Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 13-19 | The World Ends Ryu

I don't see it as a big deal either being in community.

Tournament/Events get their own threads in Gaming when they happen. Just stick a link in the OP of those pages to go to the FG Community thread if you enjoyed your stay.
We just had a weekend with 5+ major events going on. Community is if you want a clubhouse- this isn't that. Having threads for NLBC/WNF/every smaller stream/event isn't feasible, and you want visibility. You also need it to be current.

This right here.

The lag is still there it's just different. It's hard to describe but in no way did I feel this patch was a net improvement for the game in terms of netcode.

For folks wanting to know exactly what is up with the USF4 PC version now:

1) There is now far less Waiting For Opponents message spam and stutter in general.
2) However, the "fix" for this was to simply make it harder for those messages to pop up - i.e. they made the game more willing to lag before it throws a red flag and tries to sort out the connection.
3) When searching for lobbies, the game will freeze several times.

There has been no netcode fix. There has been a number modified in the netcode to make the game happier about the lag. And there are now new issues to make online on PC even more unpleasent than it was pre-patch - issues that were in the PC Beta and widely reported.

It's good to know that capcom still can't get the code right or even back to a playable level. They need that aussie dude that snk hired for kof steam edition

Fuck man.

Probably going to be uninstalling USF4 in the near future. I am so over SF4 now.

7 years we have been dealing with this game and its shit netcode, shit graphics and shit input detection. Capcom doesn't deserve a single extra penny for their efforts on SF4.

hehe

I'm getting pretty tired myself of the drops. Catching runaway players safely is hell in lag. Also I swear it does something to my inputs and I get mad SRKs when i don't want them.

If I can't play USF4 properly on PC I'm not going to wait any longer for Capcom to un-fuck it. Right now I'm just playing P4U2 and Skullgirls because their netcode actually works.

Make a combo thread for that weekend then that combines all 5 in those situations? What visibility is there in that situation? There are new posts in the FGW thread, who knows if a smaller event is going on and being posted about, or just people talking about Ryu's belt if you are not a regular.

I am talking threads for majors/special events. Not for every weekly/ultra chen.

Wasted 2 hours trying out the USF4 netcode patch, now wish I had did or played something else instead. Wasn't even worth streaming like I planned. Made me felt like I might as well just play it on PS3 at times tbh.

How it went from being the best version online wise on GFWL to possibly the worst version online with the switch to steamworks I'll never know.

Posting these here because I thought the conversation going on in the new OT rules thread may or may not impact the future of FGW in Gaming side:

Anyway, are there any big events this week?

Depending on what they view as chat rooms, I think FGW might be in that group too. But the chats here pretty frequently discuss broad fighting game topics as well as specific happenings with games. Similar and different in a lot of ways to those threads, but I feel the discussion is more focused topically. Tournament threads might be at risk, except like EVO.

The end is nigh.

Well, the game has a pretty liberal input buffer and what it's looking for to SRK is [any forward], [any down], [any forward]. You can literally do 360's and just about anything ever and you get a DP. Can't be overridden, so there's a period after walking forward where you just can't throw fireballs because they get interpreted as DPs and send your character skyhigh. Add a bit of lag and...

Seeing Eita get fucked over by input shortcuts at Thaiger Uppercut and the commentary not recognizing the telltale signs was painful.

If I had a game I like, I wouldn't be playing SF4.

I'm just hoping 98UM isn't messed up, gets enough players, and comes out on time. About as likely as me enjoying an anime game.

1 vs 1 endless play in SF4 is good as long as you get someone you have a decent or better connection with, so I don't consider it unplayable. I just consider lobbies unplayable.

I wish FG threads were monthly instead of weekly personally.

There's like a million good or great games out there? How can you not find a single one you like a lot? O_o

1) I gave up my console- so no VF. Not like anyone played it on PSN anymore

2) My options on PC are SF4- which is ok, KOFXIII and Skullgirls, which are too combo-heavy for my taste, and MKIX/Injustice- which are unplayable online so no point.

KOF98UM I'm looking forward too though next month.

There's always ggpo at least

You don't have to play 13 all that combo-heavy. Playground combos into super are okay enough unless you want to go beat Reynald or Mr.KOF or something. Hell, some simple Kim HD is like light hangetsuzan [lk flash kick xx heavy hange]x2, lk flash kick xx lk hange, neomax. Karate goes a long way with button button button, dp break ex super. Iori is the point and just plays a 98/SF-esque short combo neutral game. confirm=>rekkas, done. Can't be that much worse than VF5FS combos.

Besides which, GGPO exists and it has 98. And 3S. And ST. And SamSho VS and who knows what else.

EDIT: Also, GGXX #Reload is on Steam for like 10 bucks. Nice game, decent online.

How many points was third place at TFC? Smug's at 114 and is guaranteed the 128 points from first place at NLBC.

64, so that would give him 306. He's still no where close to Ricky and Gamerbee who are both tied at 5th with 442 each. But if he went to that Connecticut tournament and won it he would be within reach with 434. Which may not matter though as that might be the last ranking event in the United States.

Also a possibility that Twitch might fly out Smug to Dreamhack.

3rd place gets 64 points but it's still not enough. right now, you need at least 500 points to get a spot in the capcom cup. the only way for him to qualify is through dreamhack winter.

So how many people here actually do not like long sets? I despise them myself, but I know that friends like them so I gut it out. This is also the reason so many of you see me switch characters so often when we play; it's to keep myself from getting bored.

Looking at the current standings now. Gamerbee will automatically gain more points just by showing up at the Asia Finals. Knuckledu and Kbrad can pass Ricky if either of them wins that Connecticut tournament and Fuudo just never seemed to care and their is nothing left for him to enter from the looks of it. So there you go, that Connecticut tournament will be WAY MORE IMPORTANT than most people think it is if at least Kbrad and Knuckledu shows up. Or if all 3 show up that would be great.

I think the only time I get bored during long sets is if it's against someone I know I can beat constantly, otherwise I like the challenge. The only game I can think of where long sets get boring for me is Smash regardless if they're good or not though. 1v1 doesn't appeal to me much in that game because it's so slow.

hey rice-eater, have you seen this r/kappa thread yet? this person did a very in-depth analysis on the current standings of cpt (much better than mine). take a look if you haven't.

i don't like them at all. 10 games is probably the max i can give before i start getting distracted and not caring.

P.S. This assumes that none of the players above will get permission from the Ministry of Magic to use a time turner and attend both ranking tournaments this weekend.

P.P.S Pretty sure they were all destroyed in the 5th book anyway. Time turners are out.

lmao

I like long sets I could play 1k games straight if my back didn't start hurting.

I hate waiting for my turn more than anything. It throws off my rhythm

I would think after going to the dentist every week for 2 months I would be over my phobia of it by now :l bleeh. Thankfully it's nothing major

I, too, generally like long sets, particularly as a person that generally plays more against the player than the character. It doesn't help that I don't often play against a wide variety of players and characters, so I'm often learning the character matchup at the same time I'm downloading the opponent. Playing in tournaments drives me nuts with its FT 1 or 2 in early rounds, particularly if they were single elim.

I love playing in tournaments. I am not a fan of playing the same person a bunch of times, so the format is perfect. It's why I never bother with Player Matches online and always go Ranked, unless I'm playing a friend.
