replays after getting these messages but nothing substantial happened in Mossdeep City or in the Missions.

Did that detail about playing on consecutive days to unlock more stuff come to anything?
It's more that they would think that you play the demo over 10 days, not rush it all in two hours like I did

Curious. Trying SSID spoofing it seems some of the NintendoSpotPassX (where is X is an integer*) SSIDs do detect the Nintendo zone (including X=5, which worked for Charizard) but do not make an attempt to connect to the Internet (not sure why that is). As a result they will not work. Wonder if it looks for a MAC Address too or is doing some trickery like really connecting to a second access point that has a silent SSID.
*-It seems the utterly useless X=1 and X=2 work but no Pokemon info (in fact the viewer here is hilariously out of date as in last updated 1.5 years ago).

The operations guide contains some interesting bits of info.
You can only send things to the full version once a day and Pokemon Link is a special option in the title menu of the full version (appears below online competition).
Apparently the save can't be deleted by the Up+X+B wipe works if the save is corrupted.

Seems like the SQL server gave up.
